    Easy Set Up!!

After struggling with another brand, I gave up and decided to try these. I LOVE them...setting up was quick and easy - no problem linking cameras to base station - magnetic mounting made for easy placement and adjustment. Nighttime picture quality is just fair...but good daytime. No adjustment for sensitivity of motion detection, so it tends to alert more than necessary - but would rather more than less. Cellphone app is easy and intuitive. Easy to save video clips or photos you want to keep. Video quality is ok, no adjustments for quality, but it does the job. One tip for purchasers - even though it comes with batteries - BUY REPLACEMENTS NOW...battery life depleted quickly to 10% - one within 3 hours, one within 8 hours. I'm thinking the batteries were just old. At least I hope so! Overall I am perfectly happy and would recommend.

Arlo 3 camera pack is my security solution!!!

I have been wanting to install security system for a very long time now and when I got the opportunity to try Arlo wire free 3 camera set I got very excited. The biggest put off for me was always how am I going to get power and data cables to opposite corners of my house. Setup of Arlo cameras is very easy. Everything is wireless. Don't need any cables. Pop-in four batteries (that are included) into each camera, find a decent spot for magnetic mount, one tiny screw and the camera is ready to go. Plug-in the base unit into router, download a free Arlo app, create new account by adding the base station 1st and then add one camera at a time to your system by by pressing a sync button on the base and then on camera. Arlo cameras pack lots of features: - Of coarse the most important feature to me is that its wire free for ease of installation. - HD quality sharp 720p video recording and live view. - It's weatherproof and can be used inside as well as outside. - It has free 7 day cloud recording with options to upgrade. - It has night vision and records even in full darkness. - Free Arlo app with smart alerts that can be pushed and emailed also - Wide angle lens that has 110deg field of view - Upgradable up to 5 cameras on one base station Although Arlo system met my expectations I wish it would be a little bit faster detecting motion and beginning to record. Sometimes if someone walks too fast the camera catches only the the final seconds before the person is out of sight. I use the cameras mostly to be able to check on my house while away in real time. It did detect much better when I changed motion detection to 100% and video quality to best quality. Although now I'm worried of battery life issue but it is still better then drilling holes thru the siding of the house and trying to wire power to the cameras. So far batteries perform great. Cameras took hundreds of videos while I was setting them up and moving them around and batteries are staying at almost full charge. Sometimes there are lots of videos if neighbors kids are playing outside that is why I love the Armed/Disarmed modes since on a basic account it only records 1Gb of videos maximum and then you are required to delete them yourself before any more videos can be recorded. I've set up a schedule for cameras and now don't have to worry about running out of space. Throughout my test base station has stayed connected to Internet and cameras worked flawlessly. They have pretty strong antennas to be able to send signal to the opposite side of the house from where the base station is situated. I know how very difficult it is to part yourself from so much money but if security cameras are needed Arlo camera set is a very easy system to install and operate. I would definitely recommend this product to my friends and family. I received this product free of charge from Netgear First Look Review Program for my unbiased usability and performance review.

