I had lots of fun with Octopath Traveler. I put in over 100+ hours into it. The turn based combat is additive, the story is good and the music is phenomenal.

I was kind of hesitant to buy this at first glance. But I am glad I did. A rich story with 8 paths and a familiar battle system made this game really enjoyable.

This game is loads of fun to play. The characters can run into each other on the map and join the party along the way (max of four though). The graphics and music are beautiful, you won't be disappointed. One of the most fun parts are boosting/chaining your attacks. It's so satisfying hitting four times at once and getting that kill. You won't really mind the random battles given how much fun it is to get through and figure out what attacks will work best. The voice acting is great and I love that even in battles they will say stuff. This is one of the best rpgs I have played in years.

This is a great JRPG. All around, the game is an enjoyable experience. Story, music, gameplay are all great.

Very old school roots, but plenty of modern conveniences. Looks great, has a rad turn-based battle system, and the music is outstanding, but it feels like 8 mini-RPGs mashed into one game. There is no central villain that I've noticed and grinding is a must, so it's not without its flaws.

Best JRPG game I've played since I was a kid. Music, artwork, gameplay, story, this game does everything that it could perfectly. A must for any rpg fan.

A loveletter to JRPG fans, the gameplay may feel a little slow to people who preffer more active combat systems, but people who enjoy classic turn-based challenges will absolutely love Octopath Traveller. The mix of HD2D sprites and 3D scenery make for an absolutely gorgeous game, and the music is everything you'd come to expect of Square classic RPGs. The 8 characters making up the story and the party are all charming and fun to play, and some of their abilities and can be mixed further into the game. An absolute must for Switch owners.

This game has challenging strategic gameplay and interesting story. The artstyle is beautiful and I love the modern take on old retro pixel games.

This game was all I thought about until I finished it after 51 hours. This game had an incredible turn based combat system, and some of the 8 characters had a great story. Though I would say the worst part was the story, sometimes, I would not pay attention or skip some lines because it got so bad (Mostly Ha'anit's story). In the end though every characters story ended well, to make up for some bad parts. The combat and dungeon diving were key highlights to the experience and all I wanted to do was play the game. I highly recommend this game.

I did not expect to get sucked into this game like I have. Some of the old, classic RPGs were great for their time but are a little wonky by modern standards. I was afraid this game would bring back some of those questionable design choices for the sake of nostalgia. Nope. It's great. It combines all of the goodness of an SNES era JRPG with more modern effects and audio. It looks great, it sounds great, and the battle system is fantastic! Easy recommend for any RPG fan and even for those on the fence about them.

It's a long game with innovative game play. A fun romp if you have the time.

Recently bought a Switch and this is one of the first games I got for the system. I’ve always been a big JRPG fan and a Square Enix fan, so I just had to pick this one up after doing some research and reading reviews. As of this review, I’ve put in about 60+ hours and I can confidently say that this game is one of my favorites of 2018. The music is absolutely amazing, the gameplay is so fun, and I love the cast of characters. Pick this game up if you’re a JRPG fan, this one is an enjoyable experience.

I was hesitant to purchase this game as I was unsure if Square Enix invested time and energy into creating an amazing RPG but I have not been disappointed. This game is in my top 5 favorites of all time now! The game is immersive in the story of each 8 characters with ability to complete both the main quests and side quests which are just as interesting and immersive. The battling system is easy to learn and bosses are challenging but feel very fulfilling when you beat them! Get this game! It is fantastic!

Octopath Traveler brings back the old school JRPG style in a more modern take. The graphics pay tribute to the games of the old 2D eras but still incorporate more modern 3D graphics. The combat is engaging and can take some planning to take down the bosses. The eight different story lines are a bit fragmented from each other and can be a little cliche, but there are a few that are enjoyable in their own rite. I definitely enjoy sitting back and just playing casually for the story and the battle mechanics.

Let me start off by saying I'm not much of a rpg/jrpg fan, it's not that I dislike those type of games, it's just they never really catch my attention. That is until Octopath traveler ofcourse, the 3 hour demo I tried had me hooked. Idk if it's the characters, beautiful art style, story, or all of the above but I am addicted to this game (70 hours in). I believe anyone with a Switch should at least give the demo a go (it's free) you have nothing to lose. This is my game of the year so far for Switch.

It has everything you want in an old school JRPG. The visuals are fantastic and so does battle system and the music.

Story is good, completely open world. Classic FF7/8 gameplay. Some good new twists in the combat system keeps it fresh.

I love RPGs, and I've been getting into JRPGs more and more recently. If you like old Dragon Quest games, you will probably like this. I've put about 50 hours into it and I think I'm about 75% of the way through the game. My only gripe is that it can be a bit grindy. Some people say they have not had this problem, but I have, after I complete chapters for the characters in my party, they are all a few levels away from the recommended level for the next chapter. And since you can only have four out of eight characters in the party at a time, it seems like I have to spend a few hours leveling up all my characters between chapters. Other than this I think it's a really great JRPG. I like the battle system, it's a bit unique and adds a little bit of strategy.

Octopath takes the classic Final Fantasy formula, adds Bravely Default elements, and adds some new features. The only issue I have with this game is the lack of interconnected storylines but the individual stories are very well done. The battles aren't simple attack spamming either, you have to exploit weaknesses and be involved with the process. You can lose to a simple enemy by being careless. Very well done game and the visuals are stunning for a retro style game
