Great Entry Level DSLR

As I write this review, I have taken approximately 2000 shots and have put the D5600 and both kit lenses through most of the paces. I am an amateur photographer/videographer, exclusively using my gear for home/family work. My advice for anyone growing into this hobby is always get the most camera you are willing to bring with you. If its too heavy, too big, too complicated, too expensive, etc., you wont bring it with you and you will just be throwing away money.
The Nikon D5600 is the most camera I am willing to bring with me. The Canon T7i is a fantastic direct competitor as well, and you should give it serious consideration. At the end of the day, the T7i is slightly heavier, considerably less battery life, and more expensive. Although, it does have better autofocus, slightly faster fps burst, and in camera stabilization. Whichever you choose, they are both great overall entry level DSLR's. It comes down to what you value more. I highly value less weight and longer battery life, and the D5600 wins these categories. The Nikon D3400 and D7500 are also great choices if you simply must get Nikon. I found that the D3400 (and similar) is just missing too lacking in many features and capabilities vs the D5600. It is less weight and gets even more battery life, but they definitely cut corners on the D3400. Important corners. In fact, many cheaper and more convenient point and shoots can perform the same or better than the D3400, so why not just get something that fits in your pocket. The D7500 is better than the D5600, but again its what you value. Image quality and low light capability differences between those two are not far apart, and you would be splitting hairs to declare a winner. What you will get with the D7500 is faster fps burst with a deeper buffer, better autofocus, weather sealing, in camera focus drive (for older lenses), better shutter life expectancy, and a few other minor things. However, it is significantly heavier, double the cost, and less friendly view screen. Seasoned pro's could probably carry the D7500 just fine for hours on end. I was tired of holding it just after 15 mins. Ive carried the D5600 for 4 hours and not got tired. That means the D5600 comes with, and the D7500 does not.
After about 2000 shots and a few hours of video, I am loving my D5600. It has met or exceeded all my photography and videography expectations. And, I feel like I have room to grow with it, which is also important to me. No, it doesnt do 4k video. No, its not high bitrate. The video capabilities are for the occasional video, and its good enough for that. In find the photo capabilities to be outstanding for this price point. There are better cameras for photo, but not anywhere near this price point. I have attached two samples, since that is all BB lets you attach to reviews. These are with the 18-55VR and 70-300 (non-VR) kit lenses. The flower shot is not enhanced. The moon shot is minimally enhanced, because, well, the moon is very bright.
Speaking of the lenses, dont listen to the naysayers. The 18-55VR and 70-300 (non-VR) are both very capable and perfectly serviceable lenses. The 18-55VR is a no brainer, and you should absolutely get that one if you dont already have it. The 70-300 is not VR and that is a con in some situations. It is mostly a tripod lens, but that doesnt mean you cant get at least ok shots with it (see moon shot). The 55-200 VR is currently on sale around one fifty, you should consider that instead or in addition to the 70-300 non-VR. Yes, there are better lenses than these. However, they can get very expensive really quick. For the price of these three lens you cant go wrong.
In summary, this is a great entry level DSLR that rivals much more expensive cameras where it counts, yet is small and light enough that you will want to bring it with you all the time. Sure, it doesnt get 4k video. Its not going to get the low light capabilities of the full frames. It doesnt have ridiculously fast bursts with a buffer as deep as the ocean. As far as all around shooters go, however, you would be hard pressed to find this many features and capabilities in this small and light package, and anywhere near this price point (outside of the Canon T7i). Eventually, mirrorless interchangeable cameras may render the entry level DSLR obsolete, but that day is not today. If thats your thing, great. Have at it. Make sure to bring 3-4 extra batteries and a bucket of ice. If you don’t want to spend your day changing batteries and continually have to stop for the camera to cool down, the D5600 is a great choice for smaller and lighter.

Intuitive to use, great quality images, light weight and long battery life even in very cold outdoors weather. I would rate myself as an advanced user/photographer and no shortfalls here on features or benefits. Priced very reasonable with multiple lens.

I’ve had this camera for a couple weeks now and it has been fantastic! I used my girlfriend’s D5300 so I already had a handle on how it operates but it didn’t take long to get used to it. The kit lenses are surprisingly good and offer their own pros and cons, making it fun to switch back and forth. This camera came out a little while ago but with all of its features it’s honestly hard to tell, it has a touch screen, it can connect to your phone via Bluetooth to download pictures, or your phone can act as a viewfinder. It’s all very impressive to someone who is just getting into photography.

