Great mesh unit but initial setup problem

I had a frustrating setup issue. I’d prefer to give a 4.5 rating but Google’s phone support was stellar so I rated the Nest Wifi router a 5. The wifi setup did not work initially. I unplugged my cable modem and router to try and fix the issue but after an hour of trying and repeating the setup steps multiple times, I used the Google app to request a phone call for help. I received a call back within 5 minutes. The tech was patient and had me do a “hard reset” on the Nest router base unit via the small button on the bottom of the base unit that you can push with a pencil. This reset took about 6 minutes to process and after that I could find the router with my phone and the setup worked. The tech said the problem was probably a IP conflict. The tech also stayed on the line to ensure the Point units connected ok (they did). After this initial setup issue, the rest was easy. I played with the placement of my furthest Point unit and now have consistent 100 Mbps (speed we pay for) throughout three floors in all rooms (after one week of usage). I had about 10-20 Mbps in the furthest rooms before this with my AirPort Extreme Router so switching to the mesh unit has been good for me.

I have been trying to get a connection for my parents when they come to my home with their rv. I have a brick home and my main router is closer to the opposite side of the house. I initially bought a signal booster and tested in their rv and also inside my home adjacent to their rv. The signal wouldn't get strong enough to do anything online. I came across these when I was looking into the new Pixel 5 and saw the great reviews and got a great deal for Black Friday. I purchased 3, which is well over the amount of square footage needed, but wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any signal interruptions. I plugged one into the router and placed one closer to the side of the house where the rv is parked and one in the rv, they were very simple to set up, which I think having the Pixel phone helps with that. I am so amazed with these things! The internet signal is even better than before with the regular router when hooked up close to it. It says the signal strength is great, which I'm not sure I've ever had a great signal. It was a great investment for sure!

    Nice setup

Let me first start with my incoming internet speed. I have Comcast Xfinity Extreme Pro internet (600 Mbps down / 10 Mbps up). I switched from Xfinity cable to Youtube TV recently because I live in Richmond, VA (the best beer city in the world) and the only cable/internet option for my area of Richmond is Comcast and they do not carry the ACC Network. I have never rented Comcast equipment, so I packed up my Tivo Roamio and TV minis and am now watching TV through Apple TVs and Rokus. My house is a 3000 sf - 2 story colonial with a 2.5 car garage. I was running a Netgear R7800 (X4S) hidden in a cabinet below my wall mounted TV and my speeds at the far corners of the house were in the low teens and I was getting around 500 Mbps in the middle of the family room 5' from the router. I think having the X4S in a cabinet for years probably degraded its performance, but it is not something you want out in the open in the family room, which is where my cable enters the house through the most direct route and my modem is set. My need for fast internet at all corners of the house had me buy and compare the 2 mesh systems that received the most favorable user reviews - Google Nest WiFi and Eero Pro 3 Pack. The Google Nest WiFi test results and my thoughts on set up and user experience… I had the Nest setup for 3 days and setup through the Google Home app was simple, yet I was not a big fan of the user interface with the Google Home app. I would appreciate a stand-alone app for the Nest WiFi system to more easily track system performance, settings, and device management. That being said I’ll share the most important information - performance. My incoming speeds to the main router were around 700 Mbps down and 18 up on average. I set the main router in the first floor family room on the cabinet below the wall-mounted TV (slightly off center for the house layout), one point router in my upstairs office (almost directly above the main router), and the other point router in the bonus room (down the hall above the garage). Speeds - Family room 5’ from main router (575 Mbps down 16 Mbps up), Master bedroom far corner of the house upstairs (475 Mbps down 15 Mbps up), Office upstairs slightly off middle of the house (334 Mbps 14 Mbps up), Bedroom upstairs on the other side of middle of the house (232 Mbps down 14 Mbps up), Bonus room above garage at the far end of the house (125 Mbps down 14 Mbps up), Garage (119 Mbps down 14 Mbps up). That was all good performance relative to the poor speeds I was getting at the far corners of the house from the X4S. The Eero Pro 3 Pack test results and my thoughts on set up and user experience… I’ve had the Eero Pro 3 pack set up for 2 days and am returning the Google Nest WiFi. Eero setup is a snap through the app and was done in 10 minutes. The app is straightforward and slick and you can easily see all of the devices connected to each pro router. I set up all of my Eero pros is the same spots I set up the Nest main and point routers. I like that you can easily turn off the LED lights on the routers so they are even more incognito. As with the Nest, my incoming speeds to the main router were around 700 Mbps down and 18 up on average. Now for the important part… Speeds -Family room 5’ from main router (601 Mbps down 18 Mbps up), Master bedroom far corner of the house upstairs (595 Mbps down 18 Mbps up), Office upstairs slightly off middle of the house (498 Mbps 17 Mbps up), Bedroom upstairs on the other side of middle of the house (378 Mbps down 17 Mbps up), Bonus room above garage at the far end of the house (334 Mbps down 16 Mbps up), Garage (278 Mbps down 16 Mbps up). I love the aesthetics of the Eero Pro routers and the Nest are also nice. I chose to keep the Eero Pro 3 Pack and return the Nest WiFi because of the performance and ease of use of the Eero app. I know the system is more expensive, but for me the difference is worth it to get consistent speeds at points farthest from the modem. One other note. If you have any devices that can only connect to 2.4 ghz… I suggest renaming your current router SSID and setting the password to whatever you want to use for the Eero or Nest and connecting those to your 2.4 ghz band before setting up your new mesh system. That’s what I had to do for my garage door opener with MyQ and my LG washing machine and dryer. They are successfully connected to my Eero network now. Hope this review helps.

