Great but some issues with bluetooth
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the video quality but the two sound is a miss. The siren is nice and the wifi connection is rock solid but the Bluetooth is a bit off but still robust enough to use. Install was easy since it is wifi and Bluetooth made setup even easier. Love the massive storage and no subscription cloud service is a super plus. The dual spots lights are pretty powerful. The cameras and NVR are pretty solid built and easy to mount. The most difficult item was finding power out near enough to use without running long lengths of wires.

Plenty of Useful Features and Great Image
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Placing the cameras was not so easy even with some experience that I’ve acquired with this type of security system. The issue is that the wireless part is for WiFi streaming only. You still need a power source. I had installed a similar one before and run the cables but this time I wanted a little far away from the original place. Apart from that, setting it up was easy. No need to use a monitor or TV, just their app, thanks to the Bluetooth connectivity. I ended up connecting it to my TV, but it is optional. Speaking of WiFi, be aware that it uses its own WiFi to connect back to the NVR. This is not your home WiFi. That means that it is dedicated and other than possible interferences, you don’t have to worry about it. The NVR needs to be connected to your router with an ethernet cable. Using my Google Hub, I was able to tell it to stream from any one of the cameras directly to it to my Hisense TV. It worked every single time. The image quality on a 75-inch 4K was just crystal clear, with popping colors. Gone are the days of fuzzy videos that wouldn’t help much if you had to give them to law enforcement. This Night Owl camera will revel even birth marks that have been removed. I don’t think I’m exaggerating here. If I am, it’s not by much. Image is really that good even under low light conditions. Not so exclusive to Night Owl, but it is nice to see they don’t lack anything here. The only issue is that it seems fixed to about 15 fps but for a security camera, that’s not an issue to me. Like many newer security systems of this type, its 2-way audio is just okay but it’s good to have. One thing that was new to me was the pre-set voice alerts. It’s more useful than it seems. The siren is not anything new either, but it is also a nice feature. The built-in flood lights are much brighter than other cameras I’ve tried, except one, which is actually a floodlight with camera. Facial recognition is great for a modern security system, and it has it. Again, I found all features useful. One last thing to consider is that this is U.S. made. Many have heard about serious criminal spying issues with some Chinese cameras commonly sold in the U.S. That’s not the case here. I hope it is not being used to spy on us but at least it wouldn’t be some foreign country. Also, the videos are recorded locally to its built-in 1TB drive with no need of a subscription. I would have given it 5 stars if it had a battery option, even if sold as an add-on but I would still recommend it.

Night Owl 4K UHD
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I installed the system as per the quick start guide. Up to the point it told me to download the app to continue the installation. From here things went downhill quickly. It stated I had to turn off mobile data to continue. I turned it off and continued the installation. The DVR kept turning off during the install. After updating the firmware, we had a problem with the network installation. As above it could not find the network. After repeated tries I was about to give up when I turned the WI-FI back on it installed the network. We had a problem with the finding cameras. It found the only camera I had plugged in quickly, but it kept searching for more cameras. After 10 minutes I gave up and restarted. It again found the only camera quickly but kept scanning for additional cameras. I gave it another 10 minutes. I finally clicked on the camera it found. We went into the setup of the camera. There was no activity on the screen for 10 minutes. I backed out and retried, after 7 more minutes the camera started talking and said it was installed. There was nothing on the screen indicating it was installed. The color from the camera is excellent. The talk thru was muffled and not clear. You can interact with the system from either the unit itself or the App. Playback is simple from the console. You can transfer video to an USB drive. All in all, the system works ok, I have a hard time with the interface and the set up. I would not recommend this security system to family and friends.