Attached is the 13th picture I took with this camera.
I'm getting back into photography and wanted something I could learn to use and one that was light to carry. This camera exceeds my expectations. The kit lenses are pretty darn good.
I've taken a number of candid (quick pull the camera out and snap a picture) shots that people have used for their profile pictures on social media.
If you're thinking of buying a not-a-cheap-DSLR-but-on-a budget (after memory cards and one extra battery, and tax, it was just under $1000)

I am a new to the world of photography and I wanted a camera that was easy to use, eith a good set of capabilities. Reading the reviews from users as well as professional reviews and this who have a few years of using this model, the reviews were excellent. It takes really good pictures and even though some said they have had problems with snapbridge and wi-fi, I've had no issues. I am very pleased with this camera! I think this is an excellent choice for a first timer.

This is a great purchase. Comes with 2 useful lenses which makes it a good deal. As a slightly more than a begginer photographer this camera was a great upgrade from a point and shoot. Have taken awesome shots and the easy Bluetooth download button makes it so fast to share pictures.

This Nikon D5600 camera is an awesome camera. Great for anybody whether you're a beginner or expert. Comes with two lenses great for close ups or long distance shots. Battery last a long time, just charge it the day before you want to use it the 1st time.
I have enjoyed taking graduation photos & can't wait to use to photograph my friend's wedding as well as capture pictures of the county fair & my daughter's FFA pictures. I highly recommend this Nikon camera. You will love it.

It is a really great camera! My first really nice expensive camera.. I purchased it just a couple weeks before going on a vacation. Deff need to do a bit of research if your a beginner like myself. I experimented a little before we went on our trip an thought I got the jist of it but when I got to Dominican Republic for some reason it wouldn't focus right, I couldn't really figure out why but I did get some good shots .. like I said it's a great beginner camera you just need to do your research on how to work it. I'm happy with my purchase. Nice and clear shots

My first DSLR. Definitely user friendly. I can switch to auto and get great pictures. Bery easy to learn and navigate as a totally amateur photographer. The 2 lenses that come with this package pretty much cover most situations.
I use it a lot for taekwondo and ballet pictures. Definitely catches the movement telaly well. Photos come out magnificent.

Very versatile camera, extremely easy to use right out of the box . Lots of manual options to use as you expand your knowledge of photography. The two lenses are a good fit , I would prefer one normal fixed lens , but the two zooms offer a wide range of focal area.

This is my start camera for getting back into photography. Stepping up from a cell phone. Really enjoying it and the lenses. I don't suggest dropping it but I have dropped it a few times and it's managed to sustain my rough treatment. Gives me very good raws, even with movement, since I do mostly wildlife and nature photos. I just need to get better in learning about it and working with settings but very happy with it right now.

The Nikon D5600 is a great all round platform for people looking at getting into photography. The 2 lenses that came in the package make this combo a steal. The 18-50 mm lens allows you to take beautiful panoramic photos and pictures of people. The 70-300 mm lens will allow you to zoom in on things both close and far. Then you also have the Snapbridge app for your phone, which allows you to both look at photos on the go and to use your phone as a remote to take pictures if you're taking a group photo.

I usually spend a few months researching before making a big purchase. And given the price of these bad boys i can tell you hands down. Not including my house or car, this is the most expensive thing i own. That said i regret nothing. This thing is amazing and has taught me so much about photography. The image quality is amazing. Most my photos are used as screen savers for my tv, so the quality is really notable at 50 inches of hdtv.

Before I get into anything, I love Nikon. I have used both Nikon and Cannon DSLRs. Everyone has their own opinion on which is best. My take is Nikon for beginners, their software is easy to use and for recording on their lower end cameras is pretty decent.
I absolutely love Nikon cameras and finally got this one to get back into photography. I find nikon to be some of the best and easy to use cameras out there for DSLRs. Two lenses and the base is a great deal. Got it working as soon as the package was handed to me today.
Wish I had taken a picture of the actual box that this was shipped in, but matter of fact that I received it like this with the box open is unacceptable. It is amazing that nothing was stolen, not shipped, nor broken. Best buy you have to do better. This is ultimately your responsibility.

Love this camera! It picks up droplets of water when the bird shake it off in the bird bath. Love the action shots as well. Just wish it could get the longer range in the trees to be close up. The add ons are so expensive!! It is a bit noisy when taking the shot which the birds hear even when I am inside my home and they always take off which I cannot stand! My friends say I'm a Natural though!!
