It's nothing special. My internet connection is still the same as before with my older than dirt router. Not impressed. Waste of money.

Really like how easy this was to install

I've worn out two routers since I went to broadband 7 years ago. The first one required a lot of tweaking and a call or two to tech support. The second required about the same amount of tweaking, but no tech support. This one was dead easy- I was all ready to beat it with a stick like I did my other two- and it installed itself without any fuss or tweaking! All I did was give it a better password. It's clear that the newer hardware and software in today's routers (and operating systems) integrates a lot better than it used to. Sure, I could get into the 'guts' of the software (and I did- I dislike some of the default settings) but even that was easy. The price and speed were just right. I'd recommend this to even a novice. Being a techie myself, that's high praise.

The instructions are very easy to follow, it 's so easy to setup that I can use it to go on-line from opening the box to finish setup in less than 5 minutes and I'm not even a pro, so that's how easy to use this router is. I've used it for a few months now and it still runs great. never dropped a signal. The range is great, for a 1000 sq.ft. 2 story build, I have no issue going on-line all around the house, my router is setup on the first floor and I have no problem using the wireless connection at all even I use my laptop in any other rooms or 2nd floor in the house, I even tried on my deck, it works great. Over all, I'm very satisfied, it's a reasonable price so that's a plus. I would recommend this to anyone.

    Excellent Router

I was concerned that once I got the router home, I'd be spending time getting error messages or waiting on the phone to Netgear's Customer Service Dept asking for help to get it working. I opened the box and right away I see a color coded cord and color codes and symbols on the router itself. The USB cord is yellow. The router has a yellow circle on it to show you where to plug it in. There is a Green triangle showing where cord from my desk top computer is to be connected. Finally a black square to show where the black power source gets plugged in. How simple is that? Inserted the disc in my desktop to load the program. Turned on my laptop, click find wireless device and I was up and going. I could not believe this went off without a problem. The router seems to be as fast as my desk top which is plugged in directly to the cable source. No lose of signal, drop offs or delays in loading a program off the web. My laptop would not load web sites after I installed McAfee Anti Virus. So I unistalled it and everything worked fine again. I don't know if it was a conflict with another program or the router. I loaded Windows Security program instead and everything was back to working great.

This router has to be restarted constantly. Working from home this is a big issue as I need to depend on reliable connectivity. I will probably return this router and get a more reliable one.

Very nice upgrade over Wireless G w/ Speedbooster!

I purchased this router on sale after reading several reviews on it. I had a Linksys Wireless G router with Speedbooster. It did its job, but my signal dropped once outside my bedroom...and forget it if any farther than two rooms! So, I decided to take a chance and go with Netgear's Wireless N. Installation was amazingly simple! It worked without a hitch right out of the box, correct instructions, AND even in a Windows Vista environment! Wireless connection has been MUCH improved over the Wireless G...I can get a signal anywhere in my house and even in the backyard! I have attached a Netgear switch to the router too. Now, I have four hard-wire ethernet lines PLUS wireless to my laptop AND my Nintendo Wii! The speed is wonderful and the N was ample enough to stream Netflix wirelessly to my Wii at the other end of my house. I recommend this router without hesitation! You can't beat it for the price!

I have owned some lousy routers. In fact they were all lousy, especially the ones I leased from the cable company. I have had this router for about two years and it has never failed me for even a second. The range is great even in a two-story house. I had, at one point, 5 computers (desktops and laptops) and two smartphones on my network in different rooms all around the house without any problems. I am moving now and I just bought another one to take with me because I am so completely satisfied I see no need to upgrade and the price has dropped by half since I bought the first one. I will never buy another brand again.

best wireless router ive ever used

by far one of the best wireless routers i have ever owned. i needed a new wireless router when my previous one of 5 years had finally gone south. i originally purchased the more expensive linksys wireless N router, but returned it after a week of owning it. the linksys router would not stay connected more than a day at a time. finally i called linksys and went thru the install procedure with them step-by-step. still no go. so i exchanged it for the netgear and couldnt be happier. the setup of the netgear was flawless. i am running everything in my house wirelessly (5 laptops with different versions of windows, iPhones and iPods and even my desktop PC) with no trouble. my entire network works as if everything was hard-wired, and is totally secure. the range of the router is impressive too. i can sit out on the back patio, or be down in the basement and have zero issues with signal strength. i even pick up my signal across the street at my neighbors house!! i would definately buy and recommend this product over and over

Bought this router to replace an 8 year old Linksys WRTG54 that literally wore out. The Netgear ease of use blew me away! After setting up security, I had 6 laptops and an IPOD touch accessing this router in less than 30 minutes. With the Netgear, all I had to do was select the security settings, enter a router name, select a passphrase and save it. Then for the Laptops and IPOD, all I needed to do was select the router and access type in the passphrase (With my old Linksys, I needed to type in a 20+ code since it was 128Hex). The range and speed of this unit is amazing. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a basic router for home use.

