Although this particular unit did not work with my set up at home, it worked great in the store, the sound was excellent, I was just unable to get video due to communication compatibility issues. The Customer Service people were just awesome, polite and extremely helpful above and beyond. The home entertainment staff were equally as helpful just a littlie slower to respond. After 4 days of troubleshooting, having my entertainment center completely torn apart they recommended a Denon model and my issue was resolved. Although disappointed, as this Onkyo receiver had good reviews, great sound and a lot of features for the money.

The Onkyo TX 7.2-Ch. Hi-Res Network-Ready 4K Ultra HD and 3D Pass-Through A/V Home Theater is a very good surround sound receiver that is very versatile and sounds great with the right speakers. It can be used for 5.1, 5.2, 7.1, or 7.2 surround sound. I had an Onkyo stereo receiver many years ago and it was a great receiver and that is what drew me to try out this Home Theater receiver. I am very please with the ease of set-up and the way it sounds plus it was a very reasonably priced system. Yes, you can definitely get better quality if you want to pay the price, but for a small or medium budget, this one is great!

Paid 250 on a Black Friday special. It’s good but seems under powered. I’ve always had Sony’s in the past so this was my first experience with Onkyo. This unit needs to be in the 60’s or higher on the volume level to hear well. The Sony’s were fairly loud in the 30s. So maybe it’s just a matter of scale, but I feel the if this were cranked to 100 it would still not be crazy loud. The set up seemed fairly simple with the included mic, but there is a lot going on with the on screen set up. I’m used to being able to control and adjust from the unit alone. You must have a tv hooked up to use all the features as everything is graphical.

In the past I heard great things about onkyo. Had a 20 + year old sony 5.0 system. No hdmi, no sub input. Time for upgrade? This receiver has standard features. Hdmi inputs, phone input, still like my cd collectio . Also, bluetooth connectivity. Everything I used worked as expected. But compared to my 20+ year sony there's no oomph. :( I have to crank it up just to fill my small bedroom. I replaced the old speaker wire and I have to say it helped a little. It didn't make my speakers sing but it did improve it overall. Not worth list price but for what I paid I would buy again. Still needs more oomph.

Not sure what max volume is. Really don’t hear much out of speakers until at 40 on volume. Typical tv 50-60 range. There is plenty of power for tower speakers that are hooked up. Hook up was also easy.

I'll get the minor negative out of the way first. The Component connections are analog, not digital so I'm stuck with 480 and 560i. That is now the industry standard so any new component connection will have that limitation. I replaced a Harmon Kardon 7.2 system. The Onkyo has better sound with my surround setup. It was just as easy to set up and provides plenty of HDMI 2.2 and other connections for me. I am really enjoying it.

I bought this to replace a Pioneer receiver from about 1990. That receiver was way ahead of its time in many ways but of course had no wifi/Bluetooth or HDMI ports. I love these newer features as they make the hook ups so easy and things can be powered wirelessly. The overall acoustics are much better too as even the surround speakers act as regular speakers when listening to music, something the old receiver didn't do.

This receiver offers good sound and a lot of great features and power. BB and many reviews have listed them. I use it in a 5.1 configuration. One reason I bought it was for the 2nd zone output to feed wireless headphones. Nice that you don't even need the receiver turned on to have the Zone 2 output feed the TV audio to the headphones. Another big reason to buy this was the Bluetooth input capability -- but that now hardly ever works with the 4 devices I've tried to use (they work fine with my Bluetooth headphones and Bose speaker). BIG disappointment!!! Some annoyances which might be true with some other brands' receivers too: -- No R-L balance control any more? I don't always sit in the same area of the room for TV or reading or whatever. So now I have to keep digging into the menu and tell the receiver how many feet away from each speaker I am. Sheesh. -- All levels are set according to the speakers' distance from your usual sitting position. My rear/surround Klipschs are 2 ft away but the Onkyo has to be told they're 15 ft. away to get a decent level. -- The 1990's-era display screen makes using a TV screen almost mandatory for even simple things. -- The speaker wire connections on the back are ridiculously close together. -- The USB input is on the back. How useful is that in a typical setup when it's on a tight shelf connected to dozens of wires & cables.? -- The receiver does not remember some settings when it is powered off. The Zone 2 input and the center channel and subwoofer levels have to be reset every time.

I upgraded to this receiver from an older version (the 626) to get support for 4K/Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos. It was a great upgrade: the newer model has a much better microphone-based setup, and it also features individual EQs for the speakers, so if, like me, you have Def-Tech towers with integrated subwoofers, it's nice to be able to tweak things even further than the older model's all-channels bass/treble guides. As ever, Onkyo delivers some of the best sound in the price range.

I was a little intimidated after reading some of the extremely in depth reviews for this receiver. Don't let that scare you. This receiver was so easy to set up. Once its all pugged in it balances itself with the help of the microphone that comes with it. Even if you don't have 7 or 8 speakers, the sound is still amazing. To be honest though, I have an amazing set of speakers the from the 1970's (the height of the audiophile era). I get crystal clear sound from everything I have hooked up to it, TV, CD player, turntable, computer. I'm loving my Onkyo. I have had zero problems with it.

Tons of features and sound options. The setup took several hours of fiddling and testing but was relatively easy. I'm pretty impressed by the sound, but this is my first 4K receiver so I really don't have anything to compare it to besides the ancient Kenwood that it replaced. My only issues so far: A/V sound desync is a constant problem for me when it comes to watching stuff online, and the desync modifier doesn't seem to do much but exacerbate the problem. I'm going to assume that my sluggish internet is to blame for the desyncing; it bothers me that manually adjusting it does nothing to resolve the issue. Also, I'm getting a lot of clicking and popping during playback -- I haven't been able to find a solution yet, but the fact that it started a couple weeks after I purchased this receiver has me concerned that internal parts may already be failing. A great receiver otherwise, but I wouldn't suggest paying full price for it.

I wanted to jump into Atmos surround for an entry level price and this receiver fits the bill nicely. A strong amp section drives my M&K speakers to reference level decibels in my 15x13 room and the Atmos surround adds another dimension. It also has plenty of HDMI inputs and even a phono stage making this a pretty complete center piece to my setup. I don’t use pandora or second zone so I can’t comment on those features. If good surround sound for reasonable dollars is your goal I highly recommended this receiver.

I upgraded from an older Onkyo receiver that I ran fiber optics too. It knew nothing of HDMI. This system was a nice upgrade allowing me to run all of my components through it even while powered off. My only complaint is the on screen menu for reasons beyond me, no longer displays on my TV screen. Thankfully it still displays on the receiver itself. Sound wise it's incredible. Though I cannot say if that is the newer receiver or the switch to HDMI.

I did A LOT of research when choosing a new receiver. Everything kept pointing to the Onkyo. I already owned an Onkyo TX-NR636 and liked it very much, but I had convinced myself I needed something "more". I looked at all the "big" names and they all fell short in one way or another. Either from connectivity to wattage. The Onkyo had it all. I bought the Onkyo and will not look back. I am so glad I went this route. This unit has the connections for virtually any component you could need, it sounds great, and is full of features. Top Notch!