    Pros/Cons of Arlo Security

I purchased 10 Arlo cameras in total and they have fortified my home with an acceptable cost effective solution to video wireless security. I plan to max out my cloud subscription and technological threshold to 15 cameras. You get free cloud based recording service for up to 5 cameras but if you go over that you will need a 15 camera max Elite subscription for $149+tax ($162) per year. Still far less than a monitoring company might charge you. Since 5 cameras are free I thought I would get smart and just set up more email accounts to circumvent the charge but...Arlo figured this out and made it impossible due to location and personal information required to set up a base, and you would need mutiple wifi routers with unique SSIDs and ip addresses. Too much hassle. Arlo you won. Pros: No wires at the camera point. Arlo mounts by various metallic hub and fixed-post methods. The cameras are held on by an internal strong magnet. You mount the included 2" metallic dome or hub and "stick on" the camera to this hub by magnetic force. The screws and anchors come with the dome. You can buy extra domes, post mounts and table top pedestals so you can easily move the cameras around from location to location because a tug on the camera releases it. It's a magnet. You should buy external skins made of neoprene if you are mounting outdoors or want to change the camera's only color - pearl white. There is a rainbow of skin colors available through 3rd parties. The base units look like a router and come in the same white which I find pleasing. The required base units max out at 5 cameras per base and I have 3 of them. Boxed sets come with a base and warning! The cameras are held in the packaging by a very tight hiddenplastic screw under the camera which you could damage if you tried to pry the camera from the packaging. Base units require to be wired to your primary Internet router by the supplied network Ethernet cable. If you need longer cable to reach your router you will have to buy seperately. The base units are powered by wall wart plug. I had to buy a wide power strip to handle 3 of these side by side. The cameras must be near the base to initially prepare them wirelessly but don't get too close! After 10 cameras I found 4 ft away is optimal. Too close didn't work. After you establish the camera to base link you can go as far as your signal will permit. The phone app that controls the entire system and guides you through setting up the base and cameras, one by one is a free app or you can log in by web browser. It was brilliantly done and is easy to use. Be advised: You cannot first-time configure your base system remotely, that is, register the router once it's installed from somewhere else. I flew 600 miles away only to learn this. I thought I could register and configure the base remotety but you must be on the same wifi connect point. The app must be wirelessly connected to the base for setup. After an intuitive setup session my cameras were online, my bases connected, and I could remotely watch my cameras, review recorded motion detection, turn various modes on and off, adjust sensivity, length of recordings up to the max of 2 minutes, from anywhere! The cameras deliver crisp HD in color during the day and black and white in low light using Infrared night vision, which is amazing working in about the same area a small LED flashlight would illuminate or under bright moonlight you get very distant vision. Shooting in HD burns more power as does adjusting the motion sensitivity. There are 3 settings for resolution, battery saver (low resolution), balanced (I use this average setting and I'm happy with the results but at this level you can't read a license plate in your driveway. 5" lettering begins to blur at about 10 feet during the day, and there's 720 Hi definition which they warn effects battery life. Arlo has an acceptable depth of field and angle of view to cover almost all situations. Cons: Arlo's motion sensitivity to objects approaching straight towards the camera is poor. The more angled an object moves as in diagonal to the camera, the faster it detects it. Overall the camera are slow to wake up and start filming an event. Arlo is a late riser. And a heavy sleeper. It handles brightly backlit subjects poorly. Often showing the person as a shadow if the light is bright behind them. Example coming through a front door with the light of day behind them into a darker room you won't see face. I have 10 cameras and the most I can live stream on demand is 2 cameras before the app starts to freeze up. To circumvent this I view a camera live then place the camera on pause then watch another camera live and so on. I have a 60 Mbps connection speed and use an iPhone to watch and control Arlo with cell data or wifi and have no trouble. It takes 4 uncommon sized lithium batteries (CR123 3 volt) to power a camera. These are not your basic C-D-A-AA or AAA size and a 12 pack (3 refills-per camera) will run you about $18, or so. 15 cameras refilled with new batteries every month that's about $270 a year wiith my current usage. Arlo advises do NOT use rechargeable batteries. This is the primary design flaw that dropped my score to 4 stars. If Arlo were to sell Arlo branded rechargeables that met their standards and quality control I would say this is a 5 star product. My two cameras with the most detected motion and have night vision turned on have lost 1/3rd of their power after 3 weeks. The cameras have no use to a thief as they are useless after the are taken out of range of the base signal and would identify their new base location if reconnected elsewhere. Each base and camera have a serial number. I took photos of this info and stored it. However this won't stop some kid from doing it to be stupid and stealing your cam anyway and it will set you back $160 per camera. This is why multi cameras are important, and placement out of easy reach is best. The bandwidth issue. Don't expect to view or record 10 cameras simultaneously / casino style with the average setup.

