I'll be honest. There are good things and bad things about this mp3 player.
First, it's a good price for the amount of memory it has. It's small, thin, so it can fit almost anywhere. It's easy to navigate. And if you want to watch videos on it, the color screen looks wonderful.
However, you cannot watch long videos on it. On the first day I used it, it overheated, made an awful sound, and shut off. Even though I filled it with songs, most of them won't play. The software CD included is not so useful when it comes to converting song tracks into the proper format. When I first took this mp3player out of the box, I thought it looked very cheap--flimsy and soon-to-break. I still worry it'll get smashed in my pocket.
And the speaker, the one determining feature that swayed me towards this purchase, isn't loud enough. The sound comes from the jack where you plug in your headphones. It's loud enough if you're sitting in a quiet room on a quiet night when no creatures are stirring. But that is rarely the case.

Not so bad.

Sometimes, after you plug it out after charging from the USB, it is not turned on for some reason. And you have to plug it once again, to startle. Apart from this, when you are watching a video, looking directly into the screen is not the best angle, that's real weird. There should be some elevation for a better and lighter view. I guess it would be better to pay a bit more and get a better brand. The battery life is not at its best and the earphones are really bad, you should get a new pair. Its cable is kind of short and they don't fit well.

What a pain

You get what you pay for I guess. It has great picture quality and awesome sound, when it works that is. Listening to music the battery only lasted about three hours. The button locations and operations are a real pain. Why so many steps necessary just to turn it ON and OFF? The old addage stands true here, "if the price sounds to good to be true then it probably is".

The NEXTAR MA909-801 8gb mp3 player is an exellent buy. My initial experience with it was suspect. But once I got used to the quirky controls and navigating through the device all was fine. For me the best feauture is the "bass" setting under MSEQ in the EQ Mode. Unbelievable! Instant Sub-Lows. Yeah Baby! The battery life is ok. I love the fact that I am able to connect my USB charger (seperate purchase) and still use the unit. I have not been able to find a charger for the car, but, if it is out there I will find it. Be careful around dust and areas with lint (my pocket) because the lint gets inside the unit and is impossible to get out and makes the unit hard to read in daylight. I am very pleased with my Nextar and use it more then my 16 gb SansaView and 16 gb iPodTouch! All three have great features that should be combined to make the ULTIMATE mp3 player.
