I have had the NeoTV Max unit for about 2 weeks and I am still learning about it. It gives me precisely what I want for connectivity to Netflix and Hulu. I am also using it for Pandora music. There are a lot of services listed, many of which appear to be for foreign language services. I wish it had a feed to news channeles rather than what appears to be news podcasts. It does not have Google TV which may be or not the next big thing. That is on the NeoTV Prime. I don't know if it is NeoTV or Hulu, but commercials get cut off a second short. This does not make me cry. the system has frozen up once or twice, but I am not sure if it is NeoTV or Hulu that is the problem. The remote is a bit cheap feeling and it took a while to get used to the 8-way navigation button. there are games, but the remote makes playing them almost painful. For the money NetTV is a good system.

I bought this to stream my digital movie collection from my WD Live NAS and it would not play any of those. it found the files but they were not compatible. I hooked it up and set it up on my samsung 55" LCD HDTV and it worked fine but when I went to hook it up in the other room to my Panasonic 50" Plasma, Panasonic 42" Plasma, and Panasonic 35" LCD it would not work on any of them. So dissapointed. Returned and I got the WD TV Live Media Player and that one works like a charm for all that I wanted it to.

I bought this item because in the box it looked a better value than the Roku 2 that cost much more. It does play VUDU very well but the Youtube interface is horrible. Also this device is slow, very slow. It does not recognize my N+ router only the G. That was another reason I got this was for the 300mps speed but I never got that from it. Also, this thing freezes up alot. I am taking it back and getting the WD version as it is the only sub $100 player that will play all media formats including AVI.

This is exactly the product I was looking for to upgrade our older TV to the latest features. Includes popular channels like Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Pandora, Crunchyroll. Netflix supports subtitles and surround sound which my three year old blu-ray player does not support, so it's a nice addition. So far I have streamed from Netflix and Hulu Plus and listened to music from Pandora for hours without a hitch. The USB port on the side is a nice addition as well, currently it plays all of my videos and photos without any issues. Overall, very satisfied with the purchase and the added functionality is great for this price point.

Nice unit, nice idea, not ready. 1) HDMI kept losing connection. I had to uplug/replug several times. Tried two different cables on two different inputs. Had to push the cable in fairly hard a jiggle it and it would last for a few minutes. Very annoying. 2) The interface was nice looking, but very slow. 3) Netflix navigation was fine, but hung up at 20% loading every time. Had to restart the unit, replug the HDMI every time to get it back on. Never got a Netflix video to play. Other services seemed to work fine. 4) Remote is laid out great, but is very undependable. I had to get it within 5 feet of the unit to get it to respond, and even then there a a big lag. 5) Very limited availability of video playback formats for local stored content. I was looking for a replacement for my Western Digital Live player and a WiDi receiver. This had a lot of potential, but did not work for me. Returning today.

Worst experience with product and customer service

I first had the original NetGear computer mirroring device. Worked great....for about 6 months before it stopped working. Saw this new release NTV300SL that mirrored computer screen along with several other great features that I was looking forward to. Unfortunately all three units that I had to return all had the same problem. Set up was simple and easy...until I hit the 'Update Available' screen which you cannot bypass. Every time I updated the screen would go black with no further responses. Tried powering down, rebooting router, etc.. No luck. First unit spoke with customer service and informed that updating wirelessly corrupted unit - so returned #1. Purchased long ethernet cable to run across room so I could hardwire connection topdate - same problem. Returned #2.....along with Best Buy Geek Squad rep saying that wireless connectivity could not corrupt device. I decided to call Net Gear India support WHILE I intalled #as installation setup was very easy to this 'corruption' point#. Same problem again - black screen at the unavoidable Update Available winow. Spent hours waiting and speaking to Net Gear India again. They finally informed that I have been upgraded to a 'Level 2' tech and promised to receive a call within 2 days. 4 days later no call. So call with my Case# and informed of waiting for Level 2 tech. Received the 'so sorry' and informed that a Level 2 tech will call within 48hrs.....where I began laughing. Oy. I've never left a public comment on anything before but this was the most frustrating experience I've had with a purchase. Too bad because all of the combined features of this product are amazing and I would really love to have one that worked. Other reviewers seemed to have units that at least even if slow - I wish. Proceed with caution and hope that you do not need to call Net Gear customer service. I guess that I have to give up my computer mirroring feature and just go with a Roku. #apologies for the mispelling and grammer. Can't back space and insert without overwriting current typeset on this review window#

We purchased this product about a month and a half ago to save some money and get away from Time Warner. We notice problems almost immediately with this product. The remote sucks - we have more success using the remote app on our phones to control everything. For whatever reason, the signal between the box and the remote is poor...despite them only being six or.less feet apart. There is also sometimes a problem with start up. The unit will freeze and we'll have to remove the power source. The apps freeze frequently, as well.

