Broke in 3 weeks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had to send it to be fixed literally after 3 weeks. We couldn’t exchange because it is a 2-week warranty. It got fixed but who wants to lose his gaming computer after 3 weeks of paying $1000 .

Good Value at Price Point with Potential
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I want to go ahead and get my gripe with this gaming laptop out of the way. At this price point I expect some sort of Solid State technology to help improve load times and boot time for Windows. The drive in here is a moderately fast HDD at 7200 RPM, but it certainly doesn't keep pace with an SSD nor an SSHD. A SSHD would've been the happy compromise here since you do still want to have a large amount of storage for games. The laptop does however offer an expansion slot for an NVMe SSD which will definitely benefit this laptop as the CPU is certainly not a bottleneck. Initially I had issues with the screen. I noticed some minor screen bleeding around the edges, but overall it's a solid 1080p IPS LED Monitor at 60 Hz. Not enthusiast grade, but really well balanced for the GTX 1050 that is powering it as most games will run at Ultra 1080p around 40-60 fps. Doom was the hardest title that I threw at the computer and was mostly around the high fifties in frame rate with some dips into the high forties. Perfectly playable even for PC Master Race people. The CPU make me wonder a bit. It's actually a bit overkill for this system. If it had a GTX 1060 and we could be talking some 2K gaming or even lighter 4K then absolutely would justify it, but with the 1050 I'd rather see a Quad Core i5 and both an SSD and a HDD if you're not intending to upgrade this model. If you are then great you'll enjoy the extra multimedia capabilities that the Core i7 offers making this a fierce mobile workstation especially considering it's relatively light weight for being a gaming laptop. 8 GBs of memory in this model and I feel great about it. They offer an extra slot if you want to upgrade this model to 16, and I could see it going either way. If you plan to use it as a workstation go for 16. Otherwise stick with 8 for gaming purposes. Really overall this is a laptop that with further investment can really be something special and is still a really well built laptop even with it's pre-built set.

Good value for a fast laptop.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have enjoyed using this laptop with the exception of a few minor issues that I can't even knock a star off for. I'm not a heavy gamer and the games that I do play are not normally new games. -Build/Looks: This laptop looks good, is a good weight, a good thickness but what follows is really my only issue with the laptop. The build quality doens't seem very good. From the moment I opened the laptop I got a 'POP' noise from the bottom right hand part of the screen. I thought it was just a tight hinge but it's actually the bottom plastic bezel part of the screen that is getting hung up on the beveled plastic part of the keyboard area. Once I figured out what it was, I tried opening it several different ways. The best way I found was to open it slightly, let go of the screen part and let pressure off of it. Very strange. I haven't seen anyone else mention this in reviews so maybe I'll look into the issue a little closer and see if I can remedy it. The plastic on the backside of the screen part looks cool, but feels cheap. The keyboard offers a red backlight that was annoying at first but I grew to like it. Now, I leave it on all the time. -Sound: The speakers sound good enough for whatever I used them for, however if you're buying this laptop you are likely to be using a headset. -Screen: The screen quality looks really good. On a black screen, I did notice some bleed thru at the bottom of the screen. That could be from the popping screen every time I open the laptop, or it could be just the way it is. Either way, not a big deal for me as the colors look true and crisp. -Performance: For a person who does not game alot, this laptop is a gem. Boot up is fast and it's performance is smooth like butter. Sure a SSD would be nice but the HDD seems to work great for the slightly older games I play as is. The laptop is easily upgraded by removing a few screws, if that's what you'd like to do. Playing games at higher settings resulted in an excellent performance and this machine stayed cool the entire time. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 works great! As said earlier, I can't knock a star off for the screen popping. This is a very impressive laptop. If you absolutely need a SSD out of the box or have to have a little bigger screen, then maybe this laptop is not the one for you. If you're looking to get a good laptop for gaming that has a good, fast engine that you could possibly build on later and won't break the bank? Then check this one out, it'll be worth it.

Great design
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Omen by hp Pros The build quality is absolutely amazing. The carbon fiber pattern with the brushed aluminum make for a great design. The red accents don’t hurt either. The screen has really good resolution and great viewing angles. Viewing content on this laptop is wonderful. The keyboard is great as well. The keys are responsive and have a cool red backlight(too bright at times) Battery life is pretty standard for a laptop around 5-6 hours. Cons Not being able to reduce the brightness of the keys is a turn off. It’s either on or off. This is not a deal breaker just something I do not like. Overall there is a lot of value here. A wonderfully crafted laptop with excellent resolution and pretty decent specs. Only a few minor issues that do not take away from the experience in any way but nothing is perfect. This computer is definitely worth the price of admission.

