As much as I want to rate 5 stars...
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this thing. It’s amazing! Even my parents love this! I would easily rate this five stars. However, a week ago the right controller just cracked on the loop that goes over the thumb stick area. I’ve contacted support and haven’t heard from them in a week. Once I get a response I will change this to 5 Stars, and revise my review. Otherwise, be weary of the support. They are not very fast, and they are not very informative.

VR for the mainstream
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Oculus Quest has nailed the PCVR experience in a portable, wire-free, all-in-one device. When you read claims that the Quest is a game changer they are not exaggerating. It is the first of what will be the future of VR, period. Beyond Google cardboard, this is my first VR experience. While I was initially impressed by the 3DoF(3 degrees of freedom) of early mobile VR (cardboard), I quickly lost interest as your movement is not replicated in 3D space. I have followed PCVR space for years but I did not want to invest in the hardware nor did I have the free space to dedicate to the typical PCVR setup (PC, external tracking cameras, etc). When I learned of the Quest I was intrigued but unsure how well a dated Snapdragon 835 could perform compared to a full blown gaming PC. First off let me just go ahead and lay out all the negatives with the device. No offense Mark, but I wish the device wasn’t tied to Facebook. You should have complete faith in a company who wants you to wear cameras and a microphone in order to operate a device, fortunately I trust John Carmack and the team at Oculus. Truth of the matter is this device may not have come to market this soon if it weren’t for Facebook’s backing and their foresight. Thankfully you do not have to use your Facebook account, it is optional. Privacy concerns aside, the sweet spot (focal area) is small, particularly vertically. Adjusting the headset to get a clear image initially takes a few tries but overtime I found it easier to dial in. Oculus also has fitment guides within the headset that assist you the first time you put the Quest on but you can also run anytime you need. The Quest features a manual IPD adjustment, which is needed to get an optimal image and reduce fatigue. The device is a little front heavy and the straps are fairly rigid, combining for an uncomfortable wear at times. Often I can just reposition the Quest to get an acceptable level of comfort, but I wish the straps had padding to help with the pressure on the back of the head which is necessary to offset the weight of the front. It isn’t the end of the world and you don’t need to strap a counter-weight to the back of it, despite what the internet tells you. The included facial interface (foam piece that cushions your face) is very comfortable and the glasses spacer does not seem to reduce FOV (field of view) significantly. The Quest has speakers built in to the straps, which provides surprisingly rich audio. Oculus also offers independent left-right ear buds, but the Quest supports standard headphones if you prefer. One of the primary components that makes the Quest unique is the Insight tracking system, meaning the tracking cameras are mounted on the headset tracking not only the environment but also the touch controllers. Oculus even lets you look through these wide-angle cameras in a passthrough mode that is utilized to setup your “Guardian” space. I was probably most impressed with the creation and management of these spaces by the Quest, as without them mainstream VR would be a non-starter. Within 10-seconds of putting the Quest on I can draw a new Guardian boundary and safely use the device in a new space without worrying about running into a wall. In my experience, the Guardian works flawlessly and has saved me from swinging a controller into my TV. I found the key is to draw the boundary a few inches away or before the wall/object you are trying to avoid, ensuring the Guardian pops up before your head intersects the plane of a stationary wall. That seems obvious but hopefully someone reading this will take the necessary precautions! With the latest update, you can even adjust the sensitivity to further customize the behavior of the Guardian system which is nice. Initially I had a few tracking issues with the system, which was to be expected considering what Oculus was trying to accomplish with 4 cameras and a mobile processor. The team at Oculus tackled the issue through machine learning and now the tracking has been solid for me. The controllers even seem to be tracked accurately outside of the view of the cameras (using the IMUs and telemetry gathered since release), which is nothing short of amazing. Not to mention this overclocked mobile processor also somehow manages to run decent looking games at a consistent frame rate! Speaking of games, the Quest has a nice launch library to choose from. The only caveat here is a majority of the games are essentially ports. For me, I am blown away that they are able to port and run PC VR games at all but I can understand why veteran Rift owners may be disappointed with the selection. This speaks to an issue with VR in general not just the Quest. In addition, not all games are cross-buy despite being on both Rift & Quest. I understand the reasoning behind this as some games are not straight ports, but rather optimized for the Quest and wire-free 6DoF. Regardless, it is nice to have the flexibility to play a game on the Rift or Quest for owners of both. If you are new to VR, this is a non-issue and there is a nice selection of VR experiences to choose from. Currently the graphics are fair but will improve once developers learn to work within the Quest's limitations. A device like the Quest is just what the VR community needs to foster broader adoption which will lead to better quality and selection of games. Storage wise there is plenty of room, with many experiences under 1GB and larger games averaging 2-3GB. Since getting the Quest, my PS4 is collecting dust..it really is a transformative experience that is unlike any console gaming system before it. At the price point, the Oculus Quest can’t be beat. Carmack’s vision of mobile VR has become a reality, the future is now!

