Purchased this device to stream content to televisions in my home via my Surface 2, Galaxy Note 3, and a couple of other devices. First, I must say the device is tiny and lightweight. If you have a designated location in mind, you should make sure you have an HDMI cable without a lot of tension or bulk - it will prevent the device from laying flat. The setup was straightforward, but required a little technical know how. The instructions require you to connect to the device wirelessly using a computer/tablet, then update the firmware, and restart the device. You will have to have a device with a file manager to update the firmware (iPads need not apply). With that said, I feel that the setup is a little too much for the average user. It was almost like setting up a router - easy for me, but most everyday people will need assistance with the setup. Once up and configured, it's pretty simple - just tune the TV to the proper source and follow the instructions on your device. Video and audio quality were superb, and the device adjusted resolution to the TV's resolution without a hitch. While using this device, I didn't experience video lag not once, and only had audio lag on initial connection. Performance appears to be excellent, but I will admit this is my first Miracast device. I have played around with AirPlay and AirParrot, and this matches them without a hitch. And because it's used with Windows devices, you can not only duplicate your screen, you can extend it - good feature. If you have a Miracast capable device, or would like to project using WiDi, I feel you can't go wrong with this device.

Like the Device, Just waiting for firmware update

The PTV3000 Push2TV is Netgear's current model for Intel Widi (and now Miracast) wireless video connection. When you have compatible equipment and drivers, setup is quick and easy; the adapter works well. However, the PTV3000 doesn't work with Windows 8 yet in Widi mode - a firmware update is expected "soon". I spent many hours trying to connect my wife's Samsung Notebook wirelessly, using multiple versions of Wifi and Video drivers, and multiple versions of the Intel Widi Software. I was finally able to finish setup using Win 7 Drivers, but the connection drops and reconnects every minute or so - I never get a reliable connection with Windows 8. After researching Intel, Samsung, and Netgear forums, I found that the PTV3000 Widi does not yet work with Windows 8. The information is found on the home page of the Netgear web site - ironically from the "Windows 8 - We're Ready!" link. This takes you to a Windows 8 Announcement page with a link to driver status. The PTV3000 Widi status is: "Coming soon. Win 8 support with Intel Widi 3.5." I stopped trying to connect the Samsung, but decided to try my Gen 2 i5 hp Probook - it has compatible hardware (Intel Advanced Centrino 6205 and Intel HD 3000 video) and is loaded with Windows 7 Pro. The notebook would not work with HP drivers, but when I used the Intel Update Utility at the Intel Download site to identify and update the Wifi and Video drivers, then installed the latest version of the Widi App (version 3.5.40.0), the Probook connected immediately - good quality and reliable connection. The PTV3000 is good if you don't need Windows 8 connectivity yet. My biggest frustration was digging up the compatibility information. Intel's web site shows the Push2TV as Widi compatible (no model number specified), Samsung shows my Series 5 notebook as Widi Compatible, and the Best Buy Compatibility page shows the Samsung Series 5 as Widi compatible (search for Widi and select the "Learn more about Intel Wireless Display setup"), but the Windows 8 incomptibility is not easily found. There is some very good Widi troubleshooting information on the Intel Website, which finally led me to the Netgear Windows 8 compatibility page, and the Intel Update Utility makes installation of Widi compatible drivers quite easy. I will keep the adapter and use it with my Win 7 notebook, and wait for the Windows 8 firmware upgrade. I would conditionally recommend the PTV3000 to a friend - make sure your hardware and Operating System is Widi compatible before buying. The product is working well with Win 7, but can't get a high rating because of Windows 8 incompatibilities.

    Very useful

I purchased this adapter to pair with my widi enabled ultrabook. The setup was very easy, the directions to pair straightforward. In order to view it at 1080p, there were a couple of more steps on the laptop display that you had to go thru which wasn't very clear out of the box. A google search later, I followed the steps, it worked. Also, there's a button on the side that can easily switch from widi to miracast, which is fine if you're also doing miracast but if you're not, just by moving the box around you can unsuspectingly switch from widi to mira and you'll get a "adapter not found" when trying to view via widi. Pretty easy to fix, once you realize the mode changed(press the button) but it can make you go "huh?" if it was working before and now it's not. There are also tips on the screen which are only there when you start the box back up, I feel that it should be in the box as well. I've also noticed that after a couple of uses, I have to cycle the power to reconnect to the adapter...annoying but I can live with it. I haven't had any issues with latency or connection during streaming. This review is just for Widi function, it was easy to setup and use. It is very slight on written documentation but help is a google search away. Being able to steam HBOGO and Netflix to the big TV...pretty cool.

Fantastic product, works without a wi-fi network

This is a fantastic product if you are looking for a device to project your mobile phone or latop using Intel WiDi or Miracast. Best of all, no wi-fi network is required. I streamed several types of video from an android phone over 4G and projected the video onto an HDTV. Setup was a snap. Picture was automatically formatted to fit the TV screen. Picture quality was very good. I streamed several sources of video from a Windows 7 laptop over WiDi onto an HDTV. Screen was formatted automatically and the picture quality was also very good. This is a perfect device if you have content coming from your cell phone or laptop and want to wirelessly stream it to your HDTV. Other products require connection to a wi-fi network. This product forms its own local wireless connection so wi-fi is not necessary unless you need it to access content.

