This is my first sound receiver...i was hesitant between all of the different options available in the market today....however, I went for this receiver rz30 particularly for its sound quality, Dirac Live room correction, and robust feature set, including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and 8K/60Hz support. I realky like and appreciate its ability to handle various speaker configurations and its user-friendly setup process....i would say that the remote control feels old...and the app is meh....and for a novice such as me...it was complicated to set up and comprehend the multiple options...overall i super content with the purchase....

The new Onkyo TX-RZ30 checks all the boxes for a solid AVR. Of particular importance are full set of pre outputs, independent dual subwoofer outputs, and DIRAC room correction software. The price is competitive with other AVR’s in its class. Time will tell if Onkyo has ironed out the issues they’ve had with their AVR’s in the past.

Pro:
Get Dirac full room correction … that’s a 350 value if you buy it yourself.
Cons:
To run Dirac proper you need to buy a calibration mic like the umik-1 100 bucks on amazon. 80 from website.
After the Dirac room correction ran. The sound for movies was off. In particular the background noises was missing a lot of the bass. That was Dirac live. It sounded better when running with Dirac bass management. My best result was to apply 4DB Harman curve to the calibration.
The next con was if the unit was off for a period of time. The unit couldn’t be powered on from the Apple TV remote. Even though the unit was powering on my projector that was hooked to the unit. This caused me to either turn on the unit manually or pull out another remote.
I ended up returning the unit for those two reasons. My friend has the rz-50 which he loves and didn’t have these issues. I ended up going with the denon x3800h. Which sounds great after the room calibration. I got the unit for about the same price as they discounted both these units for Christmas.

I am upgrading from a TX-NR696 that has been an amazing unit but I wanted to have Dirac, dual independent sub outputs and full pre-out's for external amplification. I'm using an Emotiva BasX A3 to power my LCR, the internal amp is driving my surrounds and a 1k watt amp is powering a 15" sub.
I use a MiniDSP UMIK-1 with a laptop to run Dirac room calibration and the results are pretty amazing, a far cry better than the built in room correction in the 696. The sub blends perfectly with the towers, there are no peaks or nulls in the response and everything is time aligned very well. If you're going to spend the money on the receiver, definitely take the time to run Dirac, you will be pleased. With full sized towers and a dual 6.5" center channel the sounds stage is huge, very dynamic and well balanced. Voices are clear, even during loud scenes that fill the room with explosive sound!
If you don't plan on going over 9.2 there really isn't a need for more receiver than this, it is a beast and has all the latest features, 8k support and HDMI 2.1. This is a lot of receiver for the money, you wont find anything in it's price range that gives you all the features this does along with Dirac, to deliver a truly impressive home theater experience!

I’ve had Onkyos going back to the late 90’s, and they just flat out perform!
This receiver, with its features and ease of use, is great.
I especially like the included Dirac. Well, that was the main reason to. Up it, I guess.
I currently have a TX-NR787 and the power rating is equal to this RZ, so power wise it’s a lateral move. It’s all that I need for my listening room. The better features are what convinced me to upgrade.
I briefly had a rz50, and Dirac setup seemed a little buggy, but I guess they’ve fixed the bugs, because this set up nicely and my speakers really sound more alive than my older Onkyo 787.
I also love the fact that I’m getting 2024 technology with improved internals!
Having pre outs is nice and I may play around with adding an amp for the fronts, but as of now, it’s sounds great with the 5.4.2 configuration in my listening area, and the Atmos sounds great with 4k disk movies that I’ve watched.
What a great receiver!!

Bought the TX-RZ30 to replace my trusty 18 year old Onkyo TX-SR805. Great upgrade to properly support my HDMI 2.1 PS5 Pro. Dirac Live inclusion is an excellent addition and worked perfectly with the included mic.
Love the fact that they have a mode specifically for Klipsch Reference speakers, which I have. I am using the system in a 5.1 configuration with bi-wired front speakers and everything is working and sounding great.
I highly recommend using the PC client for Dirac Live as it is much easier to use with a bigger screen than you would get with a cellphone.
I have found this to be a great all around receiver, nice work Onkyo!

I wanted to take a moment to share how impressed I am with the Onkyo TX-RZ30 9.2-Channel AV Receiver. From the moment I set it up, it was clear that this receiver delivers exceptional performance. The sound quality is outstanding—powerful, clean, and richly detailed across the entire spectrum. Movies feel truly immersive with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and the THX certification gives me confidence that I’m getting theater-grade performance at home. One of the biggest highlights for me has been the built-in Dirac Live room correction. After calibration, the audio in my room sounded dramatically more balanced and precise, elevating both music and home theater experiences. The RZ30’s video and gaming features are equally impressive; with HDMI 2.1 support and compatibility with 8K, 4K/120Hz, and all the latest gaming technologies, it handles everything I throw at it without a hitch. I also appreciate the wide range of streaming options and easy connectivity, from Bluetooth and AirPlay 2 to Chromecast and multi-room support. The build quality feels premium, and the interface, while feature-rich, is easy enough to navigate after a bit of exploration. Overall, this receiver has exceeded my expectations in virtually every way. I couldn’t be happier with the performance and value it offers.

If you can handle a mini-DSP UMIK and have a computer to take the measurements and fit Dirac filters for your room, you will have made > $5k of high-end receiver alternatives obsolete. Make sure you have adequate amplification. I'm using an external amp that I already had for my mains+center (3 channels), so the Onkyo amp only handles surround channels. I've been using room correction for more than 10 years in multiple different spaces; fixing your room will make the sound of this receiver practically indistinguishable from models 5 times or more expensive.

This is my first receiver purchase since the mid 90's and back then I bought an Onkyo so I was happy to see that they are still around and making good reasonably priced electronics. I am still trying to figure out Dirac Live but I love the eARC option for connecting to my TV. Lip movement is almost perfectly synced with sound. All components plug into the AVR and from there everything can be controlled by the component remote or the AVR Remote. The only issue I am having is when I turn the system on, it wants to default to Roku or the blu ray player rather than my Tivo which I use most of the time. I am very happy with the purchase.

Upgraded from Onkyo tx-nr646, mainly for the extra channels of this receiver for while house audio It works great however the sound quality improvement it was really surprised me. With the same speakers the difference is incredible. Would definitely but again. It was advertised that it works with Alexa, IT DOES NOT, I verified this with Onkyo directly. So if that is important for you, didn't but RZ-30. This is the only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars.

Very happy overall. Previously had the RZ 50 and the HDMI panel died. Hoping this doesn’t happen to the RZ 30. Sound quality is on point. Good value at this price. Picked up on sale.

Upgraded from an old TX-NR656. Opened up a whole new world for us! Set up as 5.1.4 for Atmos/DTS x. Sounded so much better than our old receiver. Then I ran the included Dirac live to configure it for the room. It was like getting another upgrade on top of the new receiver. I highly recommend if you are looking to step up from an entry level receiver.

This was an upgrade from my previous Pioneer Elite AVR and its an upgrade in every way. This is perfect for Atmos movies but haven't had time to take advantage of the IMAX features as of yet. I highly recommend this if you're on the fence of getting a new higher end AVR.
