The action in this Chinese film (with English subtitles) takes place at the time when in the early 20th century Shanghai was controlled by various crime lords seeking to control and extend their territories as exemplified by many films of this type for example Shanghai Triad. The hero initially tries to get on with life without using his tremendous martial art skills but is eventually forced to fight for honour and his love in some really brutal fights.

This movie is a hybrid of period drama, 80's Hong Kong action fare and (towards the end) some retro Bruce Lee worship. Character motivations seem to be all over the place and the plot is not very focused but it kept my interest and the fight scenes were well done.

I enjoy this movie, the action was good but not over doing it. The video picture quality along with the audio quality was great. I like the old black & white style that they gave to the movie

I enjoyed this martial art movie it gave me a mobster feel with a little brotherly love. The story line was good and had me cheering for the bad guy trying to become a changed man.

My husband said it was a really good movie and he would watch it again. (My husband never watches a movie more then once.) He would recommend it to our sons.

This was an excellent movie. I really enjoyed everything about this movie. I would watch it over and over again. I will also recommend it to family and friends.

Not bad for ten bucks but a little boring at times. Story line a little choppy. Love my kung fu movies though.

If you're looking for an action packed movie this is it. The story is great and the language is in English. Trust me buy it !!!! Last thing Yuen Woo-ping helped with it and if you don't know the name shame on you.

This movie was great. If Ip Man was an evolution of the old intricately choreographed kung fu movies, this is the evolution of the old basher style kung fu movies. Phillip Ng is awesome.