The Google Nest WiFi system has been rock-solid and super fast providing a stable and expansive connection for my 2000 sq foot home. However, getting it set up on the Google Home app was less than stellar. The main issue I had was that I kept on repeatedly getting a "Cannot connect to WiFi" message within the Google Home app. It would initially find the router, then start the set up process only to fail during set up probably at least 6-7 times. After putting it away after a bit of frustration and then trying again a few days later, it magically worked. There may have been an update to the Google Home app during that time period, but I'm not sure. Once the router was set up, setting up the included access point was a breeze. Nothing weird about that and it took maybe just a couple minutes. Anyhow, once it was finally set up, it has been a champ. Great coverage, very stable. Hopefully you don't encounter the set up woes that I had but it should be solid once it's all up and running.

What can I say about the Google Nest AC2200? The are absolutely amazing! I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this product! The setup was simple and easy. In a three-story home, my internet is extremely fast, and reliable. Google Nest has truly made a difference in my home! They are so nice and sleek. Blends right in with my décor and I am sure it would with yours too. I highly recommend this product to anyone.

Works Great - Exactly What I Was Looking For!

I purchased this a few days ago and so far it is proving to be an excellent choice. Previously I was using the combination modem/Wi-Fi/router device provided by my internet provider, and while the WiFi coverage was OK, it did not completely cover the 2,200 SF in our single-story house. For example, I was unable to get our smart garage door opener online because the Wi-Fi signal strength was inadequate that far away from the modem. Set up was super easy – from box to up and running in less than 15 minutes. Honestly, the hardest part was finding an outlet to accommodate the plug for the access point (Note: the plugs are round, which causes them to interfere with adjacent outlets, so you may need to reconfigure some of the items to make room for them). I am not particularly technical when it comes to networking, but the set-up was a breeze. I logged into my old router and turned off the Wi-Fi. During the set-up of the Google Wi-Fi I used the same SSID and passcode as I had previously. This saved me from having to rejoin all the various devices around the house to a new network. And that is pretty much all there was to setting it up. I have great coverage all around the house and like the looks of the hardware. This system does exactly what I want it to do.