Good laptop...if there weren't some issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Firstly, I wanted to say that the HP-Omen is a good laptop; which is why I gave it 3 stars. However, some of its' issues dock points for me. I bought this laptop 09/19/2017. Now, its 09/30/2017 ( 11 days ). By "Pros" are listed below my rant. During these 11 days, I had an issue with: >> Start-up load | boot time ( 10:00 minutes to load | boot up ) >> Graphic Card Flickering >> Lower frame-rate when connecting to HDMI >> Issues when connecting your laptop to a TV via HDMI >> Switching from viewing a video from normal to Full Screen >> At times, program start-ups like Microsoft Word tend to "not respond". >> Closing the lid issues For the load time issue, I solved it by going into the Windows Services ( Cortana => input "Services" ) and setting "App Readiness" to Manual. That fixed my loading issue; however, I don't believe that someone should go into the computer's settings and change a service to fix a computer that they just bought. Graphic Card Flickering, Lower frame-rate, and HDMI issues might be considered under the same category as "Graphic Card Issues". When plugging your laptop into a television via HDMI so you can watch YouTube or play some type of game on a bigger screen, the smoothness of the video can be compared to rolling a '2' or '4' on a 6-sided dice. If you roll those numbers, your video will work with a slight issue ( slower video speed ). Otherwise, your computer screen will flicker for a little bit; your TV will pick up your screen; but the video that is playing on your laptop, will not been seen on the TV. The TV screen of the video or game will be black. ( Video does not show ). This happened to me when I wanted to watch Netflix and HULU from my laptop and wanted to connect my laptop to my TV using an HDMI. My laptop flickered, my TV displayed my screen, but the video was black. Vice-Versa happened when trying to unplug the HDMI and plug it back in. Apart from the aforementioned issues, while playing a game ( since this laptop has 4GB of NVIDIA GTX 1050 Graphics ), my frame-rate drops down from 60fps ( smooth video and gameplay ) to 30fps, 22fps, or 18fps. When you unplug the HDMI from the laptop and only use the laptop screen, the frame-rate returns to 60fps. When switching from viewing a video from normal mode ( windowed ) to Full Screen, the loading | buffering of the video take a longer time to load due to the switch. When wanting to scan your computer for viruses ( AVAST Antivirus ) or detect malware ( Malwarebytes ), most people change their settings to have the ability to close the laptop ( lid ) and have their computer scan its' contents with a closed lid. For me, the computer paused the scan, waited 12 hours upon my return, and then continued its' scan. My computer went to sleep instead of "do nothing" when I close my lid. I have never had this issue; until, I bought this HP-Omen. Maybe Windows did an update and broke their Settings operations. That, also, comes into my mind. What I love about this computer are: >> Keyboard ( and lights ) >> Screen Size and Screen Quality >> 4 core ( 8 threads ) processor >> Usually, the programs load extremely fast. I am, pleasantly, pleased with this.

Nice gaming laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I like the HP Omen laptop because it runs games at fairly high frames for a laptop, it is sleek, it is very quiet, even when running games at ultra/high quality, the speakers are very nice, I personally like the gamer look of it, but others may not. Though I wish you could change the color of the back-light of the built in keyboard. The battery life isn't the best. Although it is not as fast as my desktop which is an i5-6500 and a GTX 960, it can still run games fairly fast. It is a solid laptop, but don't expect it to run like a desktop.

Great gaming laptop for the money
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the design of this laptop. From the color scheme to the layout it just looks like a mean machine, and it is...for the most part. Build quality and sturdiness is always a concern for me with HP laptops. I've honestly never been a big fan, and this one isn't particularly any more solid than others I've used. Hopefully it will hold up. Under the hood, the i7 processor does its job and does it very well. Windows 10 with the 8gig of memory runs very well as do the games I've tried out. Granted, most of my games are older. But the GPU is strong enough for most modern games at 1080p, just don't expect to run 60fps+ on most at this price range. Sound is above average, but most serious gamers are going to be using a decent headset anyway. The biggest drawback to the laptop is the lack of a SSD. I know this cuts the cost down a good chunk because 1tb SSDs are still fairly costly. But with an i7, 8gig of ram, GTX graphics, and Windows 10...the hard drive is certainly the bottleneck. It is a 7200 rpm so it isn't terrible, but for those of us that are used to the SSD speed, it is noticeable. Overall, despite the lack of a SSD, this is a stellar performer and a very nice gaming laptop. For the money, I think it is a really good value.

