It fits snug on your iPad Air 2 and you can just tell that it's well protected in the case. The big drawback, of course, is the added bulk and weight to the ultra slim and lightweight iPad Air 2. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anyway around this. I would gladly add bulk and weight to my device rather than risking damage. I chose to keep the built in screen protector attached but it's easy to remove if that's what you choose (although I, personally, think it would be very foolish of you to remove it).