This is a great product. I chose this product after my home was burglarized because the design of my home makes it very difficult to install wired-cameras and connect them to a base without extensive effort and additional costs. My first impression of the system was that it was of high quality, because the design was aesthetically attractive and the fit and finish of parts were very fine, except for the rubberized material where the cameras connect to the magnetic base. It started to peal and rub off after very little use, but the damage will be hidden behind the cameras once they are attached to the base. The difficult part of installing the cameras was locating and positioning them in a spot that would make full use of the cameras' wide viewing area to cover every point of entry into the home. It would have been nice if Netgear had given buyers better guidance on where best to position the cameras. Another complaint that I have is the use of special batteries for the cameras instead of your normal A/AA batteries that can be found in almost every retail store. However, Netgear does say that the batteries should be able to power the cameras under normal conditions for about 6 whole months. I've had the cameras on for about 6 weeks now, and they still indicate a full charge. Other than Netgears' choice of batteries and the positioning of cameras, which I continue to change periodically due to blind spots and the triggering of motion sensors by swaying plants and insects, the entire system was very easy to setup and connect to the wireless network. All I had to do was plug the base into my router with the internet cable provided and wait for a LED light to indicate that the base was ready for connection of the cameras. Once the LED light came on, I powered the cameras by installing the special batteries that came with them and pushed a single button on top of the cameras to connect them to the base. I then downloaded the app for my iphone and followed the instructions to connect it to the sytem. And, that was all there was to the initial setup. Anyone who can read and follow basic instructions will be able to finish the system's initial setup in very little time. I have been very happy with the system's performance so far. The cameras supposedly shoot HD videos in 720p that are clear enough for security purposes, but some newer systems can shoot in full 1080p. I was also able to connect one camera facing the home from a tree in my backyard that was probably at least 150-200 feet from the base. Occasionally, the camera will indicate through the app that it had a weak connection but it remained connected to the base as long as there was power and an internet signal. I'm currently looking to add a 5th camera to the system, but the cost for an add on camera is pretty steep at more than $150 per item. Netgear allows up to 5 cameras with a basic plan, but my system came with only 4 cameras. I think 4 cameras are the most that you can currently buy in one package. I hope this information will be helpful enough to convince potential buyers sitting on the fence that it is worth the price.

I've had this camera for a few months now, the battery is still at 80% at optimal settings. The video quality is still very good at this setting. I use this camera for two things: to watch my pet while I'm at work and to watch for folks intruding in my backyard. For months now I was unhappy because the default settings only allowed 10 seconds of recording time but I've just now found out I'm simply an idiot. If you create a custom "rule" you can change the motion sensitivity, the record time up to 2 mins, and how to be notified. This is amazing. I've seen the gas guy come to do meter readings and I've seen the backyard plants almost die during a storm. My only complaints would be the couple seconds delay to record after detecting motion and the motion detection distance. I placed my camera 20 feet high to cover the pathway leading up to the door. It only detects movement from roughly 20 feet away from the door, then takes a couple seconds to start recording which can miss recording a burglar if the person is walking fast or running. There is also the use of the Arlo website or the Arlo app for monitoring and recording purposes. If there's a video you like, be sure to save it before the 7th day afterwards because it will be erased as the days go on. The free trial of Arlo basic only allows a recordings withing a 7 day span, the 8th day will erase the first day, ect.

What I like- Easy setup, no wires (except for base station to your router), syncs 10days of footage to your phone, and quality of hd footage is decent day/night, arlo app is easy and free on any device allowing you to view your footage from anywhere-without an expensive subscription(unless you want more than 10 days-as footage cycles out. I like that you can turn on/off all cameras from the arlo app, view live footage from the app and keep an eye on things with ease(as long as your batteries don't die, mine last about a month, cameras with light use can get 2 months) I like that all my outdoor cameras survived harsh Chicago winter with ease. What I don't like- Batteries run down quickly, had to buy rechargeable kit at Amazon, because Best Buy didn't carry. Also, you have approx. 800-1000sq ft to link to base station before you lose sync, this was no good for a third camera I purchased over my garage as it was too far from the base located in my basement, I don't like that there's a delay in the footage, approx 5-10 seconds. You can request "live" footage but then batteries really drain and it's more of a "look in" as you can't record live footage using the arlo app. It only records 10-15 seconds when triggered by any motion. A windy day and camera picked up grass blowing in my yard and set my phone arlo alerts off so much I had to turn camera off. Overall for the price and no monthly subscription, the three arlo cameras serve the purposes I need. Which is 100% to keep an eye on all my entry points at home, while I'm gone. These cameras could work for business with low foot traffic, but otherwise you'd be changing batteries every 3-6 weeks and unhappy with delayed footage. Not sure if the newer arlo pro version addressed all these concerns? Hope this helped you-

