Orbi RBS50 AC3000 Satellite - Flawless Performer

I purchased the RBS50 Add On satellite to go with the RBK50 system I already had to expand my coverage in the house. I bought this unit before installing the router and satellite because I wanted to bring them all up at the same time.
The reason I needed the additional satellite is because I have two PC's that are fed off of Ethernet cables. One is my Son's upstairs directly above my office and the other in my office. Another reason I was looking for a new WiFi solution was my cancelling of Comcast's 150 MBPS download/6 MBPS upload internet service. I was able to replace it with AT&T's Gigapower fiber-optic internet service with 840 MBPS download and 880 MBPS upload through the AT&T modem.
My previous router was the Netgear Nighthawk X6000 AC3200 router with a Nighthawk EX7000 AC1900 Exrtender in my office and an old Linksys extender in my Son's room. My office and my Son's room are 50-60 feet away from the router passing through several walls. The performance metrics below will highlight why I began looking for better networking equipment.
My PC: 150 MBPS download / 300 MBPS upload
Son's PC: 60 MBPS down / 65 MBPS up
iPad 15 feet from the router: 99 MBPS down / 100 MBPS up
iPhone 6s same distance: Same results as above.
Installed the Orbi system. The add on satellite synced flawlessly with the router as did the other satellite. A quick call to Netgear support got me past a sticking point associated with the Orbi app. I updated the satellite firmware, then the router firmware. I went to both PC's and measured the hoped for improvement. I was hoping to double my previous performance at a minimum. I was not prepared for the actual performance.
My PC: 643 MBPS download / 740 MBPS upload
Son's PC: 533 MBPS down / 640 MBPS up
iPad 15 feet from the router: 500 MBPS down / 550 MBPS up
iPhone 6s same distance: 375 MBPS down / 450 MBPS up
The improvement in performance is 4 fold to 9 fold better than my previous Netgear equipment which is only 3 years old. I am astonished at the performance. I check the performance everytime I get on my PC and it is rock solid stable at the numbers above.
The Orbi WiFi system is everything I thought it would be and THEN SOME. It is amazing technology and I can't wait to see what Netgear does for an encore!

This is my third Wi-Fi mesh system I have used, and the Orbi is excellent. What I like best about the Orbi is that it has fast performance and able to cover a large area because it has a dedicated 5 mHz band for back haul connection. Some mesh Wi-Fi systems and repeaters loss up to half the speed when using the extender or additional mesh unit. The dedicated channel for backhaul lets you experience faster speeds with your additional Orbi units. I have 50 up and 5 down cable internet. In my main room with the router and modem I can get speeds of up to 61 Mbps up and 6 Mbps down. In my living room I have an additional Orbi unit. I experience the exact same numbers. With my old systems my speed would be around 25 Mbps down and 2 Mbps Up. The Orbi I was able to have the exact same speeds 61 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up. I experienced the same numbers where I watch streaming down stairs with an iPad pro. No longer do I experience any buffering or lose of signal and clarity has been greatly improved. I set a third Orbi unit in my garage and here is where I love it. Speeds in my garage used to by 3 Mbps down and >1 Mbps up. With the Orbi I know have 40 Mbps down and 5 Mbps down. By my pool I could never have a signal and now my speeds are 30 Mbps down and 4 down. At the back of my property (3/4 of an acre about 120 feet from the main router and 100 feet from the 3rd Orbi unit) I have speeds of up to 30 Mbps down and 3 Mbps down. I now have internet all over my house and yard. I have an older house with plaster and concrete drywall, with a tiled full shower so there is a lot of barriers in my house preventing a strong signal.
Set up is through the website which can be slightly painful. I had to update the router and satellites and it took a while. I finally had to update them manually and it took several attempts to do this. There is an app, which shows you what is available and working, but it doesn’t really let you do much with the Orbi system.
I did not noticing a downgrade in performance when walking around my yard and house as I traveled from satellite to satellite and router. I like how the units are more vertical which leaves more space for other items on desks and shelves.
This is one of the better Wi-Fi mesh units out here if you are willing to upgrade the firmware and set up the system through your browser.

I started off with the main Orbi setup which comes with Router and Satellite. I have big home so I wanted to add another satellite to my system. Setup is a snap and the range and speeds are amazing. I have blazing fast wifi all over my home. It is so easy to setup, and each satellite has ethernet ports, and usb so you can connect even more devices. If you are looking for a total home wifi solution look no further and pick one of these up....you wont be disappointed.

Not much to say here. Add on to an already good system just to cover some dark spots in a large home. Setup and sync are easy, and range increase is as advertised.

Product delivered exactly what it advertised. Consistent 60Mbps download+ speeds in the farthest corners of my large three story house. Countless devices supported and no buffering or inconsistency. After buying the highest end tri band routers with many extenders, I finally have a solution that works and is extremely simple to set up and maintain. Price to Value equation. Well its pricey but having a system that I no longer have to tinker with and works every time for me is worth the extra dollars/

I have a 7,500 sf lot and two story 6000 sf house. This covers everything seamlessly. I have it set up with three satellites. This has been the solution to all other wifi issues. I tried EERO (so did their engineer who paid me a home visit) but couldnt get it working with consistency and had no explanation and refunded my money after taking 1 month of my time troubleshooting). I tried Cr-Apple Airport Extremes/Base Stations/Time Capsules, with 11 hardwired airport expresses - that did not work. This does. It was easy to set up and kept working and still does.

I have 4 of these throughout my house.
Before I purchased them, I was getting very little to no wifi in my bedroom(1900sqft 1950's home). Once installed, I was getting about 350 mbps on a 1gig connection in the same spot and that's with the closest satellite 35ft away through 5 walls.
Yep. Plus you can wire in to them if they are close. This might be the best feature. Wired in, 2 rooms from my modem, I get 500-650 on the same connection.
They are easy to hookup and control. You can shut the kids down if it gets to that and monitor what's connected to your system. Lots of fun dad features!
They go on sale quite often. So watch for that. But don't hesitate to buy them!

Was super easy to install and connect to the main router - plug in and go. Works great and extends WiFi to back yard and opposite end of house. Didn't give 5 stars as I thought the +$200 price was high but needed this model to work with my existing Orbi system

We had purchased the system consisting of one router and two satellites, but we found we had an inconsistent signal throughout our house, especially in the bonus room upstairs. Another issue we found with the product was the use of circle by Disney. It’s a really cool concept and the app is intuitive, but I believe the firmware is buggy as does others. With circle enabled we would lose network connectivity several times a day! We disabled circle and added this unit upstairs and we have not had a single issue! Great product, very intuitive, just could use a little work.

love this orbi. but its super expensive. and adding an additional nod is even more expensive. i bought this a while ago for myself and now bought it for my parents their house is way bigger so they needed several repeaters which made it really expensive. if i was to do this all over again i would chose either the apple or the google system depending on which world you have adopted because they are more streamlined with their products.
but this was still a great product.

Overall the fastest WiFi 5 speed and range. Fairly easy to setup and very stable. WiFi 6 version is much faster, but at double the price.

This is the second Orbi satellite I have purchased. I started with 1 base and 1 satellite and bought this one as my 2nd satellite. It was super easy to add to my network. Overall I have been pleased with the Orbi system. I have great Wifi coverage throughout my house with a single SSID. I highly recommend it.

This add-on satellite for my RBK50 system synced up perfectly and was a breeze. I added it with the initial setup of my Orbi system and was worried it might not recognize it, but no worries. My 5,300 sf home was a nightmare with many wifi dead spots and now it's not an issue. Love it.
