Yes, the graphics are the somewhat childlike Mario fare, but the game itself is solid and definitely challenging, even for an adult player like me. Months on, I’ve still not finished everything. I’ve seen those Mario Maker videos with astonishingly hard levels and this isn’t quite to that level, but for a more casual player like me there were still plenty of levels that took me awhile to finish and even longer to nail every collectible. Your mileage may vary, but at least in my opinion, this is not a game that suffers for being too easy. It’s closer to the opposite. As usual, Nintendo knows what they’re doing!

"New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe" for the Nintendo Switch offers a fantastic and comprehensive 2D Mario platforming experience, especially if you missed it on the Wii U. It's essentially two games in one: the original "New Super Mario Bros. U" and its substantial, harder expansion, "New Super Luigi U." **What I loved:** * **Classic Mario Gameplay, Polished for Switch:** The core platforming is as tight and enjoyable as ever. Mario's signature jump feels perfect, and the level design is consistently creative, offering a satisfying blend of familiar tropes and clever new obstacles. It's a testament to Nintendo's mastery of the 2D platforming genre. * **Huge Amount of Content:** You're getting 164 courses across both main games, plus additional modes like Challenges, Boost Rush, and Coin Battle. This provides a tremendous amount of replayability, whether you're aiming for 100% completion or just want to jump in for a quick burst of fun. * **Accessible to All Skill Levels:** The inclusion of new playable characters like Toadette (who transforms into Peachette with the Super Crown, offering a helpful double jump and recovery from falls) and Nabbit (who takes no damage from enemies) makes the game incredibly approachable for younger or less experienced players. Meanwhile, "New Super Luigi U" provides a much stiffer challenge for veterans with its shorter, faster, and trickier levels. * **Great for Multiplayer:** The game truly shines in co-op. Up to four players can join in with just a single Joy-Con each, leading to hilariously chaotic and often collaborative gameplay. It's a perfect party game for friends and family. * **Portable 2D Mario:** Being able to take this extensive 2D Mario adventure on the go with the Switch's handheld mode is a significant plus. **Things to consider:** * **Familiar Formula:** If you've played other "New Super Mario Bros." titles, the game doesn't drastically reinvent the wheel. It adheres closely to the established formula of grass worlds, desert worlds, ice worlds, etc. While the level design is strong, it might feel a bit "safe" compared to the more experimental 3D entries like "Super Mario Odyssey." * **Not Many New Additions for Wii U Owners:** If you played "New Super Mario Bros. U" and "New Super Luigi U" extensively on the Wii U, the "Deluxe" version doesn't offer a huge amount of brand-new content outside of the new characters and some minor tweaks. **Overall:** "New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe" is a must-have for any Nintendo Switch owner who missed out on the Wii U original. It's a robust, incredibly fun, and highly polished 2D platformer with tons of content and excellent multiplayer. While it might not break new ground for the series, it perfects the classic formula, making it a fantastic addition to your Switch library.

For those who appreciate the classic side-scrolling experience, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is a masterpiece. It captures that nostalgic, traditional "Mario" feel perfectly while offering modern, crisp visuals. The level design is brilliant, providing a serious and rewarding challenge that feels both familiar to long-time fans and fresh for new players.

I love Super Mario Games in general but this one is pretty fun. I like that you can choose the difficulty and on the easier setting if you get stuck on a level you can choose for Luigi to pass it for you. Very similar to Classic Mario with an update and an excellent port of the Wii U game. I grew up playing Super Mario Bros and Super Mario World. This game follows that style.

I purchased this particular game of Mario because it was like a nostalgic moment. I’ve always played Mario growing up as a kid, so I wanted to find the closest version of the three different kinds of super Marios. I love the upgraded colors of this version of the game. But my favorite part is is just like original Mario with a twist. I’m sad to almost be finished with the game, but I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.

This is a great game. Levels at more challenging than the last Super Mario Bros. While I wish I was able to bubble as desired like the last version for Wii, I do appreciate how it forces me to take more risks. Platforming is definitely not my strong suit, but I truly enjoy the game. The levels are challenging enough that it makes me not play through the whole thing at once.

If you hadn't played New Super Mario Bros U + New Super Luigi U (we'll call it NSMBU+NSLU) when it launched on the Wii U then this is a great time to experience the game in full 1080p. Like most other Wii U to Switch ports this game now runs at 1080p on TV and 720p handheld. On Wii U it ran at 720p on TV and 480p in handheld. The other new additions have been the replacement of blue Toad with options for Toadette (aka Peachette with the super crown) and Nabbit who doesn't take damage from enemies. If you played through on Wii U it was a fun game but now with Nabbit a younger player can have fun playing with a group of more experienced players. Also Peachette can fall it pits and bounce back up once per fall. So the new player options are great. Not to mention the New Super Luigi U DLC being included that was $20 more than the base $60 when it released after the original game. If you've played through the game once there isn't really any new content aside from the two new player choices. Old modes return including challenges where you can play as a Mii character. So I can recommend NSMBU+NSLU Deluxe but your level of enjoyment can vary. On the one hand not many experienced this game on Wii U so it's great to have a true Mario side scrolling adventure on Switch.

Mario is back with another solid platformer. Whatever you think when you think Mario this is probably it. It doesn’t do anything crazy different , basically just another “new” SMB game. That doesn’t mean it’s bad though. The game is still plenty of fun.

Awesome game. It takes me back to the old Super Nintendo. I must admit the game has some very challenging levels and I have got a bit angry at times but I’m glad it’s not too easy. I would highly recommend buying this game it will keep you entertained for hours.
