This is a Russian film loosely based on the Sergei Lukyanenko novel of the same name. There are some pretty cool actions scenes in the film, although the plot can be a little confusing and may require a second or third watching to pick up all the little details. But that's not a bad thing, as it's an entertaining watch. I can't speak to the quality of the adaptation, as I've not read the original novel. It is on my shelf though, having just been re-released in the US alongside the 3 follow-up novels. Fans of weird sci-fi/fantasy action films will enjoy this, but you have to go into it with an open mind.

Terribly morbid movie. The tempo is slow. The tone is dark without anything to gain your interest. The only good thing is the translation into English is top notch.

The movie along with DAY WATCH are great for people with open minds, must see to understand!!!

Having seen this film of DVD years ago, I remember salivating over the graphics and wishing they would re-release this on Blu-Ray. My wishes were answered! If you are a fan of foreign films, this is an overlooked title that should be added to your collection.

I highly recommend this movie to anyone that loves amazing action and really cool effects!

This movie is in Russian and you have to read subtitles the whole way through. But it's a good storyline.

Timur Bekmambetov's adaptation of Sergei Lukyanenko's Night Watch--or rather, part of Night Watch--is a really neat looking Russian movie that has pretty good acting and, at first glance, an intriguing story. And then you watch it again. And upon the second viewing it just seems to be a sadly thrown together hodge-podge of ridiculous action sequences and people screaming. The filmmakers seemed to take the basic idea of the world in which Sergei Lukyanenko's books are set and the names of most of the characters and then run wild making their own story. The first time I saw it it seemed OK, then the next time it wasn't so much OK. Ultimately, if you have no interest in ever reading the books, and are interested more in really crazy visual work than in a story that doesn't seem unnecessary by the time you reach the end, then this would be a good choice for you.

So, you may not know, but this movie is based on a best selling novel in Russia. It has a lot of interesting stuff going on, but the story is really a tribute to the "good fight." You know, good vs. bad, or in this case light vs. dark. If you like budget conscious foreign films, and you like vampires, you might be intrigued by this flick. Personally, however, I found the book vastly more entertaining. Also if you like movies that have sequels, this one has one called Day Watch.

This movie was a great addition to my collection!! This wasn't your average ordinary vampire flick with blood & gore everywhere, but it was a good action flick with great special effects!! If you liked the movie Wanted with Angelina Jolie, then you'll appreciate this one case it's directed by the same man.

I've really liked this movie since I saw it a few years ago. The logic of the story is a little skewed, and it's very different from the book. But definitely worth watching!
