Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the ease of use and smaller size as significant advantages. However, many users experienced issues with Kinect sensor recognition, calibration difficulties, and inconsistent tracking, particularly impacting gameplay. Some found the zoom feature insufficient and reported problems with maintaining consistent player detection. Overall, the product's effectiveness seems highly dependent on individual setup and calibration success.

It was on sale so I figured why not let's try it. We tried it and didn't make a difference and it made it worse. The kinect was having a hard time detecting my legs when I was playing.

I am a tech savvy person. However, this did not work as advertised. I installed it according to the directions but the kinect would never recognize anyone.

Works as described. You can control your Kinect standing much closer than without this product.

I picked up the Kinect Zoom because of a lack of play space, and while it did enable me to play Kinect games closer to the tv, there were some issues. It is VERY quirky when you use it to navigate the Xbox Live menus. It has a hard time recognizing the hand being used and dark colors in the room or on clothes really throw it off. However, during gameplay it worked pretty well. It didn't seem to have the problems it had during menu browsing. It works fairly smoothly and allows you to play in an area much, much smaller and closer to the tv. So if making this purchase, be prepared to just use the Zoom for gameplay only and rely on the handheld controller for menu browsing. Overall I'm happy with the product, but not thrilled.

I read through the other reviews and even still I figured i'd give the Zoom a shot. I ended up finding it on sale at Best Buy. My living room isn't too constrictive but I thought it might help bring things closer to help me play with others. Installation was pretty easy... i found the small lens protectors to be a complete waste. They didn't fit on the lenses since they are concave and were falling out of the plastic as soon as it was gently peeled back from the paper. The Zoom certainly did bring me closer to the TV. I don't think a lot of people realize how much closer it brings you to the system. I could almost reach out and touch the Kinect itself while i was playing. Playing comfortably away from the TV was impossible since it couldn't pick me up when i got anywhere away from it. I don't think anyone wants to play 3 feet from the TV. In the end i just took off the zoom, re-calibrated my kinect and pushed the sofa back. Overall not worth the time, money, or frustration. If you have a small room to play in with a smaller TV then maybe this might work. I'd recommend moving the Kinect to a stand or a TV clip placed on top of the TV.

the idea is great but the product sucks . i tried this in my room doesnt work . i have tried day and night settings , bright and low lights , different spacial settings and/or rooms , as well as different heights . nothing . it moves when im not does not recognize the area around me or the floor, i tried different games like fruit ninja and ufc trainer and both it will not stop calibrating . DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM !!! . if you are thinking about a kinect and have small area to play focus on games like fruit ninja and zumba where u wont need space behind you ( watch out for ceiling fans ) , where as ufc personal trainer needs u to be able to do sit ups and stuff like that . the worst thing of all is that just after putting it on once and taking it off once it scrached my new kinect all around the sensors , i am really peeved about this ,dont make the same mistake i did or wast your time like me please .

I got a Kinect (I wanted to upgrade my G1 360). I live in an apartment, while not small, was a little too small for the kinect. I bought the zoom and after installing it correctly (you have to hear the "click") I went to calibrate it. Now to those that say "It won't see the floor" I had that problem too. I had my Kinect on the entertainment center (below my TV). I then bought those clips that let you clip the Kinect to the top of the TV and it works like a charm. (Yes I understand I had to spend extra money to get it to work, but now it works fine) Menu controls work fine, (the buggyness, was because it was below the TV) The Sensor tracks me fine, I even played games with it and no problems. I really think that a lot of the people with issues with it, have the sensor under their TV's. So I think that the instructions should have mentioned that.

I brought the Zoom in advance, because the area we play the Kinect in is not a full 6 feet that is required by the game to play. I placed the Zoom lens over the Kinect camera and the camera wasn't picking up our bodies very well. Actually, when I took the Zoom off we had a better Kinect experience. I'm holding onto the Zoom, because our bedroom is even smaller and I want to see if it works in there. I'll provide further details later.

    A mixed bag

I purchased this kinect attachment Friday and tested it a few times this weekend. I have to say that overall I'm totally disappointed. For $30 I expected to get a quality product, but I can understand now why this product gets all the bad reviews. First off, it distorts the image the kinect sees. For games like Kung Fu Hi Impact that take your photo to put in-game you'll find parts of your body and face missing. It seems to work better on games that don't require "precise" movement. Kung Fu Hi Impact, for example, is just broad gestures like throwing punches and jumping and such. I also played a demo for Rise of Nightmares. This game requires that precise movement. You turn your shoulders left or right to turn... put a foot forward or back to walk forward or backward... you put your hand out to interact with items in the environment such as weapons you pick up or switches that you activate. These movements were often misinterpreted and scrambled by the sensor with this attachment on the kinect. I would put a foot forward to walk forward and my character would walk forward at first, but it would quickly start moving backwards. I'd say that all the bad reviews you've read are completely accurate. The ONLY plus I see to this attachment is when you use kinect video chat it gives your wide view a much wider view than normal, but I don't use that all that much so it's an irrelevant feature for me personally. For those reasons I will be returning my zoom sensor to the store tomorrow to get my money back. Totally not worth the gameplay problems it causes and the frustration that comes with those problems. It's a great concept, but it needs work before I'll even think about buying anything like it again. I was leery about purchasing a Nyko product because of their history with faulty products. (i.e. the xbox 360 fans that melted to the consoles back on the Gen 1 xbox 360s) Now I certainly won't purchase a Nyko product anytime in the future. I'd recommend you stay far away from this one.

    Great Product (If Installed Correctly)

I picked this up when it went on sale. I don't know if it would have been worth full price, even though it is a good product. We have one of those small living rooms that required moving furniture around in order to play Kinect games. When I first bought it, I tried to eyeball the position of the Zoom and received terrible performance. As a result, I ended up just taking it off and moving the furniture. After recently purchasing a workout game for Kinect, I youtubed an installation video to see what I was doing wrong. It's so easy. Once you put it on you slide it over until it snaps into place. Now I feel stupid, and it works like a charm. So in summary, assuming proper installation: - Works like it says - use the Kinect in way less space - Simple installation once you know the proper way to install it.

Definately not worth the price. Bought this for my son for his birthday because our coffee table is huge and extremely heavy to move. Only gives you about 2 feet of additional space where you can be closer to the tv which does help a little. After calibrating the xbox and kinect at least 4 or 5 times I still cant get the kinect to quit being so jumpy. Its either so jumpy you cant select an option on the screen or the icon on the screen will just disappear and reapper in a random spot that is nowhere close to where your hand is. Not worth the $8. I would rather take 30 seconds to move my coffee table than spend who know how many mintues just trying to select one option on the screen.

It might be fine- if I could get it to work

Let me start by saying that I am decently tech savvy AND I read the manual. I thought the Zoom was a great idea for folks who don't have enough space to properly play Kinect games. My room was big enough, but there is a table that I occasionally back into when playing a dancing game, and I just don't want to move it every time I play, so I got the Zoom. It slides right over the Kinect sensor- that part is easy. I have had the Zoom for about a month now and still don't have it set up to work right yet. With the Zoom on the Kinect does not register my motions correctly even to go through the menus. Just the waving motion that is used to let your Kinect know you are there and want to use motion to control Kinect doesn't work. I have gone through and TRIED to recalibrate the Kinect but nothing I change seems to make a difference.