A journey with VR becomes a reality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was at a convention where some basic VR headsets were being demoed and was left with not only a sick feeling in my stomach but also a completely underwhelming VR experience. Needless to say, I’ve been a bit of a pessimist when it comes to VR and VR gaming. My entire opinion changed when I tried on the Oculus Quest. Oculus Quest is the first all-in-one gaming headset available for consumers. I believe the distinction of it being an ‘all-in-one’ system is what really makes the difference for me. First of all, you don’t have the hassle of trying to connect a mobile device like some headsets out there and you aren’t tethered to a PC like you are with the Quest’s cousin — the Rift. You do have to connect to the companion app to set up the device, but it’s not the interactive screen that plays the games. The screen is bright and has a strong HD resolution (1600x1440). The headset fits on your head snuggly and even though there is a little bit of heft to it, it’s not heavy. I have been through several gaming sessions and not suffered through any neck/should pain due to the headset’s weight. It’s well balanced and very easy to get used to wearing. I did find myself getting a bit overheated a few times I used the headset. It really depends on how you are interacting with your environment. There are no headphones integrated so you can either play using the built-in speakers or you can attach a set of headphones. I have played both ways and while it’s fun either way, I highly suggest adding a set of good, over-ear, noise-canceling headphones for complete immersion. After playing for a couple of days without headphones, I added a set that actually has 3D sound and they were the perfect compliment to VR because the sound moved when you did. So, as I was playing a zombie game, I could hear the zombies coming from behind me and the sound moved as I did. It was a wonderful experience to be a part of. As far as content, I was impressed with the volumes and variety of titles that are available. You have the option of using the mobile app or the VR environment to peruse and purchase apps. I mainly focused on games at first, but have also used the Quest to interact with Facebook and YouTube. You wouldn’t think that would be an awe-inspiring experience, but it truly is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to join your surroundings like never before. The only criticism I have about the content is that when you start up the headset, there are only demos included. I would like it if Oculus could provide at least one ‘real’ title for users to try out. Maybe they could provide a credit code or something so that users could have a small store credit to use right out of the gate. Since I don’t have a lot of experience with other VR headsets, I don’t know how the battery relates to other products, but it does seem to be a short length of playtime. I believe I played for about an hour with no interruptions and the battery had been drained by more than 50%. It does seem to matter what content you are interacting with because some of the games seem to require more power than watching videos does. That said, it does seem to charge up pretty quickly. Also, the controllers use one AA battery each. I would have loved to see these be rechargeable like the headset is. Finally, the Quest does not come with a carrying case. There is a travel case available from Oculus as an add-on, but I really feel like one should be included to keep all the gear together and safe. If you invest in something like this you want to have a good way to protect it. Since we didn’t have a case specifically for the Quest, we ended up using a camera backpack with adjustable foam pieces in the inside to house the headset and all the accessories. As an interactive experience, the Quest definitely gets my vote. It’s been an eye-opening experience using the Quest and I find myself excited about gaming again.s This is an awesome device and If you jump in for the first time, you start to get the hang of it quickly. The Quest is well worth the investment and an impressive piece of equipment.

