So... I had quite a few issues with the headset at first, and actually exchanged the original headset thinking that the headset itself was damaged (it wasn't). If you have black screen or tracking issues, it's due to lack of power from the USB port. I ended up connecting mine to my mobo's USB-C port and now it works flawlessly. If you have an MSI board, make sure you're in VR mode, or connect to a USB 3.1 port. Otherwise, I think the headset is a major improvement over the CV1. I love the improved resolution, improved tracking (it's more consistent), and ease of setup. Yes the audio isn't great, but I use bluetooth when playing alone, or use my external speakers alongside the headset audio. I definitely consider this an upgrade over the CV1 and ended up giving my original Rift to my brother.

The whole family loves playing with the Oculus Rift! It was very easy to set up. In fact, with my supervision, I had my 11 year old son set it up on his computer. Once you have it connected on your computer you will need to download the Oculus app. Once you have everything set up, it will take you through a tutorial to help you become acquainted with the controllers and your play area. Let's talk about the hardware. Don't be fooled by the bulky looking headset, it is quite light on your face. My son wears glasses and he didn't have any issues wearing the headset. The controllers are very intuitive and easy to use. My only complaint with the whole Oculus is the wire that connects the headset to the computer. No one in my family complained about the length, my complaint is that after a week the wire started to kink. I am worried that it will stop working after a while. We love the amount of games available in the Oculus library, there is something for everyone. This is our first venture into the VR world and we love it. If you are looking for an easy to use and good quality VR system for your computer then I recommend the Oculus Rift.

I'm a long-time Rift-user (pre-ordered the original on day one) and I bought the Rift-S thinking it would be a modest upgrade to visuals, a more convenient tracking system, and a couple nice new features. And unlike the other new VR systems coming out this year, I wouldn't have to spend thousands on a new PC just to run it.. Well, as soon as I put the Rift-S on, I was blown away. The resolution increase may have sounded modest on paper, but combined with better lenses and subpixel count of the LCD screens, the difference is HUGE! Textures and video? High definition. SDE? I can't see any whatsoever! Godrays? Significantly reduced. Colors and clarity? Brighter and sharper! And those black levels, that everyone assumed would be worse "because it's an LCD screen"? They honestly look just as good as they did on the original Rift. The new Passthrough camera feature is incredibly useful, as well. With a double-tap of a button, I can bring up a monochrome real-world view, making it easy to reach for a drink, move a chair, or see what kind of mischief the cat is getting up to. And while the original Rift was already one of the most comfortable headsets on the market, Rift-S is on a whole other level. I think it technically weighs more than the original Rift, but it's distributed so well, and every part that contacts your face is well padded. You can tighten it on as snugly as it can get, and still remain comfortable for hours. The tracking has some limited occlusion areas, but so did my previous four-sensor setup.. and now I don't have to worry about it going crazy every time the cat bumps into one, or my overloaded usb hubs run short on bandwidth. Guardian setup itself is both far easier and faster, all being done within the headset, in seconds. Really, the only downside to this new system is the audio. The onboard speakers give acceptable volume and positional audio, but there's just no bass.. fortunately, that can be solved by plugging in earbuds or headphones. Still, I'm hoping Oculus or some third party comes out with a good, special-made audio accessory for the Rift-S. Overall, it's INCREDIBLE what you get for $400, and could probably run on a $600 computer. More importantly, Oculus still continues to pump more money into VR content development than any other company, giving us AAA content that really puts the Rift-S visuals to use. Sure, you could spend $1000 on some other headset, and have to buy a $2000 PC just to run it, but if almost all the content available is low-budget shovelware, what good will it do you? If you ask me, a real VR enthusiast would go for the Rift-S, and invest all the money they save on a good pair of headphones and some PC hardware upgrades, so they can run all those gorgeous Oculus Studios titles at maximum graphics settings.

The Rift S is So Cool

I had a Samsung Gear VR that I didn't use much because it just wasn't all that. This is my first VR system that is connected to my computer and man is it cool. The Rift S is so immersive and so comfortable to use. I was playing around learning how to use an app called Medium and I lost all track of time. It was so engrossing and fun, and it's not even a game! The headset is padded in all the right places and the weight is evenly distributed. There's only one cable connecting you to the computer and it's plenty long. There are lots of games and apps available in different genres so there's something for everyone to enjoy. The Oculus Rift S gets us one sweet step closer to walking into the Holodeck.

