Just shy of Ghibli quality, this tale is for wide eyed romantics and dreamers alike. FYI your child probably wont sit through it as it is more of a mature teen young adult story.

My husband got this thinking it was. Miyazaki film. Although the art is similar to the ones he uses it is definitely a different writer. This movie was very interesting but the jumps and hints are subtle and you may feel lost until you get to the ending. May need a few watching a for some but I would watch it all over again to see the magic and beautiful artistry.

A very spiritual metaphorical animated movie. Has both Japanese and English.

Pop this movie in if you want to get lost on an adventure. The colors, man. The colors...

Hard to endure. Film is slow and lacking in both drama and action. Story is based on Japanese writing nearly a century old; this is NOT Studio Ghibi! Today's "Pixar" generation would have trouble sitting through it. Buy a Miyazaki film instead :)

The cover said 'Japan's most beloved children's book is now a hauntingly beautiful feature film'. I have watched quite a few anime's and this was one of the most depressing films I have ever seen. It doesn't really resonate with any deeper meaning that I can see (research said that it was a theme of what is true happiness, and self-sacrifice) and is just a sad story of a lonely cat who's only friend dies in the end. I would not recommend this movie to anyone.