I purchased this to display HD from my laptop, a fully WIDI compliant Series 9 Corei7 15inch Samsung Ultrabook. The thing worked great out of the box, and was easy to set up, however any update to the WiFi driver on the laptop caused a required re-install of all WIDI software (not netgear's fault, this is Intel's fault# First, it stepped on a static IP in my network for it's WIDI connection #used a duplicate IP to my DNS server etc., Again, Intel's fault not Netgear). When I did get it working, it worked great for about 5 days, then no display from PTV3000 at all, not even it's start screen, or connect screen. Returned first unit thinking maybe it was just the 1 unit went bad. Second unit was same story. Worked great for a few days, then NOTHING worked. The little white power light would come on but that was all. No display of any kind, let alone synced HD video from laptop. This unit is a dog, and needs more R&D from Netgear.

Not fantastic but best choice in market right now

This and the Actiontec screenbeam are the only two miracast adapters on the market right now that I know of. This one, though it still has a very small amount of stutter/lag and video degradation, has less of it than the Actiontec. Widi with a win8 laptop does work with this device. If it's not working, it's most likely your laptop drivers. Go to intel website to upgrade the drivers. Disregard old review ratings. Firmware updates happen all the time which can make very significant improvements to this product. Overall, it's far from perfect right now, but it's good enough for me (and I am fairly picky).

Worked at first plug in with GS3

This device is great. I decided to get it instead of the Samsung-only alternative (AllShare), because I want my husband to be able to screen-share too when he upgrades his phone and he doesn't like Samsung as much as I do and may choose a different brand. I also wanted to use it for work presentations with other devices, though I'm not sure if it's compatible with them yet. Install was a breeze, just hooked up the HDMI cable and used the USB port on the back of my TV. Worked from the start with no problems. It worked without the infamous firmware upgrade other reviews mentioned. I must have gotten a newer model with the better/upgraded firmware already. My Samsung GS3 detected it on the first try and streamed both Hulu and Netflix with no hiccups except a bit of buffering at the first moments. The only difficulty I had is that it drains the battery fast. I'd estimate that you could probably watch 4-6 hours screen-sharing on a fully charged battery and having the phone plugged in. The screen-sharing turns itself off when my GS3 battery hits 5%, whether it's plugged in or not. All said it is a great price and works great for screen sharing without wires.

Works GREAT - SUPER easy to set-up

I had been debating getting Apple TV for a long time - but this is even better. I'm using with the Lenovo Thinkpad E420 and the resolution is fantastic. I get 1080p display on my 55" Samsung HDTV for anything that's on my laptop. I have not yet tried this with a mobile device since I use iPhone #this won't work with iPhone#. The devise is super tiny #about the size of a deck of cards# and took under 5 minutes to set-up. Just plug in the power adapter #included#, connect the device to an HDMI port on your TV #you need to supply your own HDMI cable#, and then connect via your computer. One caveat - when I first tried to connect, my computer could not find the device. It turned out my WIDI was disabled. If using Windows 7, goto "Start" and type "My WiFi" to pull up the Intel MyWiFi interface, and then enable your adapter. After that, the laptop found the device with no problems and the quality of the display is amazing. Get this - it's about 1/2 the price of Apple TV and so much more versatile. Only draw-back is that if you have an iPhone, this device won't display it #Apple wants you to only buy their products instead of playing nicely with other protocols#

Works reasonably well, and hopefully will get better with updates. Connection to unit fails frequently even at close range. Does what I need, though, and most buyers will be techies. Netgear support pleasantly helpful.

When my Windows 8.1 PC connects to the NETGEAR Push2TV Wireless Display Adapter it causes Windows to change to a resolution which is unusable by practically every app I tried to run making the device next to useless for my needs. All the options to change the Windows resolution back to the higher resolutions were grayed out while connected to the NETGEAR Push2TV Wireless Display Adapter. Very disappointing, it held such promise.

    excellent mirroring device

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

as long as your device is compatible, this will mirror everything on your device to the connected TV. easy setup, easy connecting. I am a DISH customer; so instead of paying extra to have Joeys in the other rooms, I use this to connect my phone or tablet. And using the Dish Anywhere app, I can watch live TV or any of my DVR recordings. A con is that, unlike Chromecast, you cannot use your device for anything else, because it mirrors exactly what you are doing. Another con is the how you have to adjust the settings. You have to long press a button on the device to enter the setup mode, connect your device to it, then visit a webpage to adjust the settings. So, if you need to adjust the picture size that is being displayed, you have to do this process, and you cant see your changes happen; you have to wait to connect it again to see if the picture is the right size. On top of that, if you use different devices, the picture size will be different for each device. A huge time waster.

After the failure of the PTV2000, it's nice to see the PTV3000 do MUCH better than the previous generation of this device. The setup is VERY easy. The firmware update is a MUST! And is easy to perform using the on-screen guide. The connection wizard is intuitive and reliable.

I moved and have no internet connection at my new place so I wanted to project my phone (HTC One M7) onto my TV to watch my tv shows or netflix. I set it up but my phone would connect and disconnect within 2 minutes. I tried my pc (toshiba P75-A7200) and it worked fine so I thought I may need to upgrade my phone software, but I can't do that without wifi ::sigh:: so I checked if the device had any updates. It did so I downloaded the firmware for the device onto my phone, transferred it to my pc, and then installed it on the device and that fixed the phone connection issue. My only complaint is my phone's battery drains way faster while it's streaming to the tv. Having the phone plugged in doesn't really charge it as much as it just maintains the battery level at whatever % it may be. Both my phone and computer project onto the tv without any lag except for if I move the phone around or take it to another room

Easy and works but video performance disappointing

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

As a couple of other reviewers have stated, I am disappointed with the video performance of this device. Watching TV, movies, or other videos is met with fairly frequent stutters of blocky and choppy images with occasional, brief breakdown of the audio into robotic noise. Other than this annoyance, which I consider a big one because the main reason I purchased this was to watch Youtube and Netflix on my TV, it works as advertised. Set up and use couldn't be simpler.
