Customers are saying

Customers enjoy the immersive VR experience and the comfortable design of the Rift Headset, frequently praising its lightweight feel and intuitive touch controllers. However, some users point to the lower resolution and resulting screen door effect as drawbacks, while others mention occasional motion sickness and compatibility issues with certain games or hardware. The available content library is also a point of contention for some customers. Despite these shortcomings, many appreciate the headset's overall performance and value for the price.

I was going to get a Vive, but with the addition of the new touch controllers, I think the Rift is every bit as good, if not a little better. It is slightly more comfortable, and I feel like the image is clearer. I would still only recommend this with the Touch controllers since those really do make this whole thing worth it.

Was on the fence because of the prices of this and Vive. This went on sale for the Summer of Rift sale and I bought the bundle. It works great and is fun.

Might be the 2nd Gen. Rift will released, so I got a promotional price, really good product, ez to setup and play, the controller(touchpad) really comfortable and fitted, really good immersion much better than the cellphone VR. The only defect is apps(software), You have to ready for this, there are no much games or VR movies for playing right now, if you want to purchase one. However, I believe the VR industries will goesmore and more better.

I love the oculus rift. It is so much cheaper than the Vive and works just as well in my opinion. Plus the exclusives you get from oculus are amazing.

Very immersive VR system. The headset and strap hardware is comfortable to wear and is well made. Looking through the lenses at the screen does have sort of a screen door look but you quickly forget about it as the head response is great and helps pull you into the virtual world. A pass-through camera to keep you from having to pull the headset up to see the real world would have been nice, but it doesn't take away from the VR experience.

This is a short review of the Oculus Rift with Oculus touch controllers, which elevate the experience so much that I don't understand why they are just included with the headset. I was an early user with a DK2 headset, and it is amazing how much the new headset has improved in weight, screen resolution, and ease of use. Getting some games to work the were purchased through Steam (before the Oculus app store was available) has been a bit tricky (when you remove the headset, then put it back on, it takes you to the Oculus home screen) but for apps that were purchased through the Oculus store, it couldn't be easier to fire up a game or experience. My only small complaint is that you need a good sized space with no obstructions to use this to its full potential. I originally had it set up on my home office desk, and it worked great until I had to reach down and the desk blocked the sensor's view of the controllers, which then behaved erratically. I had to set everything up again and move back to use most of the 10x12 room to have full range of motion. Once you are "in" a game, you really lose yourself in the experience. The headphones allow in just enough sound from the outside world to hear someone talking to you, but otherwise you feel like you're in a different world. It has been great for racing and first person VR games, and even the educations demos are fun. The 1980's style robot demo that teaches you how to use the touch controller was so good, I downloaded it and had everyone that tried the headset go through the demo first. This is the future of immersive gaming, and it is impressive!

    The Future of Gaming

Even at the discounted $600 price tag, it's expensive. It's also the coolest thing to happen to gaming in a long while. Unless you're an enthusiast, wait for another year or so for the tech to get better and more games to come out with full support; but, a lot of games have a VR mode that works through Steam VR that make it worth it, anyway. The HTC Vive has a better picture and viewing angle (larger screen) by a small margin; but, it's also less comfortable and heavier to wear. The cameras and overall setup is a bit more annoying. Oculus - paired with the new Touch controllers - is the best at-home VR system right now, hands down. PROS: - Very easy to setup - Very light headset - Cord is nice and long so you can do room-scale VR easily - Connect an extra, third camera for full room-scale support (it really works with the included 2 just as well) - A lot of Steam games work via Steam VR (included free with Steam) CONS: - You need at least 8 feet by 6 feet of playspace to properly experience all the VR games - Turning away from the 2 included cameras sometimes loses tracking - Games via the included Oculus Store are overpriced and you can't get a refund for them (buy through Steam if you can) - Headset needs to be TIGHT against your head for best effect - you won't want to wear it for more than a few hours at most

I'm a tech nerd so couldn't wait to get my hands on a Rift. Read countless reviews and chose the Rift over the Vive for a few reasons. 1) it was started by an American kid in his home, Luckey Palmer. Always love these American success stories. 2) it was reported as being lighter and more comfortable than the Vive and while I've never worn a Vive, I'm sure the Rift is lighter as I can't imagine a VR headset being any lighter than this one. The Vive had an edge with its hand controllers, Rift didn't have those but when I read the Oculus Touch controllers were coming out December 2016, that sealed the deal. 3) Game availability. Rift has an edge here because The Rift is compatible with the Vives main gaming website, Steam, however, Vive is NOT compatible with the Rifts site Oculus Home. Not only can I get content from where a Vive gets its content, I can get Content from Oculus where Vive isn't allowed at least as of this writing. So I'm glad I got the Rift and I'll like it even more when my Touch controllers arrive any day. The specs concerning refresh rate and resolution between the 2 headsets seem to be about the same. Games, especially Eve Valkyrie are super cool. They're hard to explain, you just really need to experience them for yourself. Get you one, you won't be disappointed but make sure your computer is capable of running the headset.

It's awesome, plain and simple. Some games don't work great and steam content can be quirky but Oculus is clearly labeled Beta...which means experimental still. And if this is 1st generation experimental...I can't wait to see what it evolves towards. Everyone that tries it is amazed. Buy it!!

