I’ve got an awesome dash cam and I think this is a must-have! The 622GW bundle is a major upgrade to any dash cam system you may have. Out of the box you can expect 3 boxes; one for your front-facing camera, one for your rear window camera, and the last is your hardwire kit. Also included is a 32GB U3 micro SD card. Everything you need to add safety and recording to your vehicle. The front camera is a great compact size, small enough to completely vanish from your view as you focus on the road ahead. To make everything simple and easy, there is a 3” touchscreen on the back of the camera, eliminating multiple buttons to press on/around the camera. Let me pause here, my first gripe came immediately while simply handling the camera before installing it. On the front of the camera there is a small door/cover for the click&go attachment mount. While simply rotating the camera in my hand, the door slips off; no pressure or anything, it just came off. I think this can cause a problem for anyone who may remove their camera fairly often as the opening has exposed metal prongs and what appears to be a small battery. I’ll move on. The rear camera is definitely smaller, a sphere which attached to the window mount via a magnetic connection….a pretty strong connection I might add. Ok, gripe #2. Disclaimer, this may just be my own bad luck. The hardwire kit includes a power cable, multiple 2 amp fuses, multiple fuse tap cables, and a ferrite core. While getting to the installation portion, the instructions state that I need to remove a fuse and insert it into the tap fuse. But, I noticed the multiple fuse tap wires included in the kit are too big for my fuse. My cars fuse simply does not fit, completely different shape and size. Now I’m frantic, fumbling through the website for support, troubleshooting, etc. After a trip down Google lane, I found that I have a mini low profile fuse, and no fuse tap to match it unless I purchase one. Well, don’t make the same mistake I made without paying attention to all the boxes. There’s also a 12v power cable included. Yes, shame on me lol. Installation was absolutely a breeze. Before testing out the camera, I downloaded the app, paired it with the camera, and I was ready to go. No issues during the pairing process, only a firmware update. During my first ride with the camera I was thoroughly impressed with the built in image stabilization. The roads in my city have pretty bad potholes so seeing the image remain super steady with this camera is great! What really grabbed my attention was the immediate trial of recording and playing back the video. You can edit the video on the camera directly! This is very convenient as you may need to get the proper footage in the best form immediately. Next I tested out the Alexa function. The camera was very responsive and seamless in understanding my words. I also love the driver assistance options. You have the ability to utilize your rear cam as a reversing camera. You have emergency SOS which can be paired with phone to automatically call emergency services in an accident. You have the option to change the recording resolution, exposure, video length, whether or not you want to record audio, time stamp, speed stamp, gps stamp, model stamp, and what I think is pretty cool is dual files (hi quality & lo quality), time lapse, G sensor sensitivity level, image stabilization and extreme weather options. Overall, the camera is super easy to setup, is very friendly, and gives you full control of recording what happens around your vehicle while you commute. If you want safety with ease, this is definitely the camera for you!

When asked to review this product, I had already installed a Rove R2-4K Dual in my car, so I had some experience with installing one. I installed this camera in a 2024 Subaru Forester. My package included the rear camera, hard wiring package, and a 32GB SD card. I will note that my Rove came with a 128GB SD card. The camera fit well behind the rear view mirror, directly below the Eyesight cameras that Subaru has in their cars. Since it's behind the mirror, it's not really viewable while driving, and it really shouldn't be as it would be a distraction. The base attached firmly to the windshield with the adhesive tape mount (my Rove has a suction cup mount, but it takes much more space). The power wire connects to the base and passes power to the camera through the magnetic attachment. The rear camera still connects directly to the camera, so if you remove the camera you must still unplug the rear camera cable. The two wires were easy to tuck into the trim around the windshield (this might vary on different cars). I ran the power under the dash to the 12v accessory jack (what we used to call the cigarette lighter). The car's driver preferred using it this way rather than hard wiring the camera to the car. In the Subaru, this power is only on when the car is started, so the camera does not drain the battery when parked. The cable to the rear camera I ran down along the floor, through the trim pieces, into the rear hatch area. The length was about perfect for this car, so I didn't need to bundle any excess cable (like I did with the power cable). However, a longer car might need a cable extension. Positioning the camera using the phone app allowed me to aim them easily. The image quality looks very good. Normal viewing on the camera's screen is the forward camera as the main image, then a smaller window showing the rear camera. Touching the rear image makes it full screen, and then it can be switched back. Oh yes, the app. The install told us to download the MyNextbase app, but when you try to link it to the camera it says you need a different app (which it links). However, once you download that app and complete the setup, then you must again use the MyNextbase app to actually control the camera. And that's where the app is a bit of a pain to use. The camera initially uses Bluetooth to connect to the app, and it happens very quickly. You can make all the adjustments to the camera and recording settings now. But to view the realtime video, you have to connect the app via WiFi, and here's where I had problems. Multiple times I had to close the app and reopen it again before it would connect to the camera's WiFi. Even when it works perfectly, it still takes far too long to locate and connect. Once it's finally connected, you get the front camera image, and a small icon at the bottom right for switching to the rear camera. Touching this icon switches the view immediately, but again on multiple occasions I only ended up with a black screen. Fortunately, none of these app issues cause a problem with the camera's recording functions, and every recording is available on the app for download. The only reason I give this four stars is the app issues. The camera and recording functions are just fine. For the price, I think they should provide a larger SD card, though.

