This is an insanely fast and powerful device. I would consider this the Rolls Royce of streaming devices. It has plenty of storage and the power to be a Plex media server. The layout and expansion options are excellent and so is the customer service. NVidia did this one right!

This is an interesting device. On one hand it is expensive and hasn't been overly upgraded in years. On the other, there is nothing in it's class. If you want a media player, you can't do better.
This is quite a powerful little box here and let me be clear on something, I see lots of un-official 3rd party Android TV boxes online but I couldn't take a chance using them because I don't know how stable they are so I spent the extra money for the shield to be sure I have full support and compatibility. Ive purchase a couple of those boxes and my overall experience was negative. Not with this Nvidia shield.
The Nvidia comes with the updated CPU, the Nvidia Tegra X1 chip that’s 25 percent faster, 16GB of internal storage and 3GB RAM.You are getting a device that can stream in 4K HDR, with both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio decoding. Overall, great device.

Shield is fantastic!! I have it playing 4K content and it looks beautiful. All kinds of apps you can add to make it your own. Only thing I dont like is the main page, lots of ads.

Is this the best to expect of android tv?

I was interested in buying a shield since the first model but I still think it's too expensive compared to similar products on the market, even though it's still the best android tv box.
For being a 2019 product, it can't handle Asphalt 9, a several years old Android game, that make me realize that it's performance is not as good as it is announced if I compare it with the ultra low price moto e 2020 that I got for 60 bucks that I'd able to run the aforementioned game.
The other drawback specially for shield tv core model is the excessively low storage, 8 GB total, that can be upgraded with a micro sd as internal storage but then you lose the external storage option to play with emulators and media easily. Also the 16 GB of storage of the 'pro' model is not a substantial improvement but the 2 usb ports allow you to increase both internal and external storage.
For the positive side of the product the AI upscaling is incredible and make your old nineties series look great on 4k upscaling. Also emulation works perfectly up to Sega dreamcast.
My advice, if you really like to play with android devices you're going to have a good time with the shield but don't expect a good performance device with 2019 standards. Spend the extra 50 for the pro model if you don't want to be greatly disappointed.

This is the best Android TV box out there and I have tried many different kinds of streaming sticks stream boxes over the years and this has the best performance but it is costly for that performance but if you can afford it it is great and the AI's upscaling it is amazing

Amazing device. Fast and easy to use. The AI upscaling is in a league of its on. In my opinion, it is the only streaming box to own. The remote on the other hand is a bit too sensitive and I recommend tweaking the backlight settings so it doesn’t turn on every time you move it.

I cannot recommend the Shield TV highly enough. There is not a better streamer on the market (unless you're locked into the Apple ecosystem). It's fast, and the AI upscaling to 4k is fantastic. Recently updated to Android 11.

What can I say... this used to be the best media streamer device you can buy and it was worth every penny. I bought this device specifically for its simplicity and power. I have my own media server at home and it was able to play everything I threw at it at the time. I also enjoyed playing games directly from the device or by using Nvidia Gamestream. Then they added Google Integration and everything went downhill....
-With Google Integration came ads. This began slowing the device down and there is no way to turn this feature off officially. The ads that would appear had absolutely no relevance on what I would watch. Sometimes very inappropriate ads would even display. Not good when you have small children that use the device to watch shows and movies.
-Gamestream was retired by Nvidia, and this was another reason I bought the device. I enjoyed being able to stream my games from my PC to the TV, and it had very little impact while gaming. People will say to just use Steam to stream games, but I experienced nothing but lag and glitches when playing games through Steam.
-Newer codecs are not supported on the device, like AV1 or HDR10+. Dolby vision is sometimes a hit or miss.
-The device is outdated (2019) and there are cheaper alternatives that can do what the Shield Pro does, and so much more.
-Constant freezing is now the new norm. Search Shield Pro forums and you will come across numerous users who have this issue. Resetting the Shield to factory defaults fixes the issue until you upgrade the shield (Google Integrations), then the freezing starts all over again.
I moved away from the Shield to an AppleTV and could not be happier. I feel like I have control of the device and can configure what content appears in the home screen.
If you do not mind the issues that come with the Shield Pro, then by all means go for it, but I would not pay the current price ($199). I would wait for discounts or sales to kick in, but the device is really only worth $99 now. I personally would not buy a media streaming device from Nvidia again.

The Nvidia Shield TV is an outstanding product for what it is. I originally had a firestick HD for streaming, a Steam Link for connecting to my PC, and a Raspberry Pi powered retro console, which as you can imagine, became very cumbersome due to all of the cables and devices. All of these were functional on their own, but with the Shield TV I was able to condense them down nice and cleanly. It's far more reliable than the Firestick, and works just as well as the dedicated Steam Link device. I've had no trouble connecting any of my bluetooth controllers to it, making gaming instantly accessible.
The TV remote that comes with this model is really nice. It has a really good weight to it, and the buttons light up when in motion, so it's really easy to know what buttons you're pressing even in the dark, not to mention those times where it falls down and you can't see.
All in all, a fantastic product I can't recommend enough.

I bought this as an upgrade to my previous streaming box and this thing does not disappoint. It's very snappy and fast, the UI is the best I've seen on Android TV and the picture quality is amazing. The remote lights up and you can change the backlight level!!!!! This thing is worth every penny and I love using it!!

I bought Nvidia to replace the Amazon Fire TV 2nd gen. It is much faster in performance. The picture quality is much better. I like it better than the Amazon Fire TV. It is as expensive as the Apple TV but more versatile. It allows you to use 3rd party apps. When running Youtube, occasionally the screen starts to flicker, goes blank and the Nvidia crashes and then reboots itself. This is a glitch and has happened a few times. I hope the Nvidia makers are aware of this and can fix it.
I took a star away from the Nvidia rating because of its remote and price. The remote is sleek but is dysfunctional and hopefully be improved in the future. The remote has a big red Netflix button at the bottom. I find that button annoying and useless. I never use it to launch the Netflix anyway. It is so sensitive that even a brush of a feather will launch the Netflix app in the middle of something I am watching like a Prime video or Youtube, suddenly the Netflix gets launched and would not let me get out of it by pressing the return button. The other thing is that the rewind and forward buttons are below and above the play/pause button instead of being side by side. I have to fumble with them to get them right. In this price range, this should have been better.
Overall, I like the Nvidia.

Much better video and audio quality than previous streamer. All around great product and don’t have to worry about being limited on side loading.
