Customers are saying

Customers admire the GeForce GTX 980 4GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card's high performance, excellent price-to-performance ratio, and ease of installation. Many appreciate the card's ability to deliver smooth gameplay at high frame rates and resolutions. However, some users note that the card can run warm and is quite large, requiring a spacious computer case. The cooling system is a point of concern for some customers.

Best under $1K yet. It's a reference card though

Normally, when you hear the words "reference card", you're presented with factors such as "limited overclocking room" or the "manufacturer shipped these units out at very conservative clock speeds". This is true. However, it is a very nice design with reference cooler AND a back plate. My only gripe is for the performance you're getting, you're paying so much more (almost $50+ more). I would suggest getting the EVGA Superclocked version of this GPU. This is the reference card and normally Nvidia will provide these reference cards to 3rd party vendors where they themselves improve on that default model to make it better (most of the time, faster and better cooling efficiency). If you're looking for a fantastic single card GPU or if you're going SLI, this card is it (all while looking super slick - the glowing "GEFORCE" emblem is too cool). The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that you're paying more than 3rd party vendors are for 'conservative' clock speed and performance. Asus, EVGA, MSI, Gigabyte, etc. have improved on the reference design to make it faster and better. I personally believe the reference design (this card) is the best looking aesthetically

    60FPS on Ultra? No problem

I originally had the 970, which I was a little disappointed with the whole VRam issue and comparing its preformace to my 660 before, it wasn't worth the price. Also the fan shut down, so I exchanged it for the 980 and I can say that if you wanna run BF4, Bioshock Infinite, CSGO, COD AW and more at 1080p running at ultra at 60fps, you will have no problem. Some games that you can run at 1440p like mw3 and BF3 can be played at 60fps also. 4K can be run on most games, but for actually, unless you SLI, you can run most games at 4k and average 20 to 50fps depending on the settings. Overall I think it outperforms the 970 in all ways, and should be a logical upgrade for any pc gamer.

Like someone else said, bang for the buck the 980 isn't quite as good of a deal as the 970, but if you want raw horsepower and performance in one of the most sexy graphics cards you'll ever see, look no further. Just beware though, the GPU is like a 10 inch block of solid steel. It weighs two and a half pounds and is almost a full foot long, so make sure your case can fit it!

This Card Just Destroys Next Gen Games

The reason why I bought this card over other cards that are available in the market is the fact that it’s the reference design cooler, which is a blower type of cooler. The reason why I prefer a blower type cooler, is the fact that blower type cooler expels hot air outside the case and not inside the case, compared to other aftermarket coolers by other brands. Although, reference design cooler does run hotter compared to aftermarket coolers, I still prefer that the hot air produced from this card is expelled outside of the case and not stay within case causing other components to run hotter.

Best flagship card out there but...

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

You are probably wondering why I would give such an incredible, and beautiful, Piece of hardware only a two star rating. The GTX 980 itself really is fantastic. It ran every new game, flawlessly, on maximum settings at 60FPS1080p. I had no problems with the card what so ever and, it really is the cheapest flagship card ever released. So why the two stars then? The GTX 980 has one simple six letter problem, GTX 970. If top of the line is what you are looking for then go for the 980 100%. However, if you are someone on a budget, like myself, I simply can not recommend the GTX 980 when the GTX 970 is a whole $200 less and is only about 10% less powerful. The GTX 970 is still powerful enough to play any game at 1080p on maximum settings. So, in the end, if you are looking for the best available or gaming at 1440p or higher I would absolutely recommend this card. But, if you are on a budget or still at 1080p, I see no reason to spend the extra $200.
