Orby TV is great! I've been looking for a way to break away from the expense of Comcast and I didn't want to sign up for a contract with another company. Setting up the Orby service was so easy and the installation was very quick and professional. I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend extra for the DVR but its been very nice to have and I know I will get a lot of use out of it. I would recommend Orby to anyone who is looking for a flexible, affordable alternative for great TV service!

I cut the cord last year but was having trouble with antenna reception. (drove me nuts) Was going to get an outdoor antenna installed but found this. Orbytv is brand new. Got the DVR box at a store then paid $200 for a professional install. It's actually $150 but I paid the installer extra $50 to run another line to my back room for when I buy another box. Turns out it is a lot more if you pay for them to come back! The installer brought Orby Sat dish and a tv antenna that attaches to the dish. I was going to pay about that much just for getting an outdoor antenna installed so the dish was a bonus. He said mine was the first one he had done. Took little less than 2 hours and put on roof above back porch. I got the Essential package which is $40. My bill is $44 though because the DVR fee is $4. Picture quality is great so far. Plus I get 22 more local channels than I was before because of the outdoor antenna. It really is $44 though because the taxes are included which is GREAT. Not so good things: Doesn't have ESPN but I haven't had that in a while anyway and this doesn't have a contract. (But does have TBS and TNT and football games on local) Also when I hit pause I can't see the score at the bottom of the screen. Just program info banner. Maybe they will fix that or make transparent. Kind of aggravating. So I paid total of $400 for DVR and install (200+200). Last time I subscribed I paid $165 a month though and now $44. So 121 bucks cheaper PER MONTH. If you just want one room the install is $150 and a plain receiver is 100 so could be cheaper to start if you want. Another bonus: my kids watch a lot of shows on internet (hulu and netflix). Orby doesn't connect to internet I can watch tv without interference. Love the screen guide. Really fast. Also call center folks said I could just not pay this summer when we leave for a few weeks and no fee and locals still there. Overall there are a few tiny things here and there that could be better but nothing that keeps it from being 5 stars and way better than cable. Love it!

Very good alternative to cable. Also if Streaming isn't for you. Like ALL Satellite services, subject to outages during moderate to heavy rain, usually no longer than 3-5 minutes...but that is very frustrating when watching a program. Also, beware, not All channels are HD....another way of cutting costs. Guide is very limited compared to other SATELLITE or cable. Good on a budget for places that have no cable or cant/won't pay excessive monthly bills. This service is only $40 a month is you buy and install your self. You would have to buy the dish/install kit ($75), then either a standard receiver ($99.99....but sometimes on sale, I paid $59).....or the DVR Receiver at $199. ( Be aware FVR service is an additional fee each month, I believe $4 or $6 dollars. Then, if you aren't capable of self install (probably 80 to 90 percent of people as it takes advanced knowledge, skills, and tools) then an additional $150 for professional installation. But then thought are DONE. $40 bucks a month from there and you CAN cancel and/or restart ANYTIME with NO fees or charges. Pros: Price with NO commitment. Ease of use/Tuning channels Cons: Lack of HD on many Channels, channel selection News is LEFT biased CNN and BBC or more center right Newsmax....No FOX NEWS. Check their website for channel selection. Typical Satellite outages. Guide is rudimentary.

    Poor video quality

    Posted .

Easy to buy and setup, but the HD picture quality is not as described. There are no HD channels, the ones listed that are HD are just below SD. And the SD (non-HD) are horrible. The picture goes from fuzzy to a large blob of pixels. I have a strong signal and the pictures are bad on all obry channels. The box crashes at least once a day, both of my boxes crashed and locked up several times. This is for someone who is hard up for TV in an area without service and who does not care about picture quality. Once you pay for the service, there is no refund even if you were unable to use the service. The little amount of snow yesterday should not have killed the signal...I haven't seen any dish service do that in around 10-15 years....coming from 10- years of the old Directv and 1 year on Dish.

The company is having software issues on the receivers. The DVR locks up and you have to reboot it almost daily. The controls stop working and reboot again. Talking to other users the has been going on for a wile. Orby has been working on a fix. Great price if you don't mind a few problems.

Easy to install the dish and way cheaper than DirecTV, this is just what I needed and I'm definitely not going back to paying more. Plus I get way more premium channels and pay $80 less per month.