    VR is a gamechanger

As a gamer I was well informed about the resurgence of VR in 2013 by Palmer Lucky who built a prototype VR headset. That VR unit gave birth to the Oculus Rift that we have in stores today. VR is a gamechanger! The oculus rift doesn't rival reality, but it does a great job convincing you that you are some where else. If you are playing a well crafted VR game, there is a good chance you will feel as if you were transporting into that video game. If you are experiencing a virtual hiking trail, you will feel like you are out in nature. Have a look over a near by cliff, feel free to look over that cliff and you will feel as if you just might fall over. VR has lots of functions built in to trick your mind into believing you are some where else. The Oculus rift build quaility is very good. It is made of tough plastic. The screen embedded within the unit high quality, bright, and colorful. The headset is comfortable on my face and the sound quality is great. The rift is east to setup thanks to the oculus rift setup wizard. You will want to make sure your computer has the right hardware to run the oculus rift. The oculus rift alone is 50% of the package. In my opinion you will need to have the touch controllers as well to complete the experience.

I will start but saying that I've been intrigued by VR gaming for quite some time now but the rather large price tag kept me from indulging. Like most, the curiosity got the best of me and I took a gamble and bought the oculus rift and the touch controls. I have absolutely no regrets about dropping 500 dollars on this setup. Setup was a little frustrating as the sensors can be a little tricky to get the proper placement, however once I got the hardware set up it was smooth sailing doing the software install. I was blown away from the very beginning. The little intro to the oculus makes you feel fully immersed and was an experience I was not expecting but I was pleasantly surprised. I would just suggest that anyone interested make sure that your computer is able to handle VR before you make the purchase.

Where do I start...ok I have gearvr, psvr which is colleting dust and now the oculus. Let me say the oculus prove me wrong. It's awesome the games looks great. The touch controllers feels comfortable. No motion sickness. Beside you needing a third sensor and positioning them right for room scaling it's a good buy. The Rift is an excellent VR headset. There are now plenty of games available, both through the Oculus platform and through Steam. Compared to the Vive, this does almost just as well. I'd say the controllers are better, however the Vive's tracking for 360 degrees is better while the Rift mostly does 180 degrees facing forward, but you can purchase additional sensors to make it 360 degrees.

Okay... Welcome to VR. It's finally here. From the time I stuck my head in the pseudo VR systems of the 90s, I've wanted this. Okay, so the good, the bad and the ugly... here goes: There are three things VR is good for, from what I can tell: 1) Cockpit games - Games where you are in the cockpit of a vehicle (Project Cars / Dangerous Elite...etc.) feels natual and emersive... providing you have a HOTAS and I driving wheel. As long as you have those, life is good and you'll have a blast. 2) Movies - This includes 2D, 3D (awesome!) and 360 virtual experiences... Can't be beat! Really, give it a try. 3) 1st person... lacking. With no hand controlers native to Oculus, you are stuck with a controller. Sound like I'm being petty? Maybe, but there's something super-emersive to having hand controls in VR. I bought a Leap Motion Controler to give myself something use. It really improves emersion! god Rays - The ugly side of Oculus... Okay, white letters on a black background will cause your lenses to flair like when you look at the sun through glass. Doesn't sound bad until you find out that EVERY freaking Oculus developer wants to put white letters on a black background. Still, this is proabaly the worst of Oculus, and I find it very tolerable. Annoying yes, but tolerable. All in all, it's a great experience. Once Sony VR comes out, I'm expecting a larger number of developers to create new experiences. That's when this will hit mainstream and start maturing. And yes, I'd still buy it again.

I had the chance of getting the oculus rift in May when a few came out, waited in line with 2 other friends, it was worth the wait, had many chances to show my family members that have never experienced VR, what it was all about, they were blown away. It was very easy to setup on my computer, however, my motherboards USB 3.0 slots would not work, I had to order a USB 3.0 card to be able to get it working, reason was my USB 3.0 on my motherboard was rather dated, a newer one was required. I have since purchased a steering wheel to go along with the VR, racing sims seem so real and are quite an enjoyment, I have fun showing VR to many of my friends and taking it along to get togethers so that others that have never experienced VR first hand can see what its all about

Before the Oculus Rift was released, my hype was off the charts. Then they announced the price, and I felt deflated. Fast forward a year, and we've essentially gotten a 50% price cut on what is really a revolutionary little piece of hardware. If you've got a beefy computer and are curious about VR, the time is now! VR has to be experienced to be believed, but it IS amazing!

I got the Oculus Rift for my spouse as a gift. I was skeptical if I would even be using this to play games, being a casual gamer, but I alone have clocked in several weeks worth of hours in a two month period. The set up is easy. On the Oculus homepage, they provide you with the software you need and a program to check to see if your computer meets the requirements to use the Rift. Comfort wise, it's on the heavy side, but I can have up to an hour of game play time with no trouble. For me, my neck gets tired after prolonged use. Also, if you play any physically rigorous games, you may notice that it's easy to get the rubber/foam pad contact point of the Rift and your face can get very wet from sweat. I'm not sure how hygienic it is as the rubber/foam pad cannot be removed. Otherwise, the Rift delivers what it promises, and it has brought me closer to my spouse through gaming together.

I wear glasses and went in to Best Buy to try a demo first before buying the oculus rift. It is pretty comfy and easy to get on so I used it for a couple weeks then started to notice some minor scratches on the lenses of the rift. It is not too noticeable but be very careful if you use it with glasses as to not scratch the lenses. Otherwise it's great, I love the experiences