I replaced a wireless g Netgear router that got fried in a recent lightning storm with the WNR-2000. I had no problems installing it. In less than 15 minutes, I had all prior functions re-established (wireless notebook, wireless HP printer, 2 wired desktops), and have had no problems at all in over a week of use. Seems solid to me. The WGR-614 that I replaced cost nearly as much 6 or 7 years ago and performed nobly until a recent electrical storm. The WNR-2000 required only a sequential hookup of modem, router and one wired unit, then a quick CD install, then activate the wireless, in not much more time than it took to type this review. Very easy and so far totally fast and reliable. Internet upload-download times are just as fast as wired direct to modem.

    Easy Set-up and Running Great

I don't know why I waited so long to upgrade my router. I originally had a hand-me-down g-router I received from my brother (Netgear Model# MR814#. My Internet Service Provider is Comcast. I ran a speed test on my g-router before disconnecting it and was getting averages of 17 Mbps download speeds and 3 Mbps upload speeds with some minor packet loss. This is with my wireless desktop located a few feet away from the router. This was really not the issue for me. My problem was that my wireless router is located in a basement where my desktop computer and entertainment center is located. When using my laptop or my iPod Touch I was finding certain areas, like my upstairs kitchen, where I was hitting dead spots. When running a speed test in these areas I was getting an average of 4 Mbps download speed and only 1 Mbps upload speeds and it is very common for me to lose the signal all together and then I have to unplug and re-plug in my router to get it to reset and work again. This was becoming a pain. I finally broke down and bought the Netgear N300 WNR2000 and installed it. Using the supplied Netgear Genie Set-up CD I was able to hook up and configure the routers security settings in about 15-20 minutes. The bulk of this time was spent moving my desk and hooking up the Ethernet cables and power supply cord. Although I personally didn’t need it to be, everything is color coded and hooking up the wires and power is a snap for anyone who has never installed a wireless router before. Once my router’s settings were configured #using the supplied CD# I wirelessly connected my laptop, netbook, X-Box 360 and my iPod Touch. I had them all connected within ten minutes. I can’t remember how long it took me to install my old Netgear g-router several years ago, but installing this new n-router was as easier than I imagined. Once everything was wirelessly connect I re-ran the speed tests #www.speedtest.net) and I was getting an average of 24 Mbps download speeds and 5 Mbps upload speeds on my desktop and 17 Mbps download speeds and upload speeds of 4 Mbps on my laptop from my upstairs kitchen, where I originally had a dead spot with my old g-router. Also, I tried several all the other problem areas that I had and they are all getting a robust signal with my new router. No more dead spots! Also, works great outside in my yard. I haven’t tested to see how far I can actually go before losing my signal, but I really don’t care. I just wanted to make sure the signal remained strong around my property and it does. So far, the router is working as expected with no problems. I have not experienced any signal loss or having to reboot it. I would recommend this router to anyone looking for an upgrade to an older router or anyone who would like to extend their wireless coverage to eliminate dead spots in their home

    Excellent switch from Linksys

Until I bought this router, I was a dedicated Linksys user. I've been using Linksys since Windows 95. Ever since Cisco aquired them, they've become just another throw away brand. It sucks. Anyway, my last Linksys purchase was the router before this one. The WRT54G2. That was 1 year ago. For the last month I've had to hard reset it daily. Now, onto the Netgear. This thing is a HUGE upgrade from Linksys. As soon as I had the router set up, I went to speedtest.org, and my speed was notably faster than with the Linksys. The web "feels" faster. I own a PS3 and 360, downloads on both are faster. Gaming never lagged on the Linksys, so I can't fairly compare the two. I have a PC in the other room that holds my music, movies, and records TV shows through Windows Media Player via TV tuner. These are all accessed wirelessly by my laptop and Xbox 360. This is where the difference really shows. Watching high quality video wirelessly, while browsing the web (sometimes including YouTube) without a second of pause in anything. I cannot say this about the Linksys. Plain and simple, I abuse my network with a lot of things going on at any given time. This Netgear router handles it like its just another day at the office. Highly recommended.

I'm not a computer geek. From witnessing or hearing about the experiences of others going through installing a wi-fi system I wasn't at all confident about doing this myself. My girlfriend, for example, had to have The Geek Squad set up hers. Seemed like advanced linear Algebra (whatever that is). Anyway, I took the leap and I admit it stumped me about 5 minutes into it. But, all it took was to calm down and re-read the instructions. I was really close to giving in and paying the $100 or whatever it was to have it set up for me. But after doing a slow thorough reading of the instructions it became clear as a freshly cleaned window. Simple. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!! Works very nicely and does what it's supposed to do. I don't have a big house. The modem/Netgear is in the basement but I have excellent performance for my iPod touch and laptop on the main floor.
