Best Option for Android TV

I love this. I watch Kodi, and all the other streaming apps like netflix on this machine. I also play android games with it. I don't paid to stream the games but that is an option for only $8 a month. It does a lot for the price and it got updated to Android 6.0 so you can add a SD card and expand your INTERNAL memory.

The best all-around Android set-top box

If you are in the market for a set-top box than can stream content from the web and your local PC, stream games from an NVidia-equipped PC, and run emulators and native games well, then this is your best bet. It's more powerful than any of the competitors, and offers a better Netflix/Hulu/Kodi/etc. experience than any other piece of hardware I've used.

I'm very impressed with the ease of set up and use. We use this for our Netflix and all the other aps. I have brouse the games for the system, but I prefer cpu gaming. I am actually considering buying a second one for our entertainment room in our basement as well. I also have the original Firestick... The shield is much faster and of better quality.

I researched the best media streaming device and landed on this one since it has access to Google Play. The only issue is that not all of the apps are available on the Shield since the app creators have to modify the app to be compatible. Otherwise, I really like this device. It is 4K compatible, has upgradable storage, and looks good.

Works well out of the box. I haven't gamed on it yet, but it does a great job of playing movies and my DVR recorded shows (HDHomeRun).

Was looking for a device to satisfy the need for a media device and some light gaming. The Shield goes above and beyond. Being an android TV device, there is so much potential for apps and games. Can connect peripherals if needed. Best of all, it does everything lightning fast (as it is an Nvidia unit). And lets not forget Kodi ;)

Good: My main concern was KODI app. It runs very good on it. All movies, TV shows, Live channels are free. You can play game in it. For music Spotify, Google Music & iheart radio are very good. It build with chromecast.
Bad: Plex is only one app I don't like it. You can't use your portable hard drive video or music play on plex.

I bought this to be able to stream a few games off my PC to my TV, as well as use as a plex player / for netflix etc. Device works way better than the nexus player I had previously, Netflix literally loads instantly, much better than the app on my TV.
Only thing that's really missing is the controller doesn't have force feedback, which once you're used to it, really feels like it's lacking without it.

If you have a non-smart tv then this is a great addition to it. You can stream everything you want and also play games on it. It turns a normal hd tv into a great smart tv. I would recommend this to anyone.

After cutting the cable cord last December (after 21 years) we were looking for something to bring all of our online services to one device. Others did Netflix and Hulu but not Sling TV. Then we got this and it does it all and more. Since it's an Android TV it also plays many games right from the Play store and comes with a remote and game controller as well! Very worth the price!

This is the second one I bought. Its fast a great gamer and It handles my plex server needs. I can watch and record live tv through my HDHomeRun OTA tuner and a Qnap NAS. There not cheap but if you need a powerful box that won't let you down. This could be your answer to your cord cutting dreams.

Very fast Difficult to program remote Nvidia support staff was absolutely awful. Did not keep their commitment on the call back. They could not solve my problem making the remote work.
I solved the problem myself
On buying the literature was not clear that a remote control came with it.

Powerful processor. Good performance. More and more apps made for Android TV. Get OS updates from Google Can handle HD music when streaming, e.g. Tidal at "HiFi" quality. 4k capable. Remote and game pad still hold charges after 3 years. Both have mic for voice search.

I purchased this to work with my Samsung 75 inch 4K UHD TV to play streaming and stored 4K video and 1080p video and to allow the 5.1 audio to pass through to my receiver.. I already had a Remix Mini Android box that would play 1080p video but I could only get 2 channel audio from it. The Shield does what I need it to do but for use as an Android TV, the Remix Mini has a far better GUI interface that looks almost like a Windows PC desktop and start menu. Using a Logitech mouse and keyboard, playing content on the Remix box is much easier. The fact that the Shield is also a game box is appealing but this seems to slant the GUI interface in that direction. If the Shield would allow me to install an alternate GUI or better provided one then I would give it 5 stars. Also many Google Play apps do not show up for this device. I have side-loaded many from other sources and they run fine but this is a pain to have to do. I do not know who decides the compatibility of Apps & games for Android TV boxes such as the Shield but knowing that many of them do run on the Shield that do not show up as available directly leads me to believe that NVidia needs to take the lead on this. Also, my son-in-law just purchased a Microsoft X-Box S that both plays and streams 4K media but also has a built-in disc drive that reads the new 4k Blu-Ray discs. If I had to do it over again I am not sure what I would purchase. Meanwhile, in terms of performance, the NVidia Shield is definitely an improvement over my old Remix Mini Android box but I sure miss the Remix interface.
