can't get it activated
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had "On Star" for a year and a couple of months and the mirror went bad. Just past the warrenty. Bought new mirror, spent a half hour activating it (or I thought so). 2 months later brought it in because I needed to get the cell phone paired with the blue tooth and found out it wasn't activated. That was last Friday, here it is Sunday and it still isn't. Very frustrated with "On Star".

Caution:Beware of "Custom Labor" charges
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased OnStar FMV from Best Buy, Millerville Rd., Baton Rouge. I expected the PP of $375 + tax. My total came to $543, which included a “custom labor” charge of $120!! I asked if installation was not included in the price, and was told by Eric, the installer, that “basic” was included, but “nothing is ever basic installation these days”. So I paid and scheduled an appt. to install. I checked the BB site where it said I c/ contact my local BB for exact pricing. I contacted another BB location in town and spoke w/ Zach, who told me that for my make/model basic installation was all that was required and that the fee schedule was set by OnStar. I checked with OnStar and was told by their reps in 3 divisions that I should not have been charged “custom labor” charge. They wanted to know store, city and state where my purchase was made. I returned the mirror to the Millerville BB for a full refund and drove 10 miles further to the Bluebonnet location. I purchased the mirror and had Zach install it. He was very knowledgeable of the product & explained the levels of service. He was very professional, courteous and articulate. I highly recommend that you question any additional labor charges. If you have any questions, call OnStar before you pay. The only thing I did have to buy was a $15 “small foot install kit”, which was a bracket for the mirror and epoxy.

Round of Applause for On Star!!

When I saw this On Star FMV, I thought it was an good idea to offer this product for other vehicles but of course I was skeptical about the service and how different it would be from what comes in the actual GMC, Cadillac vehicles. There are some differences such as On Star not being able to unlock your doors automatically but they do include roadside assistance. I was EXTREMELY Pleased with how this works. You talk to the same On Star advisors and the Customer Service is second to none. This is such an awesome upgrade for any vehicle. I caught it on sale today for $274.99 which includes install. It took the installers about 3 hours to hook it up but they did a great job. I read other reviews about them charging extra to install into some vehicles so I recommend you speaking with the installers prior to purchasing. I also recommend the $28 monthly service because it has turn by turn functions but just pay it for the year and save $50. This clearly beats having a garmin or any other gps type device and to have a live person greet you by your name is so cool and very professional. Best purchase i've made this year and well worth it.

Great for hands free calling and Emergencies
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.After it was in stalled about a week later we took a trip, I noticed the orange triangle blinking and the red light on so I called onstar they checked it and said the wireing for the backup batteries was hooked up wrong, so I went back to the installer they checked it out and contacted onstar finding out the unit(mirror) was defective now I am waiting for a new replacement to be installed. The device works great as long as my truck is running. I trust onstar, I am sure the problem will be taken care of, I also have onstar in our chevy equinox, it works great. Bestbuy was great to work with in every way.

The Onstar FMV is better than GPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.While the monthly charge for the OnStar service is certainly a consideration in the purchase decision for this new device, for our purposes it is worth it. Not only does it provide the peace-of-mind in knowing that the car and its occupants are better protected in case of an accident or an emergency, but you also have the easy-to-use operator navigation function. No fooling around with a GPS screen is needed when looking for directions. Simply pushing the OnStar button - easy to do even when driving - will connect you with an operator who will listen to your voice request for a destination and then download voice turn-by-turn instructions to your desired location. You don't need to try to determine exactly where you are as a starting point. That is done automatically. In addition, if you are looking for a product or service while driving, you can just ask the OnStar operator and be given options for the nearest locations that meet your needs. A great tool and we're glad that we purchased it.

Read before buying

I read the reviews on here before buying it and realized that one problem that people had was the installation process. I called my local best buy and asked to be transferred to the auto installation department. I asked the gentleman if my 2006 honda civic was compatible and if they could install it that day. He informed me to bring my vehicle in before 1-3pm, so i saved from making two separate trips. It took them about 2 hours to install. One problem i didn't like was that it cost an extra 30 or 40 bucks after the mounting piece, installation fee, and taxes. So I'm happy i wasn't the guy that went there, with exact change. Overall its an amazing product and im so happy to have it in my car.

very good service - once it was working correctly

Was out of town so went to Best Buy in Clearwater, FL where a new (2nd mirror) one was installed replacing the original (upon request by OnStar diagnosing the problem) - but that 2nd mirror turned out to be a 'used mirror that was resold to me by Best Buy and was already registered to someone else and never could get it to re-rigister to me, so OnStar had me go back to Best Buy again and explain the problem upon which Best Buy took the 2nd mirror out that they had installed that same morning and replaced it with another new one (this time I guess was an acutal new one) which after several more hours of waiting and going through all the OnStar communication, finally registered (Best Buy would not re-register it for me but said I had to do it) - overall probaby over 6 hours 'online' with OnStar in the car doing all of this - all worked just fine until about a week ago when the hands free calling failed again - called OnStar and they 'downloaded' a 'fix' and now the hands free calling is working correctly again.

Worth the services offered

The FMV made it possible to have it in our Ford F350. The installation by the Geek Squad was one hour from drive in to drive out with everything fully functional. The price was fair, but the installation cost and then the services start to add up. The system is added insurance in case you're in an accident or need emergency services. The turn-by-turn navigation is current and doesn't require the DVD update every two years or so. If you purchase long term service, it's cheaper than monthly/yearly rates. Again, cheaper than purchasing the nav DVD update every year or two for vehicles equipped with nav systems. Our F350 XLT didn't come with Bluetooth, so this was an extra benefit from OnStar FMV. Service costs cannot be combined with OnStar services on your other vehicles. Consider all costs before purchasing.

Worth the cost

It has so many features that I utilize each day including turn-by-turn routes and hands-free calling. I also feel safe knowing that if anything were to happen and I didn't have my phone on me or was too injured to call out, that an OnStar advisor would be on the line with me within seconds. Highly recommend!

very good quality,easy installation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Was hesitant at first,I just knew this would be a mess to install.Thought they would have to remove the windshield or something crazy......not at all.No surprise install fee,no delays,no problems at all.Install and setup was smooth as could be,took Best Buy about an hour to install it,and on the same day I bought it!! Quality of mirror is great,called onstar to setup the account,took 15 minutes,advisors are polite and great. Paired the system to my cell phone with no problems........wish everything was this easy.

Onstar-don't leave home without it!

I have owned GM products exclusively since the introduction of Onstar. I have always bought the full package, not just the emergency service. Plus now for $10 I also get unlimited cell time which is another great benefit. We will never again own a car that does not have Onstar installed. An outstanding product with great service to back it up.

Great Tech Package -All in the Mirror

The Geek squad installation was reasonably quick. The volume and adjustments are handy. The voice and turn by instructions are clear and easy to follow.

Love It!!

All the features are great and I feel so much safer driving at night knowing help is only a blue button away. The Onstar reps are so nice, friendly and helpful. I think the system is well worth the price. I have tested all the features (except crash response ;) and it is GREAT!