Best of breed for WiFi networks

I added these to my existing Google WiFi network. The router extended the range of coverage to my existing access points nearly quadrupling the speed of my broadband at each one. They all clocked around 400 mbps which is my max service with Spectrum. This is important to me since I have 36 wifi devices in my home. Best of all, Google support tech walked me through the entire process of adding these to my network. I like the idea that the one wifi point included in this two pack is also a Google assistant. To me, this is the gold standard of wifi networking.

The Google Nest setup is by far the best router I have ever had. I have used this for gaming and also mobile devices and the speeds and reliability shred everything I have previously used. I decommissioned a gaming router when installing the Nest 2 pack and my speeds are so much faster and no more spotty connections! I highly recommend Nest!

Great Wifi Coverage with Smart Features

Coming from a basic Netgear modem/wifi router, initial impression of the Nest Wifi is leagues above. I have a one story brick ranch, about 1600sf. The router and one point give me fast speeds at all ends of my home. I saved one add on point for my detached garage in the near future. Setup was quick with the Google Home App. What took the longest was switching all of my current smart devices over to my new network. I like the features of the google wifi app that lets you control your wifi and connected devices, even while away from home. The built in speakers of the addon points are also pretty handy.

Wow easy setup like less than 20 mins. App enabled setup the second mess waypoint is awesome. Doubles as a speaker and very easy to use and talk to. If you have a larger multi floor home I would recommend adding more access points. Speed test and home coverage is amazing. And I have a good router that I use. No wifi 6 but with such good coverage no need. Sound quality from the spear is good the mic's can pick up in alomost any background. Now the bad. Requires a Google to use most features just like apple ecosystem they want you to get into the android ecosystem. If you are in need to upgrade your homes wifi this is definitely a highly recommended system. The best part it is expandable. With many functions built in. Also works as a hub which isn't disclosed but found to work. While testing.

Purchased this today due to my FIOS wifi just isn't making it with my house set up and 10+ things on wifi... Unboxed the router and point, simple mess set up, connect to the Fios router and use app on phone, done in 10 minutes. Wifi was around 55-60 Mbps on Fios, now whole house coverage at 300mbps to 452 +on PC's and ipads and phones...huge difference and still have the fios wifi for some things like TV etc. Worth every cent due to slowness etc in past.

Can now listen to Internet radio in my garage buffering free. Whole house Wifi now. Super easy setup. Was running in only a few minutes. Was a bit of a struggle moving a couple of my Wifi things over to the new network but that wasn't Google Nest issue. Wish I had bought this sooner

Several months ago, I bought a OnHub WiFi router but have been disappointed with the results (freezing/drop issues). Although hesitate to purchase another Google router, I decided to purchase the Google Nest WiFi AC2200 Mesh System. I am very pleased with the results. Easy to setup, fast speeds, and no freezing/drop issues (so far). Definitely would recommend and buy again!

Lasted 27 months until hardware failure of the base station. Decent connection but was never outstanding. Access point would occasionally disconnect and require manual restart. Not the worst investment but expected more.

Hello Jory, thanks for sharing your feedback with us about the Nest Wifi, and we’re sorry to learn it has not exceeded your expectations.

A range issue or wireless interference can affect the performance of your Nest Wifi. We suggest checking the placements of your Wi-Fi router and point, which are vital to have reliable Wi-Fi throughout your home. As a general rule, points work best when they’re no more than two rooms away from one another, where they can see each other with a clear line of sight. Barriers like heavy furniture and walls made of thick concrete or brick can affect Wi-Fi performance. You can also try the following steps that may help:
      - Move the connected device closer to your Wifi router or point.
      - Try to place it in an elevated position like on a shelf.
      - Repositioning the points to avoid obstructions like walls, doors, and aquarium.
      - Make sure all unused devices are off and not draining bandwidth with large downloads.
      - Check for possible sources of interference such as microwave ovens, refrigerators or other equipment.
      - Run a mesh test to confirm placement of your Wifi points.