My contract finally ended (yay!) with a satellite provider and I was looking for something that would save me money and not rely on an internet connection. Saw an ad for this on TV and thought this was just what I needed. Bought the DVR in the store and then ordered the install on orbytv.com. I spent about $350 total but am saving $70 a month! The DVR fee is only $4 a month and I really like the fact that there is no contract. Free local channels even if I don't pay for a package also amazing.

Started out good, but then when it rains no satellite. Then there was days that the receiver wouldn't receive satellite for several days in a roll and it was sunny no rain. The DVR also seemed to have a problem with recording even though it should be able to record one live TV and one Satellite channel at the same time and allow you to watch a third channel either free tv or satellite. ( advertised able to have 2 channels for live TV and two channels for Satellite.) well it wouldn't allow you to watch a third channel. It won't allow you to select record only new programs. When you set up Record Series, better watch that it quits after one or two of the series and you have to again re apply the record series. Don't ask about the 30 Day risk free, they won't refund the installation charge.

Bought for the DVR. Orby uses over the air for local tv channels. With a very good antenna we have 67 channels. about 45 miles from transmitters. Orby doesn't have the sports channels so if that's what your interested in look elsewhere. of the 67 channels about 14 are public broadcasting. DVR does just as i wanted; record one program while watching another, easy to use. Guide is poor.

Great cable box . The remote should have been designed better, the pause , back, forward, record buttons should have been at the Top of the remote. would have been nice also if it could light up. I have to cut on my night stand lamp in order to change the channel. Comcast remote lights up. Other wise I love Orby. Would have gave 5 Stars if remote could light up.

Orby is a TV satellite service that is a no frills operator. Prices are reminiscent of the early days of satellite broadcasting. Affordable in other words. Options for movie channels are available, but I prefer to just use the basic service with the DVR. Orby does not charge for extra DVR service which is a plus. Their DVR boxes are small and easy to use and have been reliable. I have two. Soon to have three. Local channels are available at no charge. The DVR storage is fairly large and have not reached the limit yet. The remote control seems to work with most TVs. Installation was easy with an HDMI output available. Replay appears as good as the original broadcast whether in HD or conventional TV. I have tried streaming TV bit I am much happier with the Orby system.

Unreliable does not work well. Fast forward pauses on a frame then skips forward doing the same again, it’s quicker to watch commercials. No provision for series recoding. when watching a recording a lost signal banner comes on and you have to exit and restart recording only to have the banner to pop up again.

Orby TV is a great value for us. It has all the channels we watch without all the extra charges for channels we don't watch. The reason for 4 stars is when you set an appointment time within a four hour window it could change without notice as it did for me. The receiver itself works great!

This is a great alternative to the high priced monthly bills from other satellite providers. You will get charged an extra $4/mth if you purchased dvr box. There are no sports and racing channels. They are still working out small glitches since this is new but I am satisfied with $44/mth. The guys that came to put the satellite up were too chicken to go under my house to run the wire so I had to. Haha. Satisfied so far. Wasn’t happy about paying $199 for dvr box then now paying $4/mth to use it. Still cheaper then the others.

I really would like to give this product a better review. I do like OrbyTV as a solution to high price competitors but there is a few tweaks that need to be made. I often find the DVR freezes up and I have to unplug it and restart it. I do miss the ease of DirecTV's DRVs as I could stop the play of a show and watch a recording for a bit then go back and start the previous show from where I left off. This isn't available with this recorder. This DVR shows "record series" or "record all" function but it just records all so there is constant having to sort through recordings that I already watched and new episodes of shows I have set to record. No matter what I have tried all is recorded. One other thing I would like for OrbyTV to do is provide clients with at least one mailed flyer explaining how to contact them and use their service if nothing more than a curtesy hello send a post card. My daughter just got the regular box with no recording options and she is quite happy with her service as she too lives in a remote area.

I saw a commercial on TV and thought the Orby TV looked good. My cable bill was $125+. OrbyTV has Food Network, TLC, Discovery and Lifetime which are all my favorites. The local channels come through an antenna. I get more local channels than I got with my other antenna. Now $40 a month and I get a nice clear picture. I only pay $4 for DVR service too and was paying $12 with my cable. I paid $350 up front for the DVR and installation. Pays for itself in a few months so worth it.