After doing quite a bit of research on the Arlo system, between articles and non-bias reviews, I figured I'd go for it, because why not? You can return it if you hate it anyway... My husband, who is NOT tech-computer handy was a bit leery of helping me set this system up. He just told me a few minutes ago that he was surprised and very happy that it went so well and wasn't difficult at all. About the battery life - I've only had it set up for a day, however these cameras are activated by motion. If you have the camera pointing somewhere where there will be motion ALL DAY LONG then you will defiantly drain the batteries. You can also set motion sensitivity, so for instance, if you have plants moving in the breeze, you can change the sensitivity to essentially filter that out so it doesn't record when the plant is moving. So, if you are using it like we are, to detect and record motion when there isn't usually motion, then you'll be fine battery wise according to the many other reviews on other websites. Also, the other reviewer that said the batteries are $10 each, clearly doesn't know how to do a google search for products. You can get these batteries for about $1 each when you buy in bulk - each camera takes 4 batteries, so yeah, it will be $4 to replace them every 4-6 months, but that's not bad considering you didn't have to hire someone to drill holes in your house and run wires and all that. Cloud storage - the fact that this system doesn't require the use of a DVR or computer is cool. At first, I thought that it was weird and I would want more control over my own storage space, but it's actually really nice to not have to deal with another device. The system does require you to hook up it's wifi hub, but it's sleek and small and just plug it into your existing system and go. I will add though, that my existing routers are in the basement though, and when I hooked this up initially in the basement, by the time I got the cameras outside and to the back of my property, the signal wasn't strong enough. When I brought the hub onto the ground floor it worked absolutely fine. The pipes and other metals in the basement aren't too kind to wifi. Overall my household thinks this is great, my non computer savvy husband finds the app easy to use and so do my kids. I am very glad I made the purchase!

Read a lot of reviews prior to purchase, mostly good and only saw a couple of issues 1-battery life 2 - set up issues. So far, neither one of those things have not been an issue. The system set up was a piece of cake, unpackaging it took longer than the actual set up. I've had the system for over a month and have yet to see battery depletion . . .I don't use them for viewing things, motion detection and recording for 10 seconds and once and a while checking out the porch and to see if I left the garage door open. I was worried so I ordered a bunch of batteries from that gigantic place named after a south american river, and have not needed them yet. The picture quality is good. If a room is pitch black, you will see the infrared lights and a very slight clicking noise. The cameras mount very easy if you have metal surface to attach them too, although the mounting hardware allows for precise camera angles . . .magnets are very powerful. The system requirements state 1 Mbps upload capacity. My phone company internet is .75 Mbps and it hasn't caused any issues that I notice. My only complaint is the motion detection in terms of range and sensitivity. I've tried the adjustments for sensitivity without much luck and the range is not very far, in my experience its only about 12-14 feet.

This could be the permanent security system that will work for me long term. I've had it up and running for about a week now with no glitches or issues whatsoever. I love the free 7 days worth of cloud service and the ability to download recorded videos. I'm not protecting gold bars or the Mona Lisa in my house but I like to be able to keep an eye when I'm out of town. I can't find a single reason why this set up won't work for that purpose. Setup: Couldn't be easier. I followed the quick start guide and was up and running with 4 cameras in 30 minutes. This included mounting all of the brackets and everything. About the same in terms of time required for set up as the Dropcam. Range: This is where Arlo excels. My garage is detached from the house. There is about 50 feet of lawn between the house and garage. I like to have a camera in my garage so that when I get a "garage door open" alert (Liftmaster app, not Arlo), I want to be able to view a camera to see if it's my wife/kids messing around or if it's something else. My router is in my basement. I added a range extender on my main floor as close to the back of the house and garage as possible. The Dropcam would connect intermittently and video was choppy and unreliable. I'd say I would have issues about 75% of the time. With the Arlo, I plugged the base station into my router in the basement and still get 3/4 bars for signal strength. This camera takes a few seconds longer to view a live stream than the ones set up inside my house but once connected there is no break in the video stream outside of the occasional buffering. Wish list: First off I hope they start coming out with additional cameras as add ons that will enable sound (one way or even 2 way), sound detection, ability to hard wire vs using batteries, cameras that can pan/tilt/zoom. I am hoping that this is the the cards for the future because having these upgrades would truly make this a more complete security system. As others have mentioned I'd like the motion triggered recording to behave a little smarter. Rather than designating a set time to record, I'd like the camera to record until the motion event stops. The notifications with regards to motion are pretty annoying. For example, I am having some work done on my house right now and every time the front door camera detects motion I get a notification which yesterday was at least 25 of them until I shut off motion alerts for this camera about 2 hours into the day. The Dropcam behaves differently. It gives you 1 notification for a motion trigger and not another until you've cleared the first notification. This makes it less annoying. I would like to see an option for how many and how often notifications should be pushed out. Dropcam has a really nice feature that allows you to set up a "home base" which automatically shuts off alerts and/or the camera itself when your phone is in the selected vicinity. For example, it knows when I'm home so it turns off the camera altogether until I leave the house again. This saves me the trouble to manually having to turn it on/off. Yes I could use the scheduler on the Arlo but I find this impractical for my needs as my schedule is not consistent (i work at home randomly, leave/come home at different times each day, etc). Also would love to enable this feature on multiple devices so that it can automatically shut off when either my wife or I am at home. None of my wish list items are deal breakers for me because of the excellent quality of video I am able to view and the range of the cameras that make it so that I don't have to hard wire a router all the way out to my garage. It also seems like the Arlo/Netgear team is reading reviews and taking action, which hopefully means future software updates will add commonly requested features and new hardware options as well. If sound detection is a must for you then this won't work. If you just want basic motion detection and the ability to check in on your house then this is by far the easiest and best solution I've tried.