Great gaming laptop for the average gamer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP OMEN, what is it?, what does it do?, and is it a right fit for you? The HP omen is a out of the box straight up game ready laptop. For those of you who hardcore gamers this review may not be for you seeing as how you probably already know what you want. But for those curious and considering diving into the world of PC gaming i'll try to keep this as simplistic as possible. Out of the box i think the omen looks pretty sleek. Each opinion is different but i really like the sleek look and brushed aluminum design. The back light keyboard is almost a must in any gaming laptop and the red back lights behind the keys looks pretty nice. My only complaint is there is no option to dim the light. Sound quality is great, i mean i was actually very surprised at the fact that i really didn't need to put headphones in order to take in all the complete sound of my games. i really want to focus on performance though. The HP omen is geared towards bringing you a on the go power house laptop that can handle just about any game out there. It accomplishes this by giving you a laptop that has pretty much has most of the newest hardware you would expect to see in a performance laptop. I want to talk briefly about the specs without getting too in depth seeing as how all specs can be found right here on the best buy website. The omen contains a gen 7 intel core processor, basically meaning that you can push through multiple task and file transfer with little to no effort and lag. The laptop does run smoothly however i did notice a little more down time on my file transfer and downloads then i was expecting to see on this type of processor and hard drive. For me personally this was kinda of disappointing due to the fact there is no CD/Disk drive in this laptop so all games must be downloaded or file transferred. That's right there is no CD drive so keep that in mind if you have a disk your planing on downloading off of. The graphics card is a NVIDIA GTX 1050, this is actually a very good graphics card. Not the top of the line by any means but definitely no weakling either. I like to play MMOs and one of my favorite games to play is FFXIV Stormblood online. This game has beautiful scenery and the omen had no issue whatsoever putting out all this game had to offer with the GTX 1050. When im playing online i really like to get submersed in the back ground, the omen did a really good job out bringing out all shadow rendering, texturing and color with such ease that i truly saw no need to upgrade the graphics card. Speaking of which thats another area i actually like about the omen, and thats the ability to upgrade. The graphics card is a stand alone which allows you to upgrade it as technology increases and even gives you the ability to overclock if your wanting the extra boost. And dont worry the omen has two big air intakes to help keep it cool and i mean they were bigger then i was expecting but thats a good thing cause all that power generates heat, and heat destroys. When the fans came on they were really quite and yes the laptop does get hot but it was never to the point of burning, in fact the hottest i ever felt was just a step above mildly warm. I had no temp gun to check the actual temp but its nothing to really talk about. Battery life wasn't bad either i got a solid six hours of battery life with all my settings turned up before it died out. This is about average for a good laptop as i've seen with my other rigs. Now there are some features that this laptop should of had that i felt are necessary for a good gaming laptop. The keyboard lacks pretty bad, the keys are more sunken in then i would like. They also lack the ability of having built in macros and mechanical keys i feel are always a must when you are building a gaming system. This is a preference issue and may not affect you whatsoever if you are new to gaming, however if you game often and are seasoned this may be a big turn off. The screen displays in full 1080 HD, this is nice and definitely brings out the quality of games but i would of liked to see this in a true 4k quality resolution instead. Lets talk about display response time, display response time is the computers ability to change from one color to the next without blurring (or ghosting). For the most part i saw no issues whatsoever while playing FFXIV and Battlefield. Everything ran fine and when i ran my own personal test i was getting response times of about 25ms. For most people 25ms can be considered sluggish but in all honesty i never once saw any blurring or issues whatsoever and thats a good thing considering i was playing a pretty fast paced game like battlefield. I can dive really deep into the specs and dissect this laptop piece by piece but all in all its a solid gaming laptop for the beginner. If you are barely getting into pc gaming or are on a budget definitely go this route this is the best bang for your buck by far and you will not be disappointed. If you are however dedicated to your gaming and money is no an issue then i would pass on this set up and get something that at least has a better keyboard set up. pros: -sleek design -good battery life -awesome speakers -solid graphics -keyboard back light -priced right cons: -No dimming options for key back light -Lack of built in macros -Lack of mechanical keys

Nice laptop with some missing features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop is a solid build with some very nice looks. I love the red look with the red backlit keyboard. The graphics are very good and I was surprised with the non-glossy screen. It works excellent as a business machine, but it seems a bit slow for gaming. The separate number pad is very nice and the graphics response is good. Unlike some cheaper laptops, this sports a nice 1 TB 7200 RMP hard drive. There are an abundance of ports including a HDMI video port and a card reader. There is also a built in Ethernet connector.. Overall, this is a very nice laptop. Performance would be much better with a SSD drive, or even a hybrid drive. I will likely replace the existing drive with a SSD drive and double the RAM.
