It's overkill if you're just extending your home lan, but it's built like a tank and is very easy to install and manage. It works right out of the box, but if you want, you can dig around inside it and mirror ports, section off a VLAN, or other simple switch management tasks.

Nice Price for a Managed Ethernet Switch

I bought this unit to replace a Netgear GS608 switch which failed (a bit early I thought). The price was right and they threw in management capabilities in the bargain. Easy to plug and play, the switch offers some basic features via the included management utility. I could only wish that the utility had a feature where one could input the IP addresses of switches placed on the other side of a router.

For the price, you get a minimally managed switch that works great. This was to be a direct replacement of an 8-port TP-Link that wasn't cutting it, or at least didn't appear to be. Regardless, I'm pleased with the results and can't beat the price, especially since it was on sale. Basic installation was "plug it in and move the cables". Configuring the management was a bit of work since I had to find it in the DHCP server first. You want a label maker as well to mark your ports and the device's IP address. Your network is getting complex, don't memorize that which you don't need to and ease your troubleshooting later!

Our MacMini server and its Ethernet switch needed upgrading. Our in-house IT guy swapped in this switch and the network was simply unaffected. Easy, nice.

This a very nice unit to get you more ports where you need them. I put one behind the big screen to include the satellite receiver, an Arlo camera receiver and an extra wireless router, all from one LAN wire. The overall speed of the traffic was down a little but that is to be expected.

This works great as expected. All of my ethernet cables are in the attic. This thing is toughing it out in a South Texas Attic. As of this post, its 103 outside and the switch is still working.
I have 1gbps internet and it's not a bottleneck on the network. If you have faster than 1gbps then you should get the 2.5gb ports.

This is an excellent switch. I am just starting my journey into the home networking world and needed a switch to manage my network, This switch met my needs by providing ports I needed for the 3 VLANs I wanted to create in my home. 1 VLAN is for media devices, 1 VLAN for the Guest network and 1 VLAN for my private network. This is an excellent switch with an intuitive interface to manage VLANs.

These seem to go on sale for almost half their MSRP fairly often, and for ~$40 I think these switches are a great bargain for the managed features they bring vs an unmanaged switch. It's easy to setup multiple VLANs with this switch, and the statistics that the web UI provides is helpful at times for tracking down bandwidth hogs.
