The install is fairly straightforward both from the software and the actual install at the door (as long as you already have a wired doorbell). The camera, for the price works good on both the day and night function. A good point, on it is that it has an sd card that actually records what goes on and you dont have to pay for a subscription. The bad part is that there is no way to stop it from giving false notifications. If a breeze comes along and moves a plant or a tree branch that's enough to cause it to give a notification and even setting it's sensitivity on the lowest setting it doesnt stop it from happening. It drove my wife and I crazy to the point that before two weeks I had to take it down and return it and pay a bit more for one that has a thermal sensor as well as a motion sensor so it can differentiate from a plant and a person moving. However now I have to pay for a monitoring service if I want to know what happened when I get a notice of motion around my front door and it's already passed by the time I open the app.
Because of all the false notifications I wouldn't recommend it. however if you can live with the thing going off every five minutes or less its not a bad deal.

We bought this for our front door but we have a small tree to the sode of our porch, while the camera is good and recording is useful its super sensitive and pick up motion when the wind is blowing the tree. Notifications are constant on the phone on windy days. Install and the app are easy to use.

This is a good doorbell. It wires in to the house electricity so no batteries to worry about. The camera gives a good picture of the area in front of the door. The interface on the app is very easy to use and the included memory card makes it easy to go back and see past activities at the door. Also, it works with the Google Assistant, and Night Owl has indicated there should be more interaction with Google Assistant in the future. I am pleased with my Night Owl doorbell.

Overall a nice easy to set up doorbell. I just wish I could cross out some motion from high trees motion sensor not pir. Picture is perfectly clear. No issues at all.

For the price, this is an entry level doorbell camera. It has worked pretty well, picking up people walking up to my door. Video is decent and the sound is good. My biggest problem is with the SD card. The app recognizes the card for a few weeks the suddenly you can't see any videos without warning. I had to take of the security cover, and re- inserrt the SD card for it to work again. This is a hassle every few weeks. My only other option is to pay the cloud service. If i wanted to do that I could have bought a different brand doorbell camera.

I received this doorbell as a Christmas gift and connected it on December 28, 2018. On January 2, 2019, I noticed the date read 01/01/1970. The live camera was still working, but I could not return to any previous recordings, and I never got notifications when motion passed by the camera itself. When I rang the doorbell, the audio/video to communicate with whoever was at the door did not work. I contacted customer service twice. The first time I was told to sign out of the app, reset my router, and log back in. This customer service rep told me this would fix the issue. It didn’t. I reached back out to customer service. Explained I was still experiencing the same issue as listed above. The second customer service representative advised me to run a bandwidth test on my modem. And afterwards, told me that my upload speed was too slow. I was told I needed to have at least 4 MB per second uplaod speed. This infuriated me a little bit. It worked for about five days, and then just stopped with the issue listed above. A date Referencing back to 1970 should have nothing to do with upload speed. I decided to try to rectify the issue myself. I hit the reset button on the side of the doorbell, and re-setup the doorbell in it’s entirety on 01/02/2019. It seems to be working right now (01/04/2019). And this is about two days after being told about the upload speed. I attempted to research the required 4 MB upload speed needed for the doorbell, and on Night Owl’s website, it reads a disclaimer that you need to have at least 2 MB per second upload speed. Which, when a band width test was conducted, showed 2.3 sustained. Not great, but what the company proclaims is required. When the doorbell works, it works as expected. I HAVE had hang-ups in connection through the app, and I’m not sure if this is software or hardware related. Only time will tell whether this doorbell holds up. But for the price I paid, if I have to go with another company or brand, it won’t be a great loss. At the very least, it will be a deterrent to thieves who try to steal packages when they see there is a doorbell camera on the house.

Regarding the connection issues you may still be experiencing, yes you are correct regarding the required upload speeds we recommend is 2 Mbps for upload speed for the best connection possible. Also, when attempting to connect to the Night Owl Doorbell we suggest using a reliable Wi-Fi connection. Please do keep I mind that even with the 2 Mbps you may lose connection since the connection may be shared with multiple devices within your network, this will make the bandwidth to be shared with the other devices and lower the quality of the stream from the doorbell. Good Doorbell but

Images are stored on the SD card within the doorbell. You have to remove the cover from the doorbell, remove the card, and upload to your computer which is a pain. I would give it 5 stars if the stored video could be accessed wirelessly.

I purchased this because I didn’t want to pay $250 for a wired ring. Batteries was something I didn’t care to keep dealing with. Night owl install and setup was super easy and with a good Wi-Fi signal and upload speed, it works flawlessly. I would definitely recommend this. Please note it only connects to 2.4 wireless band.

Paid for monthly subscription but didn’t work and won’t refund the 2 months because they only send CQ in USA and won’t bank transfer back. Keeps crashing and have to delete app and re-install. Now loosing internet and offline. Waste of money

Useless because of false motion alerts

I live close to the street and I get a motion alert sent to my phone every 5 minutes. It would be okay if I could turn off the motion alerts and get an alert when someone actually rings the doorbell, but you can't turn off the motion alerts without disabling everything. It takes 20 minutes to talk to someone in the support office also. An email address where you could ask a question and have them to answer at their convenience would be great also.
