    Better Than Most

I purchased this wireless router about nine months ago after trying and ultimately returning the Belkin equivalent, which gave me issues with its security controls. The Netgear wireless router was simple to set up and add a basic encryption and it's also one of the more inexpensive routers available. I have found since I've owned it that it has needed to be reset about once every two weeks which is more than normal. It's a minor hinderance and most routers will need to be reset occasionally. If you need a basic wireless router to network through your home and don't feel like splurging the extra few dollars for a D-Link, the Netgear wireless router works great.

I got this router because it was a great value and I heard that they were very easy to set up. When I got home I tried to set it up but every time I ran the cd when it checked for my internet connection it said it was unable to find one. After calling Netgear and having them blame my internet provider I gave up and just put the router in the door. A few weeks later I just decided to pull it out and try to hook it up again. Low and behold it worked. Very easy set up had the wireless network running within 20 min. Has been running fine since then. Very happy with the router now. Not impressed with Netgear's tech support.

Good router for basic home use

Our old wireless router broke, and this one has worked perfectly for our needs. We check e-mail, use Facebook, and watch videos on Netflix (including on our Wii), in a split-level, 3-bedroom house, and this router provides the bandwitdth and signal strength we need to do that with several computers or the Wii running at the same time. If you have higher demand or a larger home, I would consider getting something stronger, but a representative at Best Buy can help you decide what you need.

    Great router

Overally, a very, very good router. If I could, I probably would have rated it a 4.5 out of 5 stars. It's not perfect, but it is only a little less. Get the somewhat negative out of the way first: the top of the unit has a ton of slits (most likely for air flow) that allow the front lights to bleed through the top. This is nothing too major, but depending upon where the router is sitting, it can be annoying. Also, while I think the use interface is great, and I had no issues with it, it still is not as easy to understand as a LinkSys router. Now the good: I purchased this to replace a LinkSys router, and I have no regrets. It is smaller and takes up less room, and more than that it just looks better. I love LinkSys and would, of course, recommend anything by them, but their routers are typically 'ugly,' and this one is not. I wish it had a second antenna, but even though it does not, the signal strength and distance seem to be the exact same through the house. What is superior to the LinkSys router, though, is the front panel. Most will not care about this, but it is overwhelmingly better to be able to actually tell at a glance what is working, not working, or having issues. LinkSys typically only has little green dots. You have to turn the lights on and walk up to it in order to see what each green dot represents. Not so with this router. The internet connection actually looks like an internet connection, the wireless connection light looks like a wireless connection, etc. I like that, a lot. As it is, great router with very minimal 'issues.' I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great router at a decent price.

I am by no means computer literate, and this is my first wireless router. I found it very easy to set up if you follow the promps on the screen. Took me about 40 min total to set up on my vista run laptop. Only reason it didn't take me 1/2 that time is becuase I had to call my ISP provider for the IP address and DSN number, which ended up not needing once I figured out that it was not a static IP address. A glossery of terms or something of that sort would have been usefull at that point. Other than that, for 40 bucks I have my whole house at near 100% signal! Great product for an awsome price!

Bought from best buy, setup in less than minute (i have done it before), so it was pretty basic stuff for me. Maybe issue for a new user. Reliable and works pretty smooth as expected better than my burned out trendnet router. Sometimes the connection goes down but it has happened one or two time in past two months and is not an issue as it happens in my home with every other router.

Simple instructions on enclosed disc for installation. Would probably be faster had I realized I had to disable my security suite for the installation. It took me a couple of hours to figure this out.. so be sure to disable your firewall and maybe the whole security suite as well before loading the installation disc. I bought this same router 3 years ago and it worked flawlessly during that time but just suddenly died one day. Don't know what the average lifespan of a router should be?

I bought this router because I liked the looks of it. I have a mac, and the white just looked cool. I could not be more pleased with the performance. I wanted the wireless, but had heard bad things about the Linksys. NETGEAR has always provided solid products & support - and this is no different. It was a breeze to set-up, and the range is excellent. BUY THIS!

    Works Great With PS3

I originally was going to buy a wired router because I didn't want slow speeds and signal drops. A lot of wireless products have gotten bad reviews so I was wary. I decided I needed wireless so I picked up this netgear router and boy am I happy I bought it. It was a snap to set up. It took under 10 minutes to set up securely and I was ready to go. I had to change a few things in the modem's online settings to get the Playstation 3's online gaming to work for call of duty 4. Took 2 minutes to change the settings. If you have issues like I did just go to their website and search for Playstation 3. It works. Online gaming is buttery smooth and signal doesn't cut out. In fact it seems my internet works better now that I'm using this router. Internet speeds on all the things I have set-up to work with this router are super fast. If your looking for a great router for online gaming or just surfing the web get this one. After using this netgear router I'm not going with any other company ever again. Period.