    Vast Improvement Over Previous Version

I have owned a lot of VR headsets over the last 3 years. I had the HTC Vive on launch, the PSVR on launch, the Gear VR, and the original Oculus Rift. The Vive I had for about 4 months, and the PSVR for 3 weeks before returning each of them due to very annoying and challenging set up processes that they entailed every time I wanted to use them. The original Rift was by far much easier, reliable and comfortable compared to the other two headsets, but it still wasn’t the best VR experience for me. I recently purchased the Oculus Go and even though it only offers 3 degrees of freedom it was a pure joy for me to use and I have spent on average of 3 hours a day on it over the last 2 months. Last week I bought the new Rift S because it had huge improvements. The sharper images coupled with some of the best lenses in VR today offer incredible visual clarity, especially in its price range. Everyone hates on Oculus for using an LCD panel instead of OLED for the Rift S. That’s just stupid, since the same people aren’t complaining that all the other high end VR headsets coming out are smart enough to do the same thing. The HP Reverb, LCD, the Valve Index, LCD, yet nobody says anything negative about them. There is a reason why all the top VR headsets are switching to LCD, it’s because they can greatly reduce both God rays or halo effect and the SDE or screen door effect. Even though OLED offers a better contrast solution, it isn’t worth the trade off, and to tell you the truth, I don’t notice any difference between the original Rift and the Rift S as far as contrast goes, so I am very happy with Oculus choice to go with an LCD panel. People also complain about the Rift S lack of a physical IPD slider. Again this is mostly moot, since the new lenses that are used in the Rift S have a much larger sweet spot for viewing so for the vast majority of people out there it can accommodate their individual IPD without needing adjustment. If you feel the need to enter your exact IPD measurements you can in the settings screen and the software can make the appropriate adjustments. I find it funny that people made a big deal about the Oculus Quest having a physical IPD slider, yet that slider gives no indication numerically of what your IPD is. You can’t set it to your IPD prescription. Its like having a speedometer on a car without any numbers, or a watch without hands, but everyone seems to be happy with it anyway. The Rift S is by far an amazing VR headset that I really enjoy and have spent quite a bit of time using over the last week. It is extremely comfortable fir me to wear and is very balanced on my head with plenty of room for my glasses. For previous Rift owners, you will notice that the cable that connects the Rift S to your computer is longer which is a welcome change but it’s also much stiffer due to the cable being thicker which I don’t like since the cable is now more noticeable to me than it was on the original Rift. The other downside for me is the cheapness of the feel of the headset and touch controller build. The Rift S feels as plasticy and flimsy as the PSVR headset. I am constantly afraid I will break the headsets halo ring when taking off the headset as the adjusting dial in the back feels like it can strip when tightening or loosing. The lack of needing external sensors to have to set up and take up USB slots is very freeing and makes using the Rift S much more enjoyable and fun and it can be used much quicker. Pass through plus is also a welcome addition allowing me to see what is going on in my room with just a double click of the menu button. The bottom line is I am a very happy customer and expect to have amazing VR experiences in the Rift S for the next few years until the Rift 2 comes out.

Nice visuals, clear text and the black levels where better than I thought it would be. I thought the sound wasn't that bad and the sound levels where pretty loud at 100 percent. If you turn up your computer volume up 100 percent too, it will be loud. It did lack bass, but over all I thought it was good. Tracking was excellent.

    Amazing!

The Rift S is amazing! The image quality is greatly improved over the original, gone are blurry texts. The tracking on the device is very good, I had the original rift and while the tracking was great, I was a tad limited by the locations of the sensors, and since I have a small space to play it made it a bit hard to play room scale games, with this one I’m able to do it easier because I can make the game view face another direction where I have more space, this was impossible to do with the previous version bc of the camera locations. My only complaint...true audio on this is trash. Just...horrible, it’s very low, if people are talking in the background or you have the tv going, it’ll be really hard to hear what’s happening in the game. Oculus is aware of this and they said that a patch is in the works to increase the audio. If you have the original, I would only upgrade if you’re able to sell it for 200-250 and then pay the difference. Otherwise, it’s not worth it.

Really good headset. Makes connecting to PC really easy and don’t have to worry about charging it. The box it comes in is really sturdy and the best place to store when not using.

VR gaming is still growing and is nowhere near as popular as PC gaming (noise & keyboard) or console gaming. The target audience for VR are early/ish adopters who more likely than not have powerful PCs. The oculus rift was held back by using graphics cards that are much slower than what is available today. With the major performance sacracfice I expected the headset to at least have a wireless option. Pros: No external sensors needed Cons: Major performance sacrifice for backwards compatibility The wire on the headset gets in the way a lot when compared to the Rift Quest Reduced refresh rate

    Check your specs before buying!

I bought a "VR ready" laptop about a year ago anticipating buying a headset in the future. The Oculus rift S has fewer wires than the Rift and seemed perfect for me with its inside out camera system. The one caveat that this headset (and probably many others) has is that it needs to connect directly to the graphics card for its display capabilities. The headset uses DISPLAY PORTS and has and adapter for MINI DISPLAY PORTs. a thunderbolt port can work with a 3rd party seller but that thunderbolt port HAS TO BE DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO A DEDICATED GRAPHICS CARD. I learned that many gaming laptops do not directly connect the dedicated graphics card to anything other than the HDMI port for battery conservation reasons (and probably other reasons) TLDR; Great headset, im sure, but the headache of getting it to work on my laptop was terrible. Check your ports and see if they are DIRECTLY connected to your dedicated GPU. if not, youre SOL. Get the quest

First I would like to point I really did enjoy it at first. However I have had a ton of issues with software, the link cable working , and not to mention the fact that oculus sells' games and you don't receive them. I would never recommend this headset to anyone. If you want a good headset buy the valve index. Link below Buy this instead https://store.steampowered.com/valveindex

Headset is amazing, Works great when I first got it, but Being oculus the software has issues and as of September 23, 2020, the headset is currently broken for me. Stuck seeing a static passthrough screen unable to complete setup. Its not BestBuy's fault, its Oculus/Facebook.
