Customers are saying

Customers value the impressive zoom capabilities and excellent image quality of the AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm lens. They also appreciate its ease of use, and many find the lens to be lightweight and versatile. While some find the size a bit large for portability, the positive feedback on image quality and zoom range outweighs this concern for most users.

    Great Lens

This lens weighs a fraction of what my Nikon 80-400 weighs, and it does just about everything that lens will do. On a DX body ( I have a D200.) it is the equivelant of about an 80-450 zoom on a 35mm or FX format camera. It could be faster, but not in a lens of this size & weight, and certainly not at $400. Not form Nikon anyway. Picture quality is excellent. A great value.

    Great Zoom Lens

I wanted to get a good zoom lens for my nikon D3000. I rented a 55-200mm lens and a 55-300mm lens. The 55-200mm lens worked great, but did not get me the distance that I wanted. The 55-300mm lens did the job for me. I love the fact that I can zoom in on wildlife and sports scenes with great clearity. I got the lens on sale which made a plus on the offerdability side and made the price difference between the 55-200 and the 55-300 closer. I would recommend spending the little extra money for the longer zoom. The 300mm took a little while to get the manual focus down when zoomed out all of the way. The auto focus is a little slow for sports action shots. I wish that it had a lower F stop, but who doesn't. When zooming out the lens sticks a little, but should get better the more it is used. The lens takes clear, quality pictures. The shots I got from a sports outing are great, especially considering that I was about 25 yards from the action. I am pleased with performance of the lens and would recommend this this to anyone who is looking into getting a zoom lens for the camera.

    Terrific addition to the D7000

The lens was purchased with the D7000. At 300mm, we are able to produce surprisingly sharp pictures without the need for a tripod. The versatility of a 55-300mm lens makes this our favorite. We are very pleased with this lens.

This lens is ideal for everyday use. The focus is quick and quiet, and the range is excellent. Bokeh is predictable and the image doesnt appear to have any sign of unusual distortion, even at wide angles. This lens very quickly replaced my 35-70mm as the default on my set up. I wish I had the cash for a super-telephoto, but this is a great buy none the less. It comes with a round hood which clips onto the lens itself which is nice. While its a bit heavier than other 300mm's Ive used in the past, it's not to bad. I got this lens on sale for $249, and I would say at that price, this is a steal

It really is a very good lens; if you're into taking landscape photos, this is a must-have. I did a lot of traveling this year and even though I wasn't too excited about carrying it around in my bag because it's huge and heavy, the photo quality paid off. I definitely had to bring it along because it captures great, sharp photos and has amazing zoom.

    This Lens is Insane!

This lens gives you those zoom in shots that make you feel like a pro. Even if I can't get the super zoom across a stadium, I can crop the picture without loosing quality @ 13 Mega Pixel. Easy to change, Lens steadying devise works GREAT! The only negative would be you should buy at least a UV filter before you even get this out of the box to protect it, and your camera's image sensor (Think of it as sunscreen for your camera)

I bought this lens for a trip to Africa. I have just returned with over 1200 pictures taken under less than ideal circumstances. This lens and Nikkon D3100 camera did an outstanding job. Pictures taken from a moving vehicle over extreme washboard roads came out as well as those taken when stopped. I am a beginner with an SLR camera so everything needed to be easy and automatic. This lens satisfied those requirements.

Great lens for the price! Could basically be used as an all-in-one! It takes awesome photos! Image quality is superb! Just like any Nikkor lens with the Vibration Reduction! Very easy to use. Little heavy but worth the price paid.

I bought this lens when it was on sale with a $150 discount (thanks Best Buy!). Took it out to take photos at a kart race and was able to take some really great pictures with my D3100. I could use it at full zoom while holding in my hand and got really sharp results (no shake blur). The colors were also really spectacular and focus speed was sufficient to track karts as thy passed at high speeds. Really a great lens - buy it, you will not regret it.

A great lens if you're not close, the minimum distance from the subject is about 3 feet, it won't focus closer. The anti-vibration feature is excellent. The lens is light starved often causing a camera in full AUTO to fail to shoot because it determines insufficient light. The images that are captured are excellent. A great value for a slow lens with excellent zoom.

this lens i bought 3 weeks ago and it is amazing. the zoom is great and the autofocus and VR is unbelievable. i would recommend getting a 18-55 as well as this because it is hard to take close up "macro" pictures with a 55-300 from short distances. however, for sports pictures and such, this lens is a must buy.

I am a hobby photographer but I am absolutely loving this lens! I actually received it as a present and it was not the lens I asked for, however I am so glad that he "got it wrong". I find it very easy to use, and the image quality is wonderful. I cannot yet speak for the durability, I have only had it for about a month and have making sure to really take care of it. So far I have absolutely no complaints.

I have owned several zoom lenses in the cheaper price range, and several in the upper price range.... This lens, while inexpensive, performs as well as some of my much more expensive lenses! The VR works very well, the images are crystal clear all the way out to the 300mm extension. This will be my go to lens for almost all of my outings!

Excellent lens for sporting events like football games ,baseball and much more. I am very happy with the picture quality and how much I can zoom in on the picture after picture is taken for a even closer shot.

Using the lens with my D7000, and it is a supurb cheap lens that comes with vibration reduction mode (VR) and provides excellent images. However, its manual focus is not the best and autofocus is somewhat slow, nor it is the best use for sports photography. Those issues can be rectify by owning the 70-300mm; if it is within your budget, but it just boils down to what you are using your camera/lens for. In addition, the focal point ring (barrel) will be stiff at first, but once you start using it more often, it will loosen up. For people who are just getting into DSLR, this is telephoto zoom lens is a good start.

Overall, I love this lens & I am so thankful I bought it. The pictures come out clear & beautiful. It's nice to be able to stand in the back of the room & get great shots without having to be down close to the stage! I tend to shake so I love the vibration control. All my shots come out great! It is easy to line up to get on or take off the camera. It is also easy to get on or off quickly if need be.

My daughter graduated from high school yesterday in a stadium full of visitors and students. By the time we arrived many of the seats were taken and we were forced to sit way in the back. But no worries, this product put us in the front row. we were all amazed of its clarity and focus.
