This game is not a walk in the park. Just enough difficulty to make it very interesting and a challenge. Lots of great action and the setting is excellent. Grandson will love this one! Getting it for Christmas.

I bought a ps4 just for Nioh, the best way i can describe this game would be if ninja gaiden and dark souls had a kid, Nioh would be it. lots of action but have to be careful otherwise it can be frustrating.

Great game. Entertaining story. Awesome Combat. Although Nioh is difficult at times, it is very satisfying to see your character progress as you move throughout the game. I do think this game is tougher than any of the Soulsborne games. But this is Team Ninja! They did the Ninja Gaiden remake which is arguably one of the toughest games of all time. If you're patient, love a challenge, and appreciate Japanese culture/mythos, this game is for you.

Not as hard as Dark Souls and Bloodborne like others are comparing it too and the loot system is fun for me. Would recommend for anyone looking for a game to keep them on the edge of their seats!

Dark Souls meets Ninja Gaiden meets something completely else. Might frustrate some with difficultly, but worth playing and completing if you can. One of the more interesting titles of 2017.

Nioh is amazing. It's easy to pick up and play, while being extremely challenging at times. You can customize how you want your gaming experience to be: 60fps@720p (60fps@1080p on Pro) 30fps with high end visuals or a mixture of both. no matter what system you have Nioh runs like a dream!
I just go ahead and say it. I don't get a Dark souls, Bloodborne vibe when I play Nioh. I actually get more of an Onimusha vibe which is awesome because those are some of the best action games of yesteryear and with this whole "HD remake" resurgence that the industry is currently on I'm actually quite amazed how not even talk about remaking those hasn't come up.
That being said of course there are some similarities: lost progress if you die and fail to retrieve your body, enemies that have a certain pattern/ weakness to learn, areas to explore to find secrets and new paths/ shortcuts.
Weapons and gear is what makes Nioh the game I will be constantly playing throughout the year. Its set up like Diablo and if you have ever played that game you know what to expect, farm, farm, farm! luckily this isn't a negative because Nioh is so fun and so much to do that you wont get bored trying to farm for that best possible spec. also like diablo you can craft and reforge weapons and gear to your liking.
In short Nioh has it all: the difficulty of Dark Souls, the addictiveness of Diablo, the overall awesomeness of Onimusha you just cant go wrong! Of course it looks, runs better on ps4 pro but this is one of those games that had Pro in mind from the beginning. if your not a pro owner no worries! Team Ninja did an amazing job on both platforms so no matter how you play it, you will have an wonderful experience!
Go out and get it now!

Fun Challenge

Nioh is an enjoyable challenge. I wouldn't say it is as challenging as a game like Dark Souls, though it does try to be. I found myself dying by falling out of the environment more often than anything, which is something I was generally able to avoid in Dark Souls.

If you're reading this and trying to decide whether or not to pick it up I would say you take the plunge. It's a game that shares a lot of design philosophy with the Dark Souls series but with a very difference aesthetic. It adds a few things to the formula that are welcome additions. The change in scenery is pretty neat too. Overall the only thing I'd have changed would be to allow for character customization and the like. Everyone is playing the same guy with a few hair/beard choices unless you buy specific character models. I'd rather we have more time to customize ourselves, but that's a minor quibble. The game is fun! Give it a chance!

Difficulty is a bit front loaded. After the 4th boss or so its not as hard. Gear can go a long way in helping reduce the difficulty. Very enjoyable game play. The stances go a long in adding variety to the combat. Game over stays its welcome towards the end.

Amazing game! Incredible gameplay with a decent story. Very few games that I can play for 120+ hours for a first play through and stay interested and this is one of them.

Dark souls is more one continunous world, Nioh is more rigid with it's mission system and each mission being a map that may or may not be unique to that mission, in most cases not. You can't kill any boss that isn't part of that mission and there's no way to go from one mission to another without going to the mission select screen.
The game has diablo style loot. You can't easily finish the game with your starting gear. Gear has levels and rarity and a lot of random bonuses.
Bosses are overall easier even when trying to avoid skills that kill the balance. If you use skills like sloth however the difficulty hits the easy point. A far departure from Dark Souls where there are very few cheap skills. Bosses however are generally fun to fight require a decent amount of skills, have not so obvious weak points and are fast paced. Dodging is necessary and worth it.
No shield blocking or switching from one handed to two handed stances. Weapons can block most damage so there isn't a need for shields but it also takes a unique character style out of the game.
With that said the game has a lot going for it, health potions, elixirs, are limited but not terribly limited. You won't find many 1 hit kills or cheap kills to annoy you. Basically all damage can be avoided. The story line is pretty good but overall combat is the focus of the game. It's fast paced, offers many choices, and is really player skill based.
It's one of those games where you should be prepared to die but where death was your fault and not cheap.

For me this game was a mix of Ninja Gaiden, Souls and Diablo 3. Top tier combat, it's a joy to play. Especially for those who love Souls series

If you were a fan of the Darksouls or Bloodborne series, you should give this game a try. If you aren't a fan of said game, you can still give it an honest try without the needed baggage and memes. The game stands on it's own as a fantastic addition to the 3D hack and slash genre all the while drowning you in japanese history and mythos. If patience and rewarding combat isn't your thing and you would rather just spam buttons like in dynasty warriors, it's an easy pass. You will die alot in this game, whether you learn anything from those deaths is up to each person. This game makes me excited for a theoretical Onimusha game sequel with today's creativity and technology but I digress.

If you're familiar with the Dark Souls brand of gaming (difficult, but rewarding gameplay), chances are Nioh won't seem too out of the ordinary to you. Still, Nioh is it's own beast, and shouldn't be written off as a Souls clone. Combat is fast and satisfying, loot is abundant (almost too much so sometimes), and the levels detailed. I especially like how instead of just seeing how others died by touching their blood echoes (ala Souls), you can challenge other player's avatars to a duel.

It's somewhat similar to the Dark Souls games. It can be challenging but a lot of fun. Great story and visuals
