Ooma comes through!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Moved to an apartment that didn't get great cell phone reception. I refused to pay $20-40/month for landline service so we ended up dealing with the poor reception or using Skype on the computer(works great) or iPhone(which doesn't work great). After researching Skype phone adapters and not wanting to have to rely on a computer I found OOMA on sale at Best Buy. The description made it seem too good to be true, but when all was said and done we ended up with the perfect solution! The device itself is nice and very easy to setup. You get your own phone number just like Skype Out Service, but without the yearly fees or necessary computer connection. (BEWARE:You can transfer your existing landline phone number to this service but it costs an additional 1 time $40.) As long as this company remains in business and you always have internet, you will never need to pay for a landline phone again. I reecommend this device so the company stays in business and us users can keep this free service as long as possible!

Very happy I went with this
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very happy I chose to go with Ooma. I have FIOS with Verizon and checked out the service quality in advance to make sure it would support voice over internet, which it did with no problem. Setup was very simple; just plugged Ooma in to cable modem and was making calls 5 minutes later. After a week of testing dropped land line and all jacks in house now running off Ooma. Bills for phone+internet now down from $86/mo to $50/mo. Figure will recoup costs in 7-8 months. Major issue above competitors is that call quality is same or better as landline (exception: if volume up loud on handset, you get an "echo". Turning volume down ends this) and computer does not need to be on to run it. Only caveats are: not completely set-and-forget, needed minor tweaking to not slow down internet connection (all answered on Ooma's website). There are small tax fees which you still pay (about $3.50/mo). Be aware that there is a $40 fee if you want to port your old phone # over (don't need to decide this right away). Strange dial tone which still takes getting used to. These are all minor and very happy overall with the transition. No one can tell it is a voice-over-internet connection instead of a land line.

No more phone bills!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, our Ooma is working great and sound quality is good. However, our number port is not complete yet, so I don't know if that will have any effect on performance. I would have had trouble hooking it up, but thankfully, more technically gifted people in my family took care of that for me. Shop around, there are deals out there, you don't have to pay retail price.

The best VOIP around
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just wonder why I didn't get this sooner, the Ooma Telo is a top of the line product, it allows you to have free phone service and make free calls in the US even if you take the device overseas, you just pay a small tax monthly fee (Required by the government not Ooma) Of course if you want all the bells and whistles then you need to get their Premium service that is $9.99 a month, still A LOT LOT less money than what you would be paying to your local phone company for A LOT less features, Ooma works with any corded or cordless phone; easy installation and no computer is required, With Ooma Premier, you'll have access to several first-class voicemail options. You'll be able to enjoy the ultimate convenience of having your voicemails forwarded to your e-mail address, allowing you to check your phone messages while at work. Also when you sign up you have the option to pick a secondary phone number, you are free to chose what area code you want for your phone, let's say you have friends or family in another stay who can't afford long distance, then you pick a number from their area and presto they can call you at that local number for them. Ooma also has Google Voice integration, meaning you may send and receive calls using your Google Voice number and Caller ID, even retrieve your Google Voice Mail from the Telo main unit or the Telo handset, the integration works like a charm. Ooma has all the features you could ever dream of having from your phone service and then some, the Telo device has a sleek design loaded features, I simply love it all.

Works great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a bit skeptical but it went pretty well. The ethernet cable they sent was bad but when I put my own in (with customer service assistance) the set up was good. My number was ported over in less than a month. The sound quality is good and we haven't had any problems. I really like not paying a monthly phone bill.

Great product!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like everyone, I was skeptical that it would actually work well. I remember the old days of net2phone and early and inferior voip service. That was then and this is now!! Very impressed with OOMA. Super simple setup. The "Premier" service can easily be opted out of. The basic service is sweet and gives things like caller id and call waiting. Features you'll spend extra on with any home phone provider. The quality is at least "as good" as a landline, if not better. All depends on the speed of your internet. Recommend you have at least 1MB download and 384MB upload highspeed (I use Comcast). Don't be fooled into paying for VOIP service through COMCAST, VERIZON or VONAGE. If you already have a high speed line; why would you pay them extra to use it for phone service?! They're doing the same thing with their VOIP service, but charging you a ton for it? Makes no sense. Buy the OOMA; set it up and get the benefits of the bandwidth you're already paying for! BESTBUY has them on sale for $199, so wait and don't spend the full $249. Ps. Don't bother getting a "previously activated" unit on Ebay. OOMA "WILL" charge you $60 to reactivate the unit. Do the math and get yourself a brand new unit for $199. There's no activation fees whatsoever and all you pay is the mandatory "federal regulatory" fees of about $12, at the beginning of your 2nd year of service. This thing will pay for itself in about 5 months, if your monthly home phone bill is $35-45. Think about it.

Works great, too expensive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have no tech savvy, but just plugged it in and it works great. I have cable company internet, a slower service may not work as well. Faxes work great, also. Only complaint is cost. Purchase price is too high, and the basic free service does not include caller-id and some other things. If you want that it's $9.99/month.

Good Quality Calls, A bit tought to set up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good product that can save a lot of people bundles of costs on phone calls. I plan to continue to use it, and bought the Ooma Telo plus 3 Telo Handsets. It can be a bit dicey to set up if you have anything beyond a super simple home network for Internet, and Ooma tech support is all Asian and usually only well trained in basic operation. I could not get clear answers - more than once. However the online user form is very good and the call quality is better than Vonage, which we had for several years. Do not that if you get a second phone number with the Ooma service and also assign it to a Telo handset, you will only be able to use that number with that handset. But I would recommend it for many people.