      Hello,

Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful review, we're glad to hear the installation went smoothly and that you're happy with the camera’s image quality and core recording performance.

We appreciate your honest feedback regarding the app experience and SD card size. You're right app connectivity should be more seamless, and your comments help us continue improving that side of the experience. We'll also be sure to pass along your note about the SD card capacity to our team, especially as we know many customers are using 4K recording regularly.

It's great to hear that the dash cam itself is performing reliably and delivering the protection and quality you expect. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience with us!

The Nextbase 622XR bundle is a perfect way to start using a dash cam in your vehicle. It includes everything you need to get started: a 32 GB micro SD card, a front-facing dash cam, and a window-mounted rear camera. It also includes a fuse hardwiring kit that allows the camera to be installed in your vehicle.   With a 4K 30 frames per second resolution, you will be blown away by the footage from the cameras. The 3-inch touch screen is very nice. You can easily access your footage with the Nextbase app, which is really cool. So, you can save and share footage without going to an actual PC. For connectivity, it has Bluetooth 5.0 and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The GPS is 10 GB, which moves very quickly and responsively. The parking mode safeguards your vehicle while you're away. I also checked on the website, and they have a cabin to which you can add a camera, which was also cool. I might look into that at a later date. To sum it up, if you're looking for a very nice dash cam package with image stabilization and remote functions through an app, check this out.

One of the better dash cams!