I bought this router as an inexpensive replacement for the 5 year old D-Link Wireless Gaming Router that finally bit the dust, right in the middle of watching a movie on Netflix. Since all of my computers and PS3 are wireless, and the DSL modem is too far away (and in an apartment) to run ethernet cable, I had to have something quick. For the price, you can't beat the ease of installation/configuration/use. Devices that use WPS (Wifi Protected Setup) will easily connect using just the access point's SSID (name) and security code. The latter of which is printed on the router. This makes securing your network easy for those not knowledgeable in wifi security. There are the standard advanced features like port forwarding, DMZ, and MAC filtering. Then it actually has more advanced features like QOS, which allows you to configure a device/computer/internet protocol to have top access to your available bandwidth (internet speed) while speeds are "throttled" for others. The only thing that I don't like about this product is the fact that you cannot replace/upgrade the antenna. The relatively short antenna that is permanently mounted provides moderate coverage when placed in a small apartment laundry closet with metal doors. I have to keep the doors open to allow the signal to pass through a corner and reach my equipment no more than 25 feet away (line-of-sight). While it's partially the installer's (my) fault, I would have liked to connect the larger, 6-8" antenna from the dead D-Link. Instead that antenna found a new home on my home theater PC, helping that device obtain a better connection with the router. Placement of the router in another room and in a more central area of the apartment would be better. Ease of install and configuration allow anyone to setup a wireless network in their home in less than an hour tops. If you're looking for a wireless router that does exactly what it's expected to do - share your internet connection wirelessly - and doesn't break the bank, this router is perfect.

    Call tech support for installation

I did not want to spend a lot of money but wanted wireless and this seems to be a good choice. As far as the range it can pick up, I live in a townhouse and I have full connection with all the bars all over my house and in the back yard. I can't speak for how it would do in a large house. The installation was not fun! I loaded the disk and tried to follow the instructions. I got to the Activate Network part and could go no further. I called tech support. My call with them lasted for over an hour, so I recommend not doing the install if you do not have the time or patience to devote to it. The disk installation had taken over my computer (even though I took the disk out)! The tech support worked with me to clear up the problems the disk installation had created. Once all that was resolved, we did the manual installation over the phone and that was easy. It is always easier when someone is explaining it to you. If computer setup is not your specialty, skip the disk and call tech support. I would have been on the phone with them 15 minutes for the installation if we did not have to clear up the problems the installation disk had caused. Tech support was very helpful!

Works great, quick and easy to install, very reliable. I only live in an apartment, so I can't say if the range would be great in a bigger house or not, but it works perfectly for the apartment that I'm in. I use it for general internet browsing as well as Netflix streaming, and I haven't had any problems connecting my laptop or my wii to the router. I'd definitely recommend this product.

I purchased this router yesterday and had it set up in less than 30 minutes right out of the box. I had problems previously with other routers from other vendors not being compatible with Vista and my DSL Modem. Maybe it was me and not the later, but with NETGEARS router I had none of the issues I had previously experienced. No tech support required setting up this router. Just follow the CD instructions and you'll be networking in less than 30 minutes! It is also a GREAT value as well. My last router I spent twice the money and got nothing but headaches trying to install it, of course it was not from NETGEAR. This router is also small in size, which is great since my PC tower is a slimline model. It sits right on top like it was made for the location. Thanks NETGEAR , It's GREAT!

This is an entry-level router that I myself purchased as my first, so I didn't know about the pitfalls of wireless networking. Got WEP working fine, that's the feature that makes it so that you have to give a password to connect. Sometimes, especially when we had a friend over which added a 3rd or sometimes 4th computer to the network, noone would be able to connect to the internet and we'd have to either shut down a computer or reset the router. Sometimes it would suddenly stop being able to download randomly. It had a rather long startup sequence so this was tedious. When it worked though, it was fast, the signal strength was great, and setup and maintenance was easy. I even figured out how to block specific websites with it. So I recommend it for people with just one or two laptops in the house with mild-to-medium internet usage.

This router is excellent for the price. It installed and found my wireless equipment in minutes. I ran my desktop, 2 laptops and PS3 and they all worked fine with lightning speed. Just follow the instructions and you won't have any problems. Turn off the firewall on your computer before installation and turn on the firewall on the router after installation. This will prevent both firewalls from working against each other. Also, the firewall on the router is probably better and more secure anyway.

The Netgear router was simple to setup. Clear and easy to follow instructions. Set it up for friend in a condo and I use it several times per week. I have noticed a few dropped connections but not sure why. Speed is good, though haven't wandered far away to test its range.

This router is capable of far more than the average user will ever need. It is a great price, and it sets up nicely. The price is great because if you purchase two you can use the repeating function of this router and blanket a larger area than the N series can, and with better results. That is what I did. One upstairs, one down stairs to transmit signal all over the house!

This is a sleak looking, fairly simple to use-and-install wireless router that gives you the most bang for your buck. It works with both Macs and PCs. The design is very modern, and it is very compact. It comes with two clips that allow you to stand it upright. It looks very sharp. Installation is very easy. I know little about computers and I installed it by myself and added the extra security features without issue. If you're an advanced user you can configure it manually, or if you're a novice it will walk you through every step with picures. For the price this is a great deal. I'm very glad I decided to get this model, and highly recommend this product.
