I've always used Denon in the past and got another one recently but was disappointed with it. Decided to go with Onkyo and I love it. Great power, easy to set up, works perfectly.

I upgraded from a 2 year old Onkyo receiver that had 4k HDMI ports but didn't support 4k HDR. As a bonus this model is THX certified, which sounds amazing. Setup is a breeze with the included microphone. Definitely recommend!

We have been working the "sound surround" systems for a long time. Had 3 Sony sets, 1 Pioneer, and now the 2nd Onkyo. This set, we went the whole route with & Got the 7.1 SKS-HT870 speaker set too. We have gotten the best seperation,(w/out distortion,) that we have had todate. We have gone through the latest Avengers,& movies of almost every kind. Also the 4thof July fireworks, Music programs of all types, at levels from VERY LOUD to very low volume. No distortion, only GREAT SOUND, GREAT SEPERATION of channels, no doubts for us, this is the BEST set-up we have owned. We even get excellent 7.1 sound from the weakest FM radio station in town...Sound is likebeing at the consert. Set-up was easy. All very enjoyable.

This receiver compliments my 4k tv very well, also has enough power to push 7 high powered speakers to very high levels. Very clean sound on cds and DVDs, I am very pleased with this receiver.

    Improvement over Previous Onkyo Receiver

I purchased this Onkyo to replace an older Onkyo model of similar quality and price. Both have 7.2 surround sound. Setting this new unit up was easy and fast. Reviews I had read had given this unit poor reviews about the quality of the knobs. But I can't figure out that criticism because the knobs seem very secure and of high quality. The sound and picture quality of this unit is excellent. I am using it for 4K pass through with programming coming from an amazon box and a DVD player with 4K capability. The picture quality is superb. Also, it upconverts lower quality signals to higher quality, and that is working well too.

This receiver is packed with so many advanced features more than you require. 8 HDMI in and 2 HDMI out , 4K and 3D pass through , 1260W means 180W per channel - too powerful n loud for the house and that’s without any sound distortion at the max volume . Fantastic Features are - 1. THX certified means sound exactly like u enjoy in cinema 2. 4K upscale means you can get high quality video upto 4K resolution even from a Lower quality video. It has adjustable 3 presets equalizer setting which works fantastic. This receiver gives Fantastic and distortion free sound at very low or very high volume. This is a really power packed receiver with so many feature at a very affordable price. I’m greatly satisfied and definitely would recommend to others to buy a this receiver. My advise to all Friends looking for a AV receiver- always buy a receiver which is THX certified and upscale video upto 4K.

    Not as good as Yamaha

I bought this Onkyo to replace a Yamaha receiver I purchased a few years ago that unfortunately got zapped during Hurricane Matthew even though it was connected to a high end surge protector. There are a few things I have complaints about. Both the Yamaha and the Onkyo are capable of playing two zones simultaneously with each using different options of playback. The Yamaha remote controlled both Zone 1 and Zone 2. The Onkyo remote only controls Zone 1. Zone 2 has to be controlled on the receiver itself or through an app. Trying to control Zone 2 on the receiver is very tricky and somewhat confusing and frustrating. I gave up on it and only use the app. After setting up the ARC control it worked perfectly for a few days and then stopped. I went back through the setup again and once again the ARC worked properly but then stopped again after a few days. I gave up on that too. The most annoying thing is the blue screen. Several times I have powered on both the tv and the receiver ( I wouldn't have to do this if the ARC feature worked properly) and see nothing but a blank blue screen on my tv. To solve this problem I have to power down both the tv and the receiver, disconnect the HDMI cable and then reconnect it. This usually works but a couple times I have to disconnect and reconnect more than once. If you have an Apple computer anywhere close to this thing it automatically connects to it once your computer is awake. If I have the tv on and open up the web browser on the iMac the receiver disconnects from CBL/SAT and connects to the computer via bluetooth automatically. As far as sound and clarity I have no complaints but for the amount of money I spent I would expect something much better.

Although I was very happy with my old Pioneer receiver I am very pleased with the Onkyo . I had to study all the old wiring and redo most of it due to the old receiver not having hdmi , but using hdmi was easy and improved the sound and picture. The instructions displayed on screen to connect everything through the receiver were a bit of a struggle but I made all the right choices the first time. I purchased this unit because it was the only one with a phono input. I have no regrets so far and hope this one lasts as long as the Pioneer, ( 25 years ) .

The reciever was easy to set up and the HDMI inputs worked perfectly. You need to turn the volume up to 50% to start off which was surprising considering the size of the Amp. Overall very satisfied with this purchase.
