Vocals are very melodic, and the music is heavier than the last cd.

Cover art alone is worth the price. Mastadon continues to evolve in a good way.

For those like me, you may notice that you need to listen to their songs more than once to "get" them... they definitely grow on you. Mastodon have never been afraid to keep tweaking their style. While this continues on their progressive side, they still play a lot of riffs and songs that sound like Remission and other early albums. While not as epic as "Crack the Skye", it definitely builds on what they were doing with "The Hunter" and pushes the boundaries a bit.

Once more 'round the sun is Mastodon at their absolute best. After their disappointing last album "The Hunter", Mastodon have returned with what is arguably their best album since "Blood Mountain". "Once More 'Round the Sun" takes all the best parts of "Blood Mountain" and "Crack the Skye" and blends them into a monstrous album of crushing hooks and grooving melodies. This album solidifies Mastodon as the absolute best metal band on the planet right now.

Once More Round The Sun isn't on the level of Crack the Skye or Blood Mountain but it still one of the better metal albums I've heard recently. It's an album that takes a bit getting used to as Mastodon continues to change their sound while still remaining the slug metal band you love. I would've given the album a higher rating but even after a dozen or so listens a few tracks leave me scratching head. Overall is say it worth a purchase just don't expect this one to top Mastodon's higher regarded albums.

This piece of work by Mastodon will not disappoint fans of very well blended music. There is something here for everyone. Hard hitting thunderous drums with tempo shifts & precision drumming.Awesome guitar riffs & crushing guitar rhythms with solid bass lines over the top of everything. Also, vocals that truly capture the feel of the song it represents with different emotions & attitude. For fans of vocal harmonizing as well.Mastodon is second to none in this genre of music. A very well rounded listen.

    A different sound for Mastodon...

I started listening to Mastodon after the Blood Mountain album, and went back to pick up the earlier releases. Once More 'Round the Sun is a different approach from the previous albums, still the same great musicanship, but some of the songs sound more like straightforward heavy rock tunes than what I like about the band. It's the dilemma of the artist - do the same thing as last time and get called out for it or do something new and get called out for it? Al told, it's good, but not great.

I love Mastodon but was a bit disappointed with The Hunter - hard to follow up Crack the Skye (that album is pure gold). This album is great and gets a little groovy at times. Still a bit off from their earlier sound, but it is a nice progression. Biggest issue is it gets repetitive and has more chorus' than they usually have; not a complete bad thing as it is very catchy and melodic.

Once More 'Round the Sun has arrived, and it's more of the same great music from one of today's top-tier metal acts. While not as varied an album as older works like The Hunter and Leviathan, the album maintains a high level sound from one full throttle song to the next. Standout tracks include The Motherload, Chimes at Midnight, Feast Your Eyes, and Ember City. Recommended for Mastodon fans and people who enjoy rock music with great musicianship.

I have been a fan of them for around 5 years and seen twice live. I enjoy technical (prog) music but some of their prior albums almost seemed blurry with the amount of things happening. Mastodon has added some killer grooves to this album and makes accessible for a wider audience without losing the heavy edge. Definitely worth checking out.

I've listened to this several times and the album keeps growing on me. This may not go down as one of their best cd's but I still enjoy it. It sounds more commercial to me, but that doesn't really bother me. I know it may upset some fans of the older really heavy stuff. If you are a fan you'll probably get it regardless. If you are new to the band start with some of their other cd's.

If you are a fan of heavy music, I would strongly suggest picking up this newest release by Mastodon. Mastodon is one of my favorite metal bands and they've put out a string of incredible albums...Once More 'Round The Sun is no exception! Highly recommended record!

Mastodon continue to evolve and improve with each successive album, and "Once More 'Round the Sun" is their best yet. Progressive but catchy, heavy but melodic, off-the-wall creative but not to the degree that it will exclude too many people. A fantastic record.

I own the entire Mastodon discog with the exception of the movie score they did, which is good too by the way. Always look forward to the new product from these guys. If you're gonna hate, hate the new Metallica (1990 black album and anything since).

This four piece show off their musical chops on what may be their greatest album to date. Each song has its differences that make it unique to the album even sometimes different vocalists for different songs. A must have for any metal fan!

Great metal album and is an awesome followup from their last album. Only thing I would honestly have liked as far as the mix is for the vocals to have been brought up in the mix, other than that it is worth getting!

It is hard to find any modern day metal band with any staying power. Mastodon is one that does fit the bill. This album is full of gems and give it 2 or 3 listens and it will stick in your head. Highly recommended.