This camera system is pretty easy to use out of the box. Picture quality is reasonably good. App is user friendly. Mounting is very easy and versatile in ways other cameras aren't. The only drawback is that there is a delay in the picture transmission to the viewer in the app - a little annoying if you are trying to watch a live feed. This is really not a system for someone who wants surveillance as it is slightly off real time and it will eat battery life. Overall a decent bang for the buck as a monitoring system and just to check in with your home periodically.

I never really leave any reviews, but since i purchased this product and it has had such great reviews i figured i would share my personal findings. I bought this Arlo system in August 2015 and it started out great. Easy install and great picture. I even caught a theft happening in my yard. The easy of access was very easy and never had a problem with it. Now that it has been a few months of use I am not to impressed with it. I have had one camera replaced due to a defect and now I have two other cameras messing up on me. The app now lags and sometimes won't even load up even with my system reloaded several times and each camera reloaded still I am having issues. I have looked up and found I am not the only one having the same issues that I have with these cameras. The app has changed and has been updated several times to where sometimes the cameras would freak out and say there was motion 100 times over in a second or not record motion at all. I have two cameras currently showing in a pink hue, but work fine at night with the infrared lighting. This is the exact same thing the other camera did that I had to have replaced under warranty. For the warranty part after paying $500 for a unit if you select the lower online storage you have to pay for shipping to have the camera replaced, but first you have to send the defective price to the manufacturer and when they receive it they will then determine if it is bad then ship you a replacement. So if you like the ease of installation and don't mind replacing your batteries every two months then I say go for it. (Batteries avg. $7 apiece cameras take four each) I have asked for a refund due to all the problems but since I guess I went cheap on the online application it is not part of my warranty. So I will get my other two cameras replaced and a few more months down the road have to replace more and when there isn't any warranty left I guess just deal with it.

Very good camera for the price. I use mine outdoors and have attached it to my house; as I'm trying to catch someone who keeps letting their dog you know what in my yard. Since I've put it up, I've had 40-95 degree days and torrential downpours, along with severe thunderstorms...it keeps on ticking. I can only imagine it would work just as good indoors. The clarity through the camera is good; good enough to make out the person if you know them. The night vision is really good as well, considering this isn't a $1000 camera. I'm also a huge fan of the fact that it's wireless. I searched around and, for the money, this is the best wireless cam you can get. The installation was simple and the accompanying app (I have an iPhone) allows me to check the camera at any time, plus save out video and take photos. My only issue is the battery life but, that's on me b/c I have mine set to motion 100% of the time (and it's outdoors) with a 60 second record (can go up to 2 mins). So, my camera goes off every time a car drives by. It takes 4 lithium 123 batteries. If you're going to use this somewhere that has a lot of motion buy these in bulk. Overall I love this camera and would very much recommend it if you're looking for a wireless home camera system that can be used indoors or out. Easy installation, wireless, night vision and phone app really set this apart from the rest.
