    Excellent Addition

The battery pack is an exceptional add on for the D300. Shooting at 8 FPS is a lot fun with sports and other fast action items. The best feature is the additional controls for shooting in portrait mode.

While I think the price is a tad steep for what amounts to a few switches it is quite the useful addition to anyone who picks up a D300s. The addition of a second shutter release makes portrait photos a breeze and helps keep the camera steady when held sideways. The extra heft that you get with it even adds inertial resistance to any shakes. Having the option to just throw in some AA batteries can be a godsend if you find yourself low on power, and no time to charge your batteries as you can just throw in more batteries from a gas station or out of your bag. They don't last nearly as long but it could be the difference between getting or missing a shot. All of the buttons on it do feel cheap compared to the ones on the D300. The directional button feels loose, the shutter button is soft and has a long travel to "Half depressed" and a shorter one to "full depressed" which can make framing a shot difficult.