So much easier to install!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Home security is one of the most important things in life. When I bought my home, I immediately installed cameras around my home. this was over six years ago. Needless to say, the video quality and installation was far more time consuming. The Night Owl - 10 Channel Bluetooth Wi-Fi NVR system changes everything. You no longer have to run a ton of wires through your attic and into your home with this device. Not only that, but you get 4k video quality! This was a very simple installation than my old video surveillance system, and although you do need to run a power wire to the cameras, it is SO MUCH easier to than to run all of the extra wiring. This Night Owl - 10 Channel Bluetooth Wi-Fi NVR system replaced an older Night Owl camera system. I love the video quality and the ease of installation. It is also a very reliable system. I have yet to have any trouble connecting to my system, which was another concern of mine. If you are looking into adding a video surveillance system to your home or business, I would definitely recommend the Night Owl - 10 Channel Bluetooth Wi-Fi NVR system.

Solid WiFi NVR for home security
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This NVR is an overall solid machine that's heavily focused on privacy. It also offers solid security with excellent video quality both day and night time. When purchasing this system a key thing to keep in mind is where you want to place the 4 wireless cameras and where you can get to power to plug power in for them easily. They come with power cords that are about 9 feet long but when using them outside, you might not have a plug nearby so you'll have to find extension cables online if you run into this issue as I did. That said, it's far easier to run and hide the power cord than it is to run the cord through walls to the NVR box as you would with other wired systems! I was actually surprised to learn when setting this system up that it supports more than the 4 cameras it comes with which is another bonus to consider when looking at this system! For the setup, it's really very easy, and anyone should be able to do it without any professional help. Pairing cameras is easy and doesn't require you to have the NVR setup with a TV or monitor which is a huge improvement over other similar systems. For the cameras themselves, they look good and work great! The picture quality is excellent and the mounts make it easy to position them the way you want. The WiFi signal works good for my home and they were all able to connect. My only complaint so far is there is a lot of lag in time between what you see on the app in live mode vs what is happening live. A feature is that you should be able to have two-way audio and while it does work, the lag that you get with it being WiFi and using it on your phone makes it impractical to use in that manner. There are many factors that could cause this issue and it could be just my setup - everything from how far the cameras are from the NVR to your internet speed, network setup, phone carrier when accessing it remotely and so on. I will say there's even a some lag when using it locally when using it with Google Home to view on a TV/Home Speaker with display - it works but the lag is noticeable. That said, even my Google Nest doorbell camera has some lag too so it likely it's just because they are wireless. For the NVR itself, I like that it works with Google Home and the app and interface works actually quite well. The smart detection features work fairly well but I wouldn't say it's perfect and like most systems you can customize how the system records based on detection events and so on. The spotlights work great too and are a good alternative to have to motion lights in the back yard. I have a Google doorbell and it's actually better at identifying people with packages and cars than this system is but unlike this system it requires a paid subscription and transmits video to the internet for recording/analysis. That said, the smart identification does work surprisingly well and the Google system is far from perfect and missed packages/people all the time too (which is frustrating because it's a PAID service). In terms of privacy and security, I think this system is top notch. No other system I have or have tried records and analyzes events locally and requires two factor authentication to access it. Just as important, you get a good system with lots of storage for video that's private and doesn't cost anything in terms of subscription fees. I would definitely consider this system over many others like Arlo, Amazon Ring, and the Google Nest cameras because of privacy and the fact there are no monthly fees with basically some of the same features. I didn't know it until setting this system up but Night Owl does have a doorbell so I am actually considering ditching my Google Nest doorbell for a Night Owl doorbell to have it all in the same system with NO FEES and better privacy. I'd definitely recommend this system, it's been by far the easiest to setup out of any that I have setup, and some of the security features like 2FA (two factor authentication) make it a winner.

Posted .Thank you very much for the detailed feedback. We are so happy to hear the product is meeting your expectations and performing well. Regrading the lag time you are experiencing, as you noted, there are several factors that could be at play. The more obstacles between the cameras and Wi-Fi NVR, the more reduced the signal strength will be and the more lag you may experience. Additionally, lower Internet speeds can cause lags. Also, the number of smart devices you have on your network may be causing a lag. This system is defaulted to Wi-Fi channel 11, but if there is too much existing traffic on that channel, it can be switched. Please feel free to contact our support staff at NightOwlSP.com at your convenience, and one of our agents will gladly troubleshoot with you. Thank you for choosing Night Owl!