Your Virtual World Awaits ...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off - Be prepared to read a lot of ‘Warnings’ in the Safety & Warranty Manual. After reading all that over, I was a bit put off, and somewhat hesitant to even try out this VR device, but bravely proceeded at my own risk. ;) Unboxing the Oculus Quest All-in-One VR Gaming Headset was like opening a present on Christmas morning. It was packaged extremely well. You can definitely see the build quality of this gaming hardware. One point I’d like to bring up here is that I really think there are not enough actual ‘how to use’ instructions included with the device itself. While the Oculus app is a requirement to be able to use the VR headset, the app has only a minimal amount of ‘helpful hints’, and those are pertaining to the two hand-held controllers. It is when you are actually wearing the headset, that you learn how to use it, via a lengthy (and rather fun) tutorial. However, this just isn’t sufficient in my book. It would be more helpful to have step-by-step instructions to read through (and refer back to if necessary), even before putting the device on. As someone with no previous experience using a VR headset, going in basically cold turkey, blind and literally in the dark, proved to be a daunting prospect, and this took away from the fun factor. That being said, once I went through the process of acclimating myself to the controls of the hand-held game controllers, interacting with the virtual world was really, really fun! The controllers themselves are balanced well, with a nice matte type finish which makes them pleasant to grip, and well-spaced buttons that made them easy to hold onto. They also have safety wrist straps, with a slider that you can adjust to secure the strap to your wrist so the hand-held controller won’t go sailing away into nothingness should you let go of it during gameplay. The VR headset is a bit cumbersome and front heavy, as one might expect. But even after taking the extra time to make several adjustments to the three straps and eye slider, I still found the headset not quite as comfortable as I would have liked, particularly wearing it during an average gaming session. The “glasses” or rather ‘visor’ rested on my upper cheeks, giving a sensation of pressure, which is in no way desirable. In addition, based on my own personal experience, people with glasses are going to have a somewhat less comfortable time wearing the VR headset which does detract from the overall experience. One of the apps I tried out was Netflix. After signing into my account, I spent some time navigating around my dashboard, and found it to be almost as intuitive as on my tablet. By now I was getting used to how the hand-held controllers work. The only real negative worth mentioning here is that the video quality of the picture was not in any way close to being high-def. I could actually see individual pixels in the faces of the actors on-screen. Not that I expected crystal clear clarity, but something similar to what I’d seen while playing some of the VR games, would have been much nicer. Speaking of the VR games I sampled, the graphics were pretty good - bright, vibrant, and smoothly rendered. The sound was rich and full, including the ambient noises. I found myself truly immersed in the virtual environment, so much so that I wanted to further explore the living room scenes, as well as, the chateau/loft style spaces which were warm and inviting. Overall, I was very much surprised and impressed by the Oculus Quest. Initially, when these kinds of devices appeared on the market, I was naturally hesitant - curious, but not all that interested. I knew the technology would improve over time, and it has. There’s definitely a place for this type of gaming hardware, and after experiencing for myself what this Oculus Quest All-in-One VR Gaming Headset can do, I now look forward to see where virtual reality gaming goes from here.

WOW, it's a new era of gaming!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a fantastic device to step into amazing world of virtual reality. Crisp image, wide field of view (I would say it's about 100 degrees), great sound create a sensation of a complete different world around. You are not bound by any wires, can play absolutely anywhere (just find a room with about 6'x6' of free space), no PC required. Phone is required for the initial setup only, after that Oculus Quest just uses your WiFi to download games. Initial setup was pretty straightforward, just follow phone app instructions step by step. Headset straps are adjustable allowing you to position it comfortably. Face piece is made of a soft washable material and is replaceable. There is also a eyeglass adapter (spacer) which will allow anyone with the glasses to play. Distance between the players' eyes (pupillary distance) is adjustable in a wide range allowing anyone to enjoy the headset. First thing you do is establish a "guardian" which is an imaginary wall around you that appears if you come close. It's a safety measure that prevents you from running into things like furniture, walls, windows, etc. Guardian would only appear if you come close to that border and if you accidentally step over - VR experience will end and you would be brought back into the real world (kinda black and white image around you). Guardian also means that you can't play with the VR headset in a dark room, it's on-board cameras need to see around you. Headset has a very decent stereo speakers built in or you could optionally use a pair of headphones (headphones ports are located on both sides). Controllers that go in your hands are powered by a single AA battery (each), very lightweight. They also have vibration feedback built into them. Headset has a built in battery (not replaceable), USB-C charging adapter is included (5V 3A output, 100-240V input) along with a very long cable. In theory you could play while charging but I would not recommend it. Gaming experience is just amazing, headset comes with a few demo games, such as rollercoaster, trial version of Beat Saber, Boxing game, there is a ton of other games available in the Oculus store. You can share your experience with people around you by streaming what you see to the phone or nearby TV with a Chromecast (note that not all games can be streamed), so your friends are not bored. My definite top 5 apps for the headset: Beat Saber, Fruit Ninja, Angry Birds, Epic Roller Coaster, YouTube VR Overall it's a fantastic device, people of all ages would truly enjoy the experience! I just wish that travel case was included, it's available from Oculus separately though (also available - replacement controllers, replacement face piece, replacement power adapter). There are 2 version available with 64 or 128Gb of internal memory (depending on the number of games you would like to be abel to install at the same time). (Note: manual says children under 13 years of age should not use the headset).

