Phenomenal - exceeded expectations

Absolutely phenomenal picture quality and brightness! Far exceeded my expectations. I'm rear projecting on a 21-foot inflatable screen on my pool deck. Even with bright flood lights on, the picture remains very clear and able to cut through the ambient light. Great short throw and fills screen perfectly. If I had to complain about anything, it's a little challenging to keystone the image just right. Even the slightest adjustment physically has a huge effect. Also, shipping took almost 4 weeks! I did a ton of research before choosing this. You won't be disappointed with this projector.

Bright Projector!

This is an exceptionally bright Projector due to it laser light source. It also turns on from a cold start much faster than traditional lamp models. Setup can take some time given the short throw design, as very small placement adjustments make for large changes in the image. You need to get the projector in the EXACT right spot exactly perpendicular to the screen for optimal results. Also, a permanent screen will result in a better picture than a portable screen like mine, as small imperfections with respect to flatness will show up as distortions like waviness. Overall, I'm really happy with the purchase.

I got this after some hiccups of owning the step down model: the GT1080HDR. So my review would heavily mention the differences of the two.
So far, I can say that this is definitely an upgrade! Contrast is better and pictures pop out more! This thing is definitely bright and does not require every light source turned off to reach its picture quality potentials! I have this on my living room adjacent to the kitchen, and even when the kitchen is at its brightest, this projector is still making vivid pictures on my 110" projector screen! The short throw is another feature I love. It only takes about close to 4 ft to make a beautiful 110" image. The projector also has auto keystoning, which is not perfect but almost nearly there that you don't have too much left.
This thing also supports 3D! all you need is DLP active 3D glasses! I got 4 pairs of glasses from amazon for about 30 bucks. I still have a collection of 3D blu-rays and I enjoy reliving them on a biga$$ screen!
This thing has speakers, but don't rely on them. Kinda defeats having a big screen but listening to small mediocre sound. the speakers are not bad but they aren't immersive either. they sound rattley and tinny. The projector has no ARC support or optical out, so if you like a surround sound experience, better find a work-around. I managed to have all my video connections to my receiver, then connected to this projector.
overall Im very happy with this purchase as its a huge step up experience to my entertainment center! Im glad i got this than the usual TV upgrade. Now I have a personal movie theatre! that's awesome!

Superb performer

Excellent performance with very bright output (4200 lumens)—and very lightweight so it’s good for traveling. Just 2 concerns: since this has a short-throw lens, it does not have a lens cap. Keep the lens protector that comes in the shipping box—that’s all you have to protect the lens with. Also, short-throw lenses do not perform well on portable screens that are not absolutely flat. I had to return 2 portable screens because their surface was wavy. Ironically I found that a cheap screen on eBay did the best job!

Fantastic bang for the buck short throw projector

For comparison, we’re running this projector about 11 feet back from a 13ft diagonal screen in a medium sized church sanctuary with a terrible combination of hanging halogen and stage lights.
Can’t really beat the short throw and high quality of this projector for the money here. Strong performance in medium to high ambient light and good adjustment control.
Only real negatives are lack of remote focus and physical zoom, but most the time those are set it and forget it anyhow.

Only have had it for a few days... I upgraded from a 6 year old BenQ 1085st. This projector is very flexible where ever you mount it allowOmg you to adjust the picture to fit the screen, with ease. I was able to mount it about 18 inches from where my old projector was mounted. Picture is crisp and very bright and fan noise is almost non existent.

This is our first projector; we purchased it for outdoor movie theater use, after extensive online research.
We definitely wanted a short-throw projector, and the GT1090 produces a fantastic throw-ratio for our 120" screen.
While one can argue that laser projectors might not be ideal for movie rendition, (and yes, we have had one occasion where we could see small rectangular subdivisions within our movie-picture), we are absolutely delighted by the crisp, bright picture.
Outdoor viewing during the setting of the bright Florida sun has been just as clear and easy as indoor viewing during a bright day in a room with ample windows and small blinds.
Even with high outside temperatures in Florida, we ave not had any issues with the unit overheating.
This is a complex machine with lots of options and customizable settings. So, here comes a small gripe: for such a machine, reading a manual comes in handy and should be included with the package - but it is not. We support efforts to be better to our environment. Or is the manufacturer trying to save on weight/shipping cost? In any case, now we had to go on a rather extensive, not very intuitive treasure hunt on the Optoma website, until we finally discovered the correct manual. We downloaded and printed the beast, and are now more competent in navigating its menus, many of which are overall fairly clear and intuitive.
On a few occasions, we have had connectivity issues, where the projector would repeatedly rapidly skip past the HDMI input source we had connected. Usually, after turning all devices off and back on, and trying again, the connection would eventually work.
The remote lights up when a button is pressed - very helpful as the evening progresses.
At this price point, a lens cap should be included with the machine - alas, it is not.
We appreciate the many options for connecting a variety of devices (in and out).
The built-in speaker is better than some other projector speakers, but it remains just that - a built-in projector speaker. We usually connect a signal-splitter and our Bluetooth earbuds - that way we enjoy great sound, and the neighbors do not get bothered.
Again, we have not owned any other projectors; but compared to those in my workplace (school), I am very pleased with the Optoma GT1090.

Amazing projector. All my friends wished that they had this one vice what they have. Only thing that is difficult is that it comes with no operators manual so you have to download it from the manufacturer site and a little difficult to figure out but once you figure it out you will be very pleased with your purchase. I use it for movies, sports, video games and golf simulator. Might be overkill if you need something for presentations but will work for that as well.

This Optoma 4k projector is very awesome. The picture quality is very good. Streaming movies and 4k ultra high Def movies are breath taking. Comparing this projector to my Sony vpl-vw60 and a Panasonic pt-ae2000, this Optoma is brighter hands down. No need for a totally blacked out room. Very good projector for the price. Oh and easy to set up the picture to the screen.

It's awesome! We bought this for my parents to use and it's been great! We have no negative thing to say about the item, the only thing we recommend is getting a speaker to go with the projector!