Very nice so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product so far has been great; was very easy to set up (literally, plug it into AC and plug it into ethernet (with DHCP), and you're good to go. Go online (DO THIS FIRST) and complete the setup online including picking your phone number. My only gripe so far is there were no numbers available in Austin, TX (512 area code). Then logoff and the unit will update which takes about 15. We have the unit plugged into an AT&T U-verse box, and the U-Verse detected it as another router and automatically asked if it should be placed in a DMZ zone (I said yes). We have an AT&T cordless phone plugged in, with 3 handsets. Works great. Very good call quality, love the dialtone. And the physical unit is VERY attractive and well-designed.

It just works
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was becoming frustrated by all of the charges that the phone company was charging for a phone which we seldom use. Understanding the charges was a pain and they kept changing things. MCI became Verizon and Verizon tried to charge us for the change. We decided to try Ooma and it has been fine. It will pay itself off in about a year. Packaging of the unit was first class and the instructions both printed and online were clear Porting of my phone number went just as they described it. You will need to fax them the agreement that you download to get porting started. We now have caller ID and voicemail for no additional fees as in free on an already free service. I hope they can afford to stay in business and stay free.

Great Land Line at a Fraction of the Cost
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a fantastic product. I had no land line as I used my cell phone at home etc. But always worrryng about having the cell phone next to my brain and potentially getting a brain tumor, I broke down and purchased this box. Now I talk on this at all times when I am at home and feel great doing so, It was easy to install and I got a new number no problem - even in Los Angeles. They rate they estimated for taxes was right on the money as my first bill was only $3.27. It has been very dependable and can even have a fax machine hanging off of teh basic service. It includes a voice mail box and two line capability without the premium service. My girlfriend went to Vietnam for a month and I paid $10 to talk to her while she was away. The sound quality is good and I have had very few miscalls or voice quality issues. Dump your land lands now and use this - you will never regret it. Customer service is good as well.

Works great, easy to install, good quality calls,
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I started my OOMA service on March 4th. The installation directions were easy to follow and the phone system was working within 15 minutes of me opening the box. It’s a sleek looking box, comes with all the cords I needed, and I essentially just had to switch some plugs and cables from the internet and plug it in. It took a few minutes to boot up, exactly like the instructions said. The phone call to register went perfect. After using it a week, I liked it, and know I was going to keep the system, so I ported my number over. They emailed me a date the change was going to take affect that was about 3 weeks out. They emailed me during that period, giving me updates on the process. It was switched the day they had originally said, and it works great. The clarity is excellent, I love the voice mail features. I just wish they gave you an option to plug a regular phone into the box for the second line, instead of making you buy their wireless phone. I had a few questions about billing, and features. I had read criticisms from other reviews in the past. My experience was totally different. Someone answered the phone within one minute; they spoke clear English, and were easy to understand. I would bet they are now taking calls in the US rather than overseas. The person on the phone knew the answer to the questions, and was very helpful. I would defiantly recommend OOMA to anyone wanting to save money on paying an ongoing monthly fee for a landline.

Great product for saving money!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Watch out Vonage... here comes Ooma. Dumb name, but a great product. I was up and running in less than 15 mintues. Now everyone in my house has their own phone number. My calls even ring on both my home phone and my cell phone at the same time. My voicemails are emailed to me with the voice message attached. What a great idea! I had Vonage and was paying four times as much money. Ooma was recommended to me by many of my coworkers, but I just kept putting in off. Man am I sorry now! The call quality is unreal. No one knows that I am on a Voip system. I cannot say enough good things about Ooma. I have the HD phones (purchased separately), and they are amazing as well. You cannot go wrong with this system. My entire phone bill is less than 15 dollars a month (I upgraded my service to the premium line of service, which is optional.)

Very good VoiP product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this to replace Vonage and I was reluctant. I was very surprised that it worked just as well as the competitors and much better than Skype. Installation was easy (I even put it behind the router, not as they recommend) and it works just fine. I use Google Voice so I do not use the voice mail feature but having the answering machine feel is nice too. So far it has been working flawlessly, I transferred my phone number to the device and never looked back. One thing, international calls are not as good as Vonage, but I use skype mostly for that. This even works better than the local internet provider's VoiP solution.

works great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installed system, purchased Premium, ported local number, ported other state residence number, disconnected land line supplier wires at outside box, bought Panasonic wireless phone set, and plugged in kitchen wall phone to wall jack. Now I have removed land lines from both houses, I can answer phone calls for here (AZ) and for another state (WA), have phones in the house where I want them, and can have my cell phone ring when I'm away from the house. I had to call Ooma support several times to keep adding the features I wanted ----- but eventually got what I wanted. Sometimes had to call back and talk to another rep if I felt I needed more help than I was getting

Verizon ported home number to Ooma in 4 days
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Some Best Buy reviews indicated that porting your old number would take a month or more to port your old number to Ooma. My experience was much faster. I registered my Ooma on Saturday night, and my old Verizon number was ported Wednesday, so let's call that four days or three business days. I live in the mid-Atlantic, near Annapolis. So far, Ooma seems to work fine with our three old Panasonic portable phones.

This device is best Voice over Internet protocol!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had second thoughts about this product until I seen that it was tested and was highly rated by ConsumerReports.org and sure enough it lived up to what Ooma says it will do! The monthly price is a money saver too. Excellent sound quality.

Excellent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Financial guy, Clark Howard (MSN) uses it and likes it. Dumped AT&T phone service and never looked back. Saves tons. Fax works, Alarm works, Port done. Not paying for its premium service, just device and no negatives yet. No monthly phone bills, just taxes ($3.47 per month). What a difference. We use Magic Jack as back up.

Best Purchase in the last 10 years
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have dropped from $60 a month ($720 a year) to $100 per year, with the added package. I can control who calls, blacklisting telemarketers, when necessary. As a result, we have much more quite days and evenings. I highly recommend Ooma Telo to replace your hard wired phone.