I purchased this unit after researching the various models available because it seemed to excel in all the areas that were important to me. The set up was very simple and straight forward. I was disappointed that the Neotv Max didn't have an app that I expected to be on it so there was some disappointment early on. After using it for a couple of days some of the cool features of it had me sold. THEN the trouble started. The unit stopped recognizing an internet connection although it was hard wired and all the other items connected to the home network worked fine. We left it unplugged and it seemed to fix itself on its own. Then next day when we turned on the unit and it froze up. After leaving it unplugged for a few hours, we tried it again and a prompt on the screen told us to contact customer support. It was a nightmare trying to navigate the menus to get someone on the line and the limited English the person spoke led us to take this unit back. If you are looking for a set top box, I would consider all the offerings that Best Buy has. I had purchased a different one for a family member last Christmas and it's worked great even with her limited comprehension of technology.

I purchased the ptv2000 WiDi adapter from netgear about a year ago to use with my Dell XPS 17 laptop. I then paid $99 for the adapter. Saw the new NeoTV max on my trip to Best Buy and decided to upgrade to this unit since it had many more features including WiDi, but also Netflix and many other channels and a USB port. So far I am very impressed with the features this product offers at only $69. The WiDi with my xps17 works like a charm and the box is much smaller than the ptv2000 adapter.

I bought Neo TV max 300SL on Feb 25th. Netflix did not work after setup. I contacted Netgear customer support. One of the representative helped me over a live chat to restore the device to factory settings and updated the firmware. Netflix started working for two weeks. Same issue again, called customer support again. Representative told me that the device is defective and suggested to get it returned. Returned the player and got a replacement 300 SL device on Feb 26th. New device also has the same problem. I am trying my luck for one more time by reaching out to customer support. If that does not solve the problem, going to return this device. Apart from Netflix issue, this player freezes frequently and have to power cycle. Remote has to be pointed straight to the player. I never had such a poor electronic device.

I purchased this unit as a replacement for my old Roku unit. After two frustrating evenings with Neo, I boxed it back up and reconnected the Roku. The problem is that Neo stops working about 3/4 of the way through every program. It doesn't matter whether it is Netflix, HuluPlus, or CinemaNow, the box works great for the first 3/4 of the show and then stops and refuses to restart. I have to turn the unit off and then on again, which is fine for Netflix (as it will resume where you left off), but is very frustrating for HuluPlus, since if you stop 3/4 of the way through an hour-long episode, you have to restart from the beginning -- only to be cut off toward the end of the show again. I upgraded the firmware and confirmed that the signal strength was excellent. These were apparently not the problem. For some reason, the box just doesn't like to finish a show.

I can't believe I wasted $70 bucks on this paperweight. It is slow to respond... when it responds. It locks up all the time. I would take it back but Best Buy will only offer store credit and I want NOTHING else from them. I use it primarily for NetFlix... correction... I TRY to use it primarily for NetFlix. I get a fine sream on my laptop so I know it's not an ISP or bandwidth issue. I wish I had read the reviews before going to buy this product. Trust me... do yourself a favor and buy ANYTHING but this device.

Ended up getting a WD Live. This player was good at only one thing. Playing netflix. The remote rarely worked unless you stood up right next to the player. The network share didn't see anything I had shared on the media server. Other features were difficult, slow and laggy.

I have a Roku 3 XS and a NeoTV hooked up to my TV set. The only reason I ever use the NeoTV is to play movies in AVI, MKV or MP4 format. For everything else (Netflix/Amazon etc) I use the Roku. The Roku user interface is far superior to the NeoTV which seems to pause between each key press. The remote has to be pointed directly at the NeoTV box in order to work, guess I've been spoiled by the Roku's point anywhere and it still works remote. The remote on the NeoTV has a qwerty keyboard on the back which is impossible to use because of how the remote has to face the box. I curse everytime I have to use it as I know it's going to be a frustrating experience, but I have to use it because the Roku doesn't support direct playing of these files.

    Good box for basic streaming

Purchased to connect to a bedroom TV. Bedroom is on the opposite side of the house from the router, still picks up wireless signal with full bars. I also have a Galaxy S3 phone, doesn't pick up my wireless in that range. Therefore, I cannot use the remote app for my phone because the phonee cannot pick up the network. The keyboard on the remote is extremely unreliable and poor. Locks randomly, the keys do not push correctly. I found myself just using the arrow keys on the remote to the onscreen keyboard instead. Works great for basic streaming to a Netflix account on a bedroom TV.

First off, I feel sorry for those who purchased this piece of junk with their hard earned cash. Fortunately, I used my reward points so it is not a total loss. Okay, the unit is very slow. The HDMI output was DOA so I have to watch everything on Netflix in 480i - oooooh, I love watching movies like I'm swimming in a fish bowl looking out. The remote is nice with the "QWERTY" keyboard on the back - that is, if it worked!! I am so frustrated with this lousy product that I rarely watch anything using it. I have watched two movies on Netflix since I got it two months ago. Hmmmm, neoTV, I think the name stands for Never, Ever, Operational TV. This one is headed for the Goodwill store.

It's well worth the money but it does NOT play AVI

If you do not care much about playing movies or videos which you download from internet then its a excellent little box. But if you are like me and download hundreds of movies off the internet most of which are always in an AVI format then this is NOT for you. There are very few formats which this unit will support. Netgear should let us know that this unit will not play AVI and other formats of movies and videos so we would not need to make an extra trip returning it to the store. Check out all the other brand names of these media players and you will find that 99% of them all play avi files with the exception of the Roku media player. Check out the WD TV Live player, so far its the very best.
