Customers are saying

Customers enjoy the immersive VR experience and the comfortable design of the Rift Headset, frequently praising its lightweight feel and intuitive touch controllers. However, some users point to the lower resolution and resulting screen door effect as drawbacks, while others mention occasional motion sickness and compatibility issues with certain games or hardware. The available content library is also a point of contention for some customers. Despite these shortcomings, many appreciate the headset's overall performance and value for the price.

I think VR is the future for sure

I really think that VR is the next big thing, but in its current state its not quite ready for mainstream. Its a large purchase on its own and you really need a $1000 gaming pc that was built recently with high end parts. The games that are well optimized play well on my budget gaming pcs (AMD FX8320e + RX480 4gb gpu) Crossfire is generally not supported so my minimum recommendation for a GPU right now is a Geforce 1070. My average framerate in warthunder went from 220 down to 70fps and you generally want to maintain 90fps for immersion. It made all my non vr games boring over night, which makes me a little sad because I was really enjoying overwatch prior to my VR purchase. the resolution of the headset when gaming is acceptable, but it can be hard to read fonts. Overall I think the oculus is a quality headset, but at the moment waiting for software to come out for it -- I was really excited about resident evil 7 just to find out its only licensed to sony for VR. So your options are doom 3 bfg with mods, arizonia sunshine which locks you out of features unless you have a new core i7, elite dangerous, eve valkerie and a bunch of mini games / software options like big screen. In conclusion I recommend you take a serious look at VR but know about the high computer requirements for an enjoyable experience.

The oculus rift and two touch controllers are more of a vehicle than pieces of hardware for your PC because they literally can take you anywhere without leaving your home. You can go inside the human body and explore your organs and cells, to outer space on missions to any planet on the galaxy. You can turn your desktop into a 50 ft screen on the moon and watch movies or play other games that aren't compatible with the full VR experience. The social aspect is also incredible, you can play VR cards against humanity with random people or a group of you're friends! My favorite is the player versus player content because you're avatar moves the same way you do by the tracking sensors, so you can make your wild west avatar dab after you win a Quickdraw contest against some unlucky person. This is only the tip of the iceberg and the future of VR like to be very bright!

I have an HTC Vive and got the Rift when they went on sale. It's much lighter and the Touch controllers blow away the Vive controllers. You need to get a third sensor though. Room scale is a must. The only downside is that unlike the Vive that only uses 1 USB 3.0 port, a full setup needs 3 USB 3.0 and a 2.0 port.

We would not have purchased this were it not for getting it in a package deal with a gaming PC. With the money saved, I also picked up the touch controllers. With the touch controllers, it is a great deal of fun. I was personally shocked at how immersive the VR experience is, and with the touch controllers, how impressive the motion tracking is with just two cameras. The images are beautiful, the headset is easy to adjust, and the touch controllers (not included with the headset) are fabulous. Set up was much faster and easier than I expected as well. The only real issue both my kids and I have with it right now is finding the right VR experiences. They love job simulator, but it is a pretty limited game. A few of the included games are fun, but most of the games we've tried are either games ported from a non-vr setting that don't take true advantage of the VR capabilities, or they are just far more limited in scope than traditional console or PC games, though the VR effect is cool. I do not regret the purchase at all, but I would recommend anyone thinking about it to wait a few months for new headsets coming out from a variety of manufacturers before taking the plunge. If you do buy one, I think the touch controllers as an add on are a must.

Loads of fun once you get it setup and your play space set up. Good price point for it as well unlike the other headset for $800 this was a better selling point period. I like that it came with 6 free games and the touch controllers, I only hate that I missed by one day getting even valkryie with it.

Hi folks! I been a serious gamer for more then a decade and find this amazing. It is a great start! So far I bought Star Trek and find myself immersed in the Star Trek universe. Yes, I did the tutorials. I have desktop computer and the original hardware was not up to VR standards for the Ocules. I built my own computers for over a decade. After running the test at the Ocules site, I discovered that I needed to replace my graphics card with a faster VR ready one. I highly recommend using a SSD instead of a HD for gaming. Hard Drives bottle neck the system memory and CPU. My original system memory was 16 gigs of 2133Mhz. Ther were times that while I played Star Trek or Robo Recall, I would run out of either system memory or out of my 8 gigs of video memory and the games would crash. I fix the crash problem by replacing my system memory with 32 gigs at 2400Mhz. The games run as smooth as silk. Yeah Baby! Sure there is room for improvement, but this is a great start Mark Z! By the way, PS4 can run it too.