A Great Leap For VR
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This stand alone headset is outstanding. No wires, portable, and plenty of freedom. Compared to Rift S and Vive, I’d say the Quest is on par with both. Of course there are graphical downgrades, but that is to be expected and is not a con. Easy set up and start. Tracking has no problem and is really accurate. Lens provide a clear image of games and videos. Game selection is amazing with titles such as Beat Saber and RoboRecall, with plenty more and on the way. You’re definitely getting your money’s worth. Highly recommend to those who’re new to VR too, as there are no wires and it’s all set up by an app. I also recommend buying rechargeable batteries for the Touch Controllers as regular batteries will run out after a week or so. Overall I think this is a great piece of tech, and as VR is becoming more mainstream, this is the best headset to jumpstart your journey into Virtual Reality.

The right direction for VR
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want a headset that is as simple as putting it on and graphics aren't a major concern to your experience, this is the perfect option. This comes from an enthusiastic whose been into VR since the dev kits, and from my experience, this comes as close to the future of VR as it gets. Pros: See through guardian system Easy to setup and to get started Decent tracking Impressive graphics for size of headset Great controllers Headphone jack but built in speakers are good Only cord that comes in the box is the charging cable, so completely wireless aside from that. Cons: Limited battery life (About 2-3 hours) Tracking dependant on visible light (So no playing in the dark) No streaming option for PC VR (Yet) Very limited launch library. Touch controllers still use AA batteries and not rechargeable. Recommended Games: Rec Room, SuperHot, Vader Immortal, and VRChat

Where do I start, soild 1st gen!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The quest is an amazing piece of tech. There are so many things you can and can't do with the quest. 1- For right now there are not to many games for the quest(like 30), also some of the games (recroom) you can't go into select areas because it's not compatible with the quest. Again this is new and developers are still in the making/moding the games so they cross over to the quest. 2- Tracking the controllers is as expected, pretty good but their are still some blank spots. 3- The guardian set up is really easy and quick. One thing I've come across is when playing heavy movement games is your guardian likes to shift off its original location. I'll have to reset it every so often. 4- The graphics are great for being a stand alone system. There's definitely better out there. When I was playing recroom for awhile (2 hours) I was getting screen tearing. I think it was the game more than the hardware because that's the only game that has happened on. 5- The headset is on the heavier side, obviously it holds a computer. I sometimes get headaches because it's pressed against my face (longer game sessions 4+ hours). Over all it's a great 1st gen product. If you're a heavy gamer who wants to mod games and play steam games DON'T GET THIS!! It's great for your average Joe who wants to try vr and doesn't have a custom built PC. There will definitely be great games in the future and the next gens will just get better and better. For now if you buy it just don't expect the best but expect alot of fun with very little hassle setting up. It's a great beginner vr system.