Connection issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I probably would have given this system a 5 star review if they would stay connected. The connection is all over the place. Anywhere from full connection to no connection in a matter of seconds. It all over the place. The only time they are fully connected is at night. I don’t get it. I’ll try moving the box and antenna extensions but I think I Shiite have gone with the old fashioned plug in style. We’ll see. Other than that, the view and sounds is good.

Great surveillance system!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great surveillance system! When I received this system through the mail, I originally thought that it was wireless, but mine has wired cameras instead of the wireless. The good thing is if I decide to get wireless cameras, they are completely compatible with this system! The set-up was easy, basically plug and play. What was difficult was getting the app to work correctly on my cell phone. If you can't get the app to work correctly, you can use the included HDMI cable and connect to a computer monitor. You can use the phone app to look at each of your cameras while away from home. The cameras show nice and crisp pictures, even at night! Highly recommend!

Night Owl security system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are two different apps you must choose between to install the night owl. The instructions failed to mention this and the QR code would not direct to the app to use. It took a call to support which was excellent. The support rep walked me through to download the night owl Protect app. Once i had it installed my phone recognized the dvr and the cameras and i proceeded. The camera keeps going off through out the day for false alerts. I am going to continue tweaking to see if i can get it to respond correctly. Our dog has been in a kennel all week and no one has been home except in the evening.

Posted .Hi Pauliff. There is only 1 app for this system which is listed in the Quick Setup Guide that you received with your product. There are multiple apps in the Apple Store and Google Play Store as we have a wide range of products to choose from. But this system uses Night Owl Protect, again as is listed in the Quick Setup Guide, your product support page and your product manual. We are sorry to hear there was some initial confusion but glad you got it figured out with a call to support. Thank you for choosing Night Owl!

Great home security for peace of mind
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Night Owl setup is a really nice addition to our home security and my personal peace of mind. Upon unpacking these cams I immediately noted their sturdiness and could feel in my hands that they were solid and well made. This seems important as they will mostly be mounted outside to face the elements 24/7. The NVR box is quite solid as well but conveniently small size to fit wherever you'd like to set it up. NVR system can handle up to 10 cams but comes with 4, making the 1 TB hard drive sufficient enough. You can add 6 additional cams to the mix if you choose but realize these will need to be purchased as extras and each additional camera will reduce the total amount of record time you'll be able to go back to on your playback. More camera feeds equals more data used per minute/hour/day of recording. Setup was phenomenally simple with the included smartphone/ipad app. Allows you to connect and complete the entire setup without connecting a tv or monitor to see your video streams, it just goes straight to your phone which makes this so easy to place the NVR literally anywhere that is convenient for you. Along with this is the NO FEES AND NO SUBSCRIPTIONS to store and record footage. So many of these systems these days require monthly charges to keep yourself safe but not this one. Spotlight features to the cams is nice too if you're not just looking to view things at night but actually deter the bad things from happening. Really nice all around security camera package and I couldn't be happier. Would definitely recommend to a friend of family member.

Just not there yet.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, performance is poor. App is slow with plenty of upload and download speed. The whole system is not as described in their home page. I would like to return this package back to best buy. I have tried everything night owl describes in their directions. Spent most of my time trying to plc cams. in different areas. Very disappointed with product, plus out the premium price night owl wanted. I would not trust this system with your personal security.

Do not purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.System doesn't show recordings in anything but zoomed in view. Worked great at first but after my phone updated to the newest version of Android, playback can only be viewed on zoomed view which makes it useless. Apparently Night Owl states that their techs are working on the issue but it's been over a month and it looks like they are in no rush to resolve the issue so unless you have an Apple or an outdated Android don't bother with it.
