I was tired of my FireStick and Fire TV freezing up and/or the remote not working. Bought this to try. Absolutely love it. It's not even that it works so amazingly, but that it just WORKS. It does what it's supposed to, and quickly, without thought or hesitation. I click a button. It moves. Instantly. The way it should be.

Huge Improvement From Amazon Fire TV

I am not one to usually write reviews but I recently switched from the latest Amazon Fire TV that supports 4K to the NVIDIA Shield TV 2 and couldn't be happier! I am a cord cutter so I stream all my TV content from various sources such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, PlayStation Vue, Sling TV, and Kodi and the Shield TV is by far up to the task. You can definitely feel the processing power and extra ram with this compared to the Amazon Fire TV for streaming. I enjoy the simple interface on the Shield TV which is much less cluttered than the Fire TV. I am not a gamer so I can't comment on how this device performs under those conditions but I would highly recommend it for any type of streaming!

I did some research before going with the Shield. Its a nice device for gamers but here's what I found out on it. I got rid of cable TV and decided to try out Hulu, Sling and Playstation Vue. Hulu - Because the Shield is Android based, Hulu TV will not work, at the time of this review. I hope in the future this will change but if you're looking to use Hulu TV, it will not work. Other then the TV, Hulu works great. Sling - So its nice Best Buy will give a 30 day trial for using Sling, the problem is you need to do some updates before watching any TV. Shield will require the latest version of Google Play, the problem is this update is not an easy install. I had to use File Commander (had to install that on the shield), get the correct file to update on a USB stick and install. This took some research but I ended up getting Sling to work. I'm told I should have waited for Shield to get an automatic update. but if you're like me and didn't want to wait X days for the update, manual install is the only option. Playstation Vue - This is what I'm current using for watching TV. It works well. Runs great on Shield, and don't have any pre-setup other then downloading the App. Movies Anywhere works great. Netflix is good. PC using the Shield is nice but there are some settings changes required. The Nvidia Gaming - This works great, very little lag. Played both Fallout 4, Stardew Valley, and was able to get Overwatch running through the Shield. There's almost no lag, few times Overwatch would screen tear but I think its because my GPU (970) is older. The controller is very nice. The remote is also nice. But be ready for alot of firmware updates for both.

One of the Best Media Streamers on the Market

I have at least one of each of the most popular media streamers (Roku, Firestick, Apple TV, Chromecast). They all do a good job, but the Nvidia Shield TV is the best. It's more expensive, but I think it'sthe best device for streaming local content from systems on your network and it can play just about any format and supports 4K I am using it with Amazon Prime and Netflix for streaming, Silicon Dust Prime for playing cable TV, Chromecast for casting movies/pictures from phone and table and a Plex media server for playing my own videos, movies and other photos. If you want to do all those things this is the one to get. It has a very fast interface; you can connect external storage devices via USB; it supports Google Assistant and it includes a game controller, so you can play games as well (there a lot of them supported for the Nvidia Shield and available for download) Since this is an Android device, you can add a lot of apps that are configured for the Nvidia Shield right from the device. It's compact, fast and easy to use and there seems to be good support (in the form of software updates) from Nvidia so far.

I have used fire sticks and fire TV but the shield is so much better. Tons of storage and much faster internet streaming. My fire tv would max out at under 100mbps on my 1 gig fiber but the shield will run around 850 down and 925 upload on speed test. Might be more expensive but I feel like it’s well worth it if you stream!

Just a week ago, I would've given this four stars. Today, there was a update which fixed the awful remote control. Now that the remote control is working as it should, I highly recommend this. I would say it is not worth it if all you want to do is Stream media. But if you want a very fast streaming box which will also play games, there is no beating this.

Between emulation, streaming video, streaming steam games, and the somewhat limited Android TV gaming library this is actually a pc gamers console in so many ways. You can stream your movies and TV shows from your pc. Stream steam games, and just generally act as a perfect accessory to the pc

Bought this device a year ago, This is the ultimate streaming device! This should be in your living room or entertainment area. Yes, there are cheaper products out there that can do similar things, but I think it's money well spent if you're invested in streaming. There's just so much this device can do, and it handles it like a pro. I never have any problems with opening apps or switching between them. Everything loads up quick, and I never have to wait around for buffering. I'd recommend researching Android TV a little bit - see what it's about, and if does what you need, the NVIDIA Shield is the device to get! Again, check for specific app compatibility, but you can get Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and even Amazon Video. If you still have cable, depending on your service provider, you can still get access to certain channel's apps like TBS, TNT, or ESPN. There is also a selection of games available to download and play, both through Android and NVIDIA's own selection. You've got access to music through Spotify, Pandora, and obviously Google Play music. Since it is Android, you also get access to the Google Assistant.

Love that this included a game controller (which can also serve as a remote control) AND a regular remote.. Streaming is faster than "The Stick", with less buffering. App drawer set up nicely and is user friendly. Easy to add your own favorites too!

I have been using this to stream 4k content natively and it works like a charm. I had issues with other products for the same purpose. I am very happy with my Shield. I have only tested the game streaming, and have had mixed results. Since I did not intend to use that feature, or plan to use it, I will still give it 5 stars.

I have an old Asus Nexus Player that is failing so I decided to get a new Android TV box to use on an old non-smart tv. This thing is extremely fast and everything just works. I wish more companies supported the Android TV platform, but with a built in Chromecast, anything I cannot find in the app store, I can just stream from my phone.

Got these unit to replace my antique nexus player hoping to have similar interface since we really liked android tv. It was easy to set up and has very fast prices of. Kodi works great in it and finally can use Amazon Video on Android Tv! Also nice feature to be able to use headphones with gamepad. Highly recommended even thought is a bit pricey.

I purchased this to get 4k streaming from my PC to my television. Works like a charm, except the android interface both doesn't work with my steam controller and doesn't easily allow for direct streaming of PC with the Windows shell. And then, when you take the time to allow the setup to stream your desktop, alt + tab switches between open applications on the Shield T-T Still very nice, high quality streaming device, though! Maybe a little too expensive for the trouble I'm still having with it.

I have tried many s905 chipset boxes , ATV 3rd and 4th gen and most recently the mibox. This one beats them all in ease of use and ability to customize. This one also freed up my iMac that I was using as a Plex server. If you are on the fence and looking to cut the cord, don’t hesitate, this is the right move for you!

This comes with the latest version of Android TV and supports side loaded APKs. Future updates will allow it to work with smart home applications. Its best feature is being able to use it as a Plex server. I recommend getting the 500GB model if you plan on putting 1080P videos on the Plex server as it will need more space to properly transcode.

This is the absolute best Android TV box. It runs all the apps with blazing speeds and best of all, it works really well with Kodi. Couple that with the fact that Kodi will be getting Google Assistant compatibility in the future, this will literally be the ultimate TV set box because sheild has Google assistant functionality!