Got this instead of the Vive, it's awesome. Along with all the Oculus Home games you can play games on Steam VR! Great headset, although you need the Touch controllers to fully experience the Rift! Great buy, even got one for a family member and they love it too. Would definitely buy again.

The oculus rift is amazing! The future sets on the horizon, and that horizon is VR. I purchased the rift and have been very pleased with it, and even more now that I have the rift touch controls. NOTE: Although there are laptops that claim VR ready, they are not. Yes, they can technically run the vr app, but they can't handle 98% of the vr world. I purchased a razer blade 14 to use originally. Amazing computer, absolutely loved it. i7, 16ram, gtx1060 but it would still lag and drop frames to the point of making the rift (and the vive) unusable. Talking to several people I've mostly confirmed vr can't reliably run on a laptop or the mobile version of the graphics cards. I picked up a desktop and its been a dream ever since. Highly recomended.

I finally took the plunge into VR with this recent summer sale price! I bet an update is coming to the hardware but nevermind that! I finally get a taste of VR at a reasonable price and it was amazing!! Is it perfect? No. But the offerings for VR are getting much much better with time. One of the free games, Robo recall is highly polished and very intense! Super Hot VR let's you play like with matrix like action. It's a completely new gaming experience if you've never tried it. The package comes with the rift, touch, and two sensors which is adequate, but consider picking up a third sensor for full 360 detection.... and make sure you have enough space. They have you draw out the borders of your play area and will display a translucent grid wall as you start to approach it... but you don't even notice them when the action gets too intense so i'd still end up smacking walls and other obstructions...

I bought this after slowly building up a PC that could run it smoothly. I have been very happy with it overall, but had some technical issues at first. The oculus tech support is very limited, but there is a lot of good troubleshooting info online. Since first few days of optimizing and proper settings, it has run flawlessly since. There is a good variety of games and apps available for free or low cost, and much more on the way (current games are generally limited in depth though). I would recommend this if your computer is close to specs and you like VR (check out a demo at BB if you haven't yet).

Being in a virtual world racing or shooting robots is incredibly realistic. My girlfriend got so tricked by the immersion that she tried to take off running and almost destroyed my entire system. The headset is comfortable and the speakers sound great. Love it!

I have this and a PSVR. I like them both. There is a lot more content for the Rift and many I have tried have been excellent. This has less wires to the headset and better resolution but the screen door effect is more obvious. The touch controllers are great and the tracking is superior to the PS4.

I have tried the vive head set but the Oculus Rift is more lighter and tracks pretty nicely. I have not tried the touch controllers but will eventually. Please keep in mind that this is an early adoption when buying so games wont be diverse until late 2017/2018.

There is no way to describe the impact of Virtual Reality on the Oculus Rift to someone who has never experienced it first hand! What I can say is; It does put the viewer into a new reality. View landscapes, seascapes or the world as if you are really there! Or be dropped into a completely animated world, where it feels like you can actually interact with the characters! Be immersed into the video game your playing, or feel your stomach actually turn riding a rollercoaster! VR is (in my opinion) here to stay, and each day it grows and grows. The library of content continues to expand and now much of the content designed for the HTC VIVE is compatible with the Oculus Rift! For me, it was money well spent!

Ok so you've decided you're ready to get into the VR side of the gaming world. You've come down to the same 2 choices everyone comes to, Oculus rift or htc vive. Well, I'm here to tell you that Oculus rift is the way to go. Not only is the Oculus headset more comfortable and lighter than the vive's, it comes with integrated audio/headphones and mic built right in. If you're getting the Oculus you have to get the touch controllers which will bring your total cost to up to around 800 bucks which is the same price the htc vive is anyway. As far as room scale goes, once upon a time htc was ahead of the game when it came to room scale but now you can purchase an extra sensor for your Oculus rift, bringing your total sensors to 3 (if u get the touch controllers). With the 3 sensors, u can now have 360 degree full room scale with the Oculus rift. It all works great.
