I always protect my Samsung phone with a OTTERBOX cover and never had a problem. You can't always be as careful as you like and thats why I purchase an Otterbox its cheaper than buying Insurance.

The phone is just so big that a double insulated case really adds to the bulk and weight. Otterbox makes a great case so don't punish them for answering the bell by making a Commuter for this phone. Blame Samsung for making the phone so thick, wide, long and slippery that you need to buy a case for it. The case also makes the buttons a little difficult to operate.