Unfortunately, it seems dash cams are a huge must in today's world, especially to help reduce/remove your liability if a situation occurs. And after one of our sons was recently in an accident (in a fun traffic circle), where the other driver was very insistent that my son was in the wrong, the dash cam footage left no doubt that he was not at fault. While I have had dash cams in my vehicle for 7 years now, and have footage of way too many close calls, that accident finally validated my point with my wife that we will always have dash cams in our vehicles, and she is in total agreement. When it comes to dash cams, there are so many brands and formats/designs to choose from. I've used 3 different brands, and by far, the Nextbase ones have been my favorite. Starting with a 320XR and then adding a 522GW. Unfortunately, we did start having trouble with the 320XR one my son was using (probably way too many days being out in the hot Texas sun), so we were needing a replacement in the family. I decided to go with an upgraded 4K resolution and felt the newer 622GW would be great to go ho with. One of the many things I like about Nextbase dash cams is their standard powered mount design (Click&Go Pro), which allows any of their models to be installed on it. With the power connecting to the mount instead of the dash cam itself allow it to be removed (with a little extra effort due to the strong magnet that holds it in place) to connect to a TV (through the Mini HDMI port, which is also used to connect the rear camera) or to your computer (through the mini USB), For me, I find it a little bit easier to pop out the microSD card and plug it into a card reader (just be careful when putting the card back in as will launch it across the car if it doesn't get clicked in place). The 622GW comes with their Click&Go Pro GPS mount to provide the GPS data. The screen is a 3" HD IPS touch screen and has only two non-touchscreen buttons: power and protect video. Be sure to check the microSD card specs that will be used. It needs at least a Class 10, but it will need to be U3 in order to use a rear camera if you decide to purchase one. It comes with an extra full pad mount (which the Click&Go Pro mount attaches to), which would allow having a pad mount in two vehicles, and can switch the Click&Go Pro mount and camera between the vehicles as necessary. The Rear Camera that is included is a decently sized sphere that is also attached to a strong magnetic mount (different design than the front). The main front camera has a 140º Wide-angle lens. The top resolution is 4K (3840 x 2160) @ 30fps, 1440p (2160 x 1440) @ 60fps. The final option is 1080P/120fps. With the 4K setting it does provide better image details when pausing compared with my 522GW at 1440p but still isn’t quite extremely smooth looking while playing the video. Unfortunately, even with 4K, it still won't get a visible shot of a license plate unless it is really close to the vehicle. I'm still not sure on which resolution I will keep it at, but not matter what resolution is used, it should still provide enough details of any incident. For the file sizes, at 2 minutes (which can be set at 1, 2, or 3 minutes in length), the 4K file is 400MB to 650MB. There is also a setting to have it record a lower-resolution video file in addition to the main file (Dual File mode), which is recorded at 480P/30fps. That is required if you want to view recordings when connected via the phone app. It does handle driving in the direction of the sun quite well, especially with the help of the polarizing lens filter. There isn't as much glare and can still the other vehicles and surroundings clearly. Night videos are not as grainy as my other dash cam, but with the less lighting, most of the objects around moving past (such as street signs) are fairly blurry. The Rear Camera records at 1080p. While not 4K, it will still help with providing details of anything that happens behind the vehicle. With the 128GB card, with the rear camera not recording, but with Dual File turned on, it will only be able to keep a 5, maybe 6-7 hours-worth of recordings (maybe 315 High and Low quality files), so be sure to get any videos copied off as soon as possible. One feature it has is Intelligent Parking Mode, where it will record a 30 second video if it detects physical movement of the vehicle, and will go back into standby after 5 minutes of no additional movement. With its G Force sensor using a very low amount of power, it is mentioned that it can remain active on battery for possibly over a week. Even with that, it is probably recommended to install a hard-wire kit if using the parking mode as it will turn off the parking mode when the battery is drained to 11.2V. The 622GW has built-in Wi-Fi (to allow managing, viewing, and downloading video files directly to your phone through the MyNextBase Connect app) and low-power Bluetooth (needed for MyNextBase app and/or Alexa connectivity). With the Alexa capability that is included, it will use your phone's active audio output (such as bluetooth or AUX cable to your car speakers) for response. For the dash cam related features, you can ask Alexa to stop or start recording, protect a recording, or send a recording to your phone. The Wi-Fi downloading feature is nice to have, but it does take quite a while to download the large files to the phone. As I mentioned earlier, I normally bring in the microSD card when necessary to copy the video files I want to save. A safety feature that is also available is Emergency SOS. When enabled and set up, If it detects a crash (by the way, a low-speed incident will not activate this), it will start a 2-minute timer. If the time isn't canceled (by tapping the "I'm OK" button on the phone), it will send your personal and medical Information (that you have configured) to Emergency Services (not sure what exactly that entails in the US, though) through the MyNextBase app on your phone. The PC app, MyNextBase Player, is a nice little app that retrieves all the data stored (GPS, compass and shock sensor data, if those are turned on in the settings in the dash cam) and displays the "realtime" data as you watch your video. It also shows the route taken along with an indicator of the current position in the video while the video is being played in your choice of map application (Google Maps or OpenStreet Maps). You can also click on a point on the route in the map, and the player will automatically go to that point in the video (nice feature if you are looking for something specific and you know around where it was in your drive). The app also has Snapshot, video editing (including trimming and annotating) and video sharing (uploading to MyNextbase Cloud or YouTube) capabilities. You will also be able to update dash cam firmware from the app (I was propmted to update the firmware the first time I connected). The only issue I have with the PC app is that you have to manually add a video to the list to be able to play. I would prefer that it monitors specified folder(s) for available videos to play. There are accessories that can be purchased separately, such as rear-view (cabin) cameras. While possibly any dash cam would do, I think this 4K dash cam is definitely great and one that should be considered!
