Customers are enthusiastic about the gameplay, citing fun levels and a timeless yet refreshed feel. Many also highlight the game's fun factor and ease of use, particularly for children. While some find the price point high, others appreciate the adjustable difficulty and variety of characters. A few criticisms mention the controls and level design as areas needing improvement.

Yes, the graphics are the somewhat childlike Mario fare, but the game itself is solid and definitely challenging, even for an adult player like me. Months on, I’ve still not finished everything. I’ve seen those Mario Maker videos with astonishingly hard levels and this isn’t quite to that level, but for a more casual player like me there were still plenty of levels that took me awhile to finish and even longer to nail every collectible. Your mileage may vary, but at least in my opinion, this is not a game that suffers for being too easy. It’s closer to the opposite. As usual, Nintendo knows what they’re doing!

"New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe" for the Nintendo Switch offers a fantastic and comprehensive 2D Mario platforming experience, especially if you missed it on the Wii U. It's essentially two games in one: the original "New Super Mario Bros. U" and its substantial, harder expansion, "New Super Luigi U."
**What I loved:**
* **Classic Mario Gameplay, Polished for Switch:** The core platforming is as tight and enjoyable as ever. Mario's signature jump feels perfect, and the level design is consistently creative, offering a satisfying blend of familiar tropes and clever new obstacles. It's a testament to Nintendo's mastery of the 2D platforming genre.
* **Huge Amount of Content:** You're getting 164 courses across both main games, plus additional modes like Challenges, Boost Rush, and Coin Battle. This provides a tremendous amount of replayability, whether you're aiming for 100% completion or just want to jump in for a quick burst of fun.
* **Accessible to All Skill Levels:** The inclusion of new playable characters like Toadette (who transforms into Peachette with the Super Crown, offering a helpful double jump and recovery from falls) and Nabbit (who takes no damage from enemies) makes the game incredibly approachable for younger or less experienced players. Meanwhile, "New Super Luigi U" provides a much stiffer challenge for veterans with its shorter, faster, and trickier levels.
* **Great for Multiplayer:** The game truly shines in co-op. Up to four players can join in with just a single Joy-Con each, leading to hilariously chaotic and often collaborative gameplay. It's a perfect party game for friends and family.
* **Portable 2D Mario:** Being able to take this extensive 2D Mario adventure on the go with the Switch's handheld mode is a significant plus.
**Things to consider:**
* **Familiar Formula:** If you've played other "New Super Mario Bros." titles, the game doesn't drastically reinvent the wheel. It adheres closely to the established formula of grass worlds, desert worlds, ice worlds, etc. While the level design is strong, it might feel a bit "safe" compared to the more experimental 3D entries like "Super Mario Odyssey."
* **Not Many New Additions for Wii U Owners:** If you played "New Super Mario Bros. U" and "New Super Luigi U" extensively on the Wii U, the "Deluxe" version doesn't offer a huge amount of brand-new content outside of the new characters and some minor tweaks.
**Overall:**
"New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe" is a must-have for any Nintendo Switch owner who missed out on the Wii U original. It's a robust, incredibly fun, and highly polished 2D platformer with tons of content and excellent multiplayer. While it might not break new ground for the series, it perfects the classic formula, making it a fantastic addition to your Switch library.

The best purchase I could have done for Nintendo Switch, guarantee of fun for the whole family, the game has many hidden words and passages that will make you play for hours without being bored. Cost is too high, as other Switch games.

I got this game for my 4-year-old son, but it's enjoyable for the whole family. Mario and Luigi mainstay characters are usable for those who want the nostalgia of some of the classic Super Mario Bros games, and characters Toad and Nabbitt are available for more novice players (such as a 4-year-old). I would highly recommend this game if you own a Switch.

Fun game. On the Super Mario Bros. you get new levels in a similar format to older editions of the game. In the Luigi game it's essentially a shortened version of the other game with a shorter time limit and the characters jump higher but slide more (more likely to slide off) which is an interesting twist to the original game. Toadette and Nabbit have been added to this edition of the game (both Mario and Lugie) to make the game easier for younger players or players who have a tendency to die a lot (me). Toadette has higher jumps, has an exclusive upgrade to princess peach (better/higher jumps), and has better controls when swimming (you don't have to constantly push a button to swim/keep afloat). Toadette can also use the other items such as shoot fire and ice. Nabbit on the other hand only really dies if he falls but he can't use any items. Overall, it was fun to play through, challenging enough to keep the more serious gamers interested while having easier characters to help get the more casual players through without dying so often (if you die they give you 5 more lives but if you're by yourself or if everyone looses all of their lives you have to start over at the last castle you won).

Let's be honest, I bought a Switch because I heard they were making games similar to the old style I liked. I hate these 3D games. I never know where I'm going nor what I'm doing in them.
With that, I decided to buy this game. It's like Super Mario 3 only in 3d but better! I love the items, and being able to switch characters around too. This is SO MUCH FUN!
There is the ability to make this a s 2-4 player game as well. And if you do play with 4, it is a riot! People going too far and accidentally killing you all is a blast.
All in all, highly recommended! There's so much to discover in this game!

Fun game. Reminds me of the old school Mario but with much better graphics.

I love these classic spins on Super Mario Bros. I know the ratings came out bad for these but I'm old school. I got an NES in the 80's so this really hits home for me on the nostalgia meter but also gives it a fresh spin. I played New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii as well and these games just don't get old. They are really fun to play multi-player as well. Gets a little chaotic on the screen with 4 players but that's part of the fun we never got on the originals where we had to take turns... No more arguing over who gets the first or second controller.

I love playing Mario Bros. Brings me back so many childhood memories, back when my dad used to play with me and my sister. Now i get to pass on the joy to my kids and they love it as well.

I love Super Mario Games in general but this one is pretty fun. I like that you can choose the difficulty and on the easier setting if you get stuck on a level you can choose for Luigi to pass it for you. Very similar to Classic Mario with an update and an excellent port of the Wii U game. I grew up playing Super Mario Bros and Super Mario World. This game follows that style.

I purchased this particular game of Mario because it was like a nostalgic moment. I’ve always played Mario growing up as a kid, so I wanted to find the closest version of the three different kinds of super Marios. I love the upgraded colors of this version of the game. But my favorite part is is just like original Mario with a twist. I’m sad to almost be finished with the game, but I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.

It's reminiscent of the Wii Mario Bros game, which is nice. I can play with friends like I used to now.

Honestly, Nintendo has really overpriced this game but what's new? You won't get much in the way of surprise and delight with this game when it comes to big changes in mechanics or story. But I think it's a decent addition to your collection if you catch it at a good price. I got this one on sale for $30 and in my opinion, that is what it's MSRP should have always been. It's your typical side-scrolling Mario game that harkens back to the level design and nostalgia of the original classics. On the upside, it has multiplayer and allows for you to choose different characters whose abilities differ slightly, providing a bit of variety. This game is great if you have kids or have friends over for casual gameplay and just want to have fun. I'd never recommend it at full price but if you get this on sale its a worthy purchase.

This one is for me ! Was a gift from my husband. But of course my 19 year old steals it! We have fun with it. Not complicated to use and navigate but still challenging to conquer!