Best tech purchase I've made in the last few years
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best tech/gaming related purchase I've made in recent years! Being able to play popular VR games untethered is awesome and if you want to use the Quest as a PC or SteamVR headset you can now use the included or third party cable! Tracking is spot on, OLED screens are beautiful, and the 72Hz refresh rate is good enough in my opinion. I highly appreciate that the Quest has an IPD slider, because the Rift S may have given me some issues with my interpupillary distance of 60. The controllers are very intuitive and Quest games run very well for having a somewhat aging Snapdragon 835 SoC. The comfort of the stock Quest leaves much to be desired. The headset is very front heavy and you MUST ensure you're wearing the headset properly with the top strap extended quite a bit to better balance the weight. The facial interface can be bothersome or even painful after longer sessions. Spot cleaning the interface regularly is necessary as it will soak up sweat and the padding is not removable. The strap where the back of your head is cupped can be hit or miss depending on how round it is. Each controller's battery cover, which is held on with powerful magnets, tends to slide off and reattach itself when swinging your wands during faster Beat Saber songs. The screen door effect is there, but is quickly forgotten if you're playing a fast paced game like Beat Saber or Pistol Whip. Slower games you might notice it easier, but it doesn't bother me personally. Prices of games are slightly high with some not even offering crossbuy between Rift S and Quest such as Beat Saber and Superhot VR. Most of the above complaints can be fixed by buying aftermarket accessories, but be prepared to shell out quite a bit of money for them. While it looks like I have many complaints with the headset, the majority of them are comfort related and after adding a few accessories, the Quest makes for a phenomenal standalone system and PCVR headset!

Great start in vr being untethered
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from psvr, this headset visually isnt as good but does a great job. Its a trade off of being untethered and portable and able to play almost anywhere indoors. Havent tried outdoors but read the sunlight can damage the lens. This is a big upgrade from psvr, tracking and being untethered. Its the reason for my purchase and ease of set up also a plus. A bit front heavy compare to psvr but isnt an issue unless your playing hours on. Battery life from what ive got is around 2-2 in half hour, although i use casting so it drains a little more. Watching youtube or browsing will increase the battery length compare to gaming. Overall its a great vr headset. Wished they added a top camera for tracking when swinging over the head. Only a small portion i noticed when playing beat saber, swinging over the head can loose tracking for a second.

Magical untethered VR
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a wonderful device for several reasons: 1. Virtual reality on a mobile chip that delivers beyond what you expect out of a mobile chip 2. Untethered: Freedom from wires can only be appreciated after you have tried a wired experience first. 3. Tracking is excellent: I have so far only experienced rare tracking glitches; otherwise, it has been nearly flawless. 4. Good selection of demos and freebies to get you started. 5. Best price point in the market for such quality at the moment I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to get into this magical world. Do not decide on whether you will be impressed by VR or not based on videos of the games you see online; find a Quest somewhere and try it!

Untethered is unreal!
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I work with VR a lot for my job and I think it’s super awesome but I wouldn’t find myself wanting to drop 1500+ on a laptop and headset to have VR gaming at home. But then this beauty came along and for the price that it is, I just had to get one. I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the Quest. I think the most important things to consider when looking at the Quest compared to other headsets is that of course it’s not going to be as powerful, the battery will always be an issue when playing a lot, and the weight on your face can get tiring....but what it can deliver is 6 degrees of freedom and no wires (assuming you’re not plugged in for charging while playing). I do love that they acknowledged their biggest issue and dealt with it by providing a super long charging cable so that you can play while plugged in. Even this doesn’t feel like the constraining cables of a tethered headset. Bottom line - awesome if you want more freedom with your VR experiences. If you’re looking for the fastest gameplay and highest quality graphics, put the money you would spend on this towards a higher end system. But if you’re a casual gamer or just want something lightweight with no commitment to a gaming computer, the Quest is awesome.

Great for family fun
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've only had it for a week and it's a big hit. Everyone can't wait to take their turn. It's pretty easy to get started and you can play it anywhere, you don't need a TV, just an open area with no obstructions. You can cast what the user it seeing to a tablet or phone via the Oculus app. There are plenty of games and apps that are free and it has good demos of several other games. Get Superhot VR, it is amazing. Only drawbacks are you can only play for about 30-40 mins before you need to take a break. The mask can be uncomfortable after a bit and some people because of sweat and or tight grip and some got queasy or dizzy after playing but only temporarily. Also the battery only lasts for a few hours and then you need to recharge. Takes an hour or so to fully charge. It's an awesome experience...a lot of technology comes together in an elegant wireless package. I've been waiting for the technology to advance to this point and it didn't disappoint. Highly recommend as long as you are realistic about what to expect and are patient because everyone will want their turn and there is a lot to experience.
