My favorite vampire movie. Klaux Kinski. Bruno Ganz. Directed by Werner Herzog.

Brilliant remake of the 1920s silent film. The movie is presented in both German and English, but it's not dubbed. The actors actually performed every scene both ways, so you're getting two completely different versions of the movie. I prefer watching the German, as the actors seem more comfortable speaking their native language. Klaus Kinsky will give you nightmares. His animalistic performance, especially in the final scenes, is just creepy.
Warning: this movie is very slow paced. It's not for watching with a group.

This film is not as scary as the original from the 1920s, but it still captures a sense of horror. The opening credits are pretty freaky...

I bought this for a friend many years ago. It's very subdued but I actually liked it quite a bit. Kinski and Adjani are both wonderful. Herzog's direction is superb. The atmosphere alone makes me want to watch over and over. Thumbs up.

beautiful film...scary, grim, and yet alluring. the scenery is breathtaking and the settings are flawless. Hollywood could never do a remake like this--they just don't 'get it'....
locate the soundtrack by Popul Vuh as well--eerie and ethereal

Scream Factory does it again. Wernor Herzog and Klaus Kinski give us this reimagining of the 1922 gothic masterpiece. Some people find this to be the inferior of the two films under this name, however, if you're looking for something different, stellar direction by the helmer, mesmerizing performance by Klaus, I would say give this one a chance.
