A must if you have kids

The Otterbox Defender case for the iPad Air 2 is a must, especially if you have children. I am totally satisfied with the durability, quality and protection it provides. The directions were very easy and easy to install. Also very happy it comes with a stand as well. The color in the picture doesn't quite match the actual product I would say. The purple is more dulled while the pink is much more vibrant, just an observation. You will not be disappointed in this case!

The outter box fit the iPad great but the stand is hard to remove and it does not set in the stand like the older models. It does not lock in when at the 45 degrees angle

I am not thrilled with this cover, but it was still better than what was in stock at the time. If I am careful with opening it, hopefully the corners will not break as they did on my wife's.

I wasn't planning on getting a Defender for my new iPad Air 2 because I wanted a folio style , until I saw how delightfully and scarily thin it is. Plus, after seeing what happened to the iPhones and iPads of my friends who had those fashionably thin cases, I changed my mind. I've had an Otterbox on my iPhone for 2 years and it's been worth every penny. It's been dropped, thrown out of my bag in the car, sat on, survived my grandchildren, and it still looks new…both the case and the phone. Doesn't mean there isn't some compromise, as others have noted. However, it's not as 'bulky' as many state. Yes, it does hide the iPad's thin profile and it does add some bulk and some weight. But, not a lot. In fact, it makes it easier to handle the iPad in the long run with a better gripping surface. You know when the iPad gets tossed into a messenger bag that it won't bend or get pressed. And, if you're like me and take it everywhere, it's essential peace of mind. As others have mentioned, it's not that easy to put on. The first step, removing the rubberized cover, is just not as easy as it sounds. In fact, I was frustrated enough to almost return it and I'm not a newbie when it comes to putting on cases. I had to watch the video on the Otterbox site to figure it out. However, after that, it wasn't that difficult and was quite easy and does remind you why the Defender is the most protective iPad case. Why only 4 stars? The cover shield and stand. As a cover shield, it's great.. Just snaps on and off and you know it will readily protect the screen. As a stand, it leaves a lot to be desired. Really a lot. It says it has 4 working positions. Not really. It's just 2 positions in portrait and landscape. Neither of the 2 is really functional and in the portrait mode really only works for the lowest position. In a pinch, okay. For regular use, not the greatest. I may have to find another solution. Second, you really have to work the rubberized covers for the ports. They are stiff when first used and since designed to prevent anything from getting into the ports not a swift operation to open. Maybe that will get better with time. On the other hand, the protective covers for the screen, buttons and home button work just fine and don't interfere with responsiveness. I often use a stylus and haven't seen any lag. There are those who say it's a lot of money to spend given the cost of the iPad. I will admit the price was a concern for me. I now say, given the cost of the iPad, it's not a lot of money to spend. I've had the iPad a week. It was sitting on the breakfast table when it got knocked off and dropped to the tile floor. In any other case, I can't imagine what that would have meant. In the Defender, not a problem. Worked just fine. No damage…other than re-starting my heart. If you want fashion for your cover, this isn't it. If you want peace of mind, it's worth every penny.

      Hi Sam,

We are sorry that the Defender case was a little too bulky for your comfort level. Perhaps our Symmetry or Profile case would be a better fit as they are both slimmer than the Defender. Check out the links below for more information on those OtterBox cases.

Best Protective Case for iPad Air 2 Avaiable

I also have the OtterBox Defender for my company iPad 4 which my airline issued to all of its pilots in 2013. Many years of research went into choosing the Otterbox Defender series to protect our iPads for rigorous cockpit use. It has been an excellent choice! This is why the choice of the OtterBox Defender for my new personal iPad Air 2 was very easy for me to make. Like its predecessor, the well designed built in screen protector was its key feature. Most cases on the market do not even have them leaving the touch screen vulnerable to damage. Other cases with built in screen protectors are not as well designed or have problems with the screen's touch sensing. The removable stand on the OtterBox Defender series cases also provides additional protection to the screen during transport of your device. The iPad Air 2 sports the new Touch ID fingerprint sensor which the new Defender case also compliments very well. In my opinion, this is the best case you can buy for your iPad Air 2!!!!!

I brought this case on sale, and I have to say it's not that good. The stand is useless and barely holds up the iPad, the rubber shell on the case will stretch if you remove if more than once. The cover for the charging port is poorly made, I had to cut mine some more to make the charger fit. The only good thing about this product is that it is drop proof

This product is hard to assemble to the IPad Air 2. Once assembled, it does not lend itself to ease of use for reading at the table in more than normal position (whatever that is) and terrible for reading while sitting up in bed. For a lot less, there are easier to use, more versatile products. Get them and save your money. Sending this back.

The Otterbox is the best case for the ipad Air 2. Its not to bulky and holds the Ipad snug. I got mines in the Mail today and it wasn't hard to put on at all. If you go on Amazon and see it for a cheaper price, Best buy will price match it for you. Overall the case fits well and feels sturdy. I wouldnt choose any other brand or case on any of my devices.

New iPad Air 2, new Otterbox

    Posted .

I recently replaced my iPad 2 with an iPad Air 2. I had an Otterbox on my old iPad 2 as I do on every phone I purchase. But with the light form factor of the Air 2 I wanted to find a lighter case that still protected my tech. I went through four different cases in two weeks, from Toughbook-type setups to light duty cases. Finally out of frustration I went in and picked out several cases to try in-store before I made my final exchange. Among them was old reliable, the Otterbox Defender. Despite the resilience of their basic concept, Otterbox has NOT stopped innovating. The Defender for the Air 2 is considerably thinner and lighter than the old school case for the iPad 2. It actually adds less bulk than the Versaview case I reviewed elsewhere. Protection-wise is has all the classic Otterbox features: tight-fitting plastic shell with a glove-like silicone shell. There is plenty of bezel to protect the front screen in case of drops, and the shell provides a nice gritty grip to prevent accidental drops. All the ports are sealed up tight. You just know your device is nice and secure. But more importantly for my current usage, this case does NOT add the kind of bulk that the older Otterboxes did. I can easily carry this case in one hand and navigate in the other. The usual downside of the Otterbox is still present: the built-in plastic screen cover. The Invisible Shield I always install makes this unnecessary, and I find it affects the responsiveness of the touchscreen. I will probably just pop it out as I always have in the past. Bottom line: don't shy away from the new Otterbox. It is a different beast with everything you loved about the old models and many, many improvements to fix old issues. I am very impressed and I believe my search is over.

      Hi Roy,

We’re sorry that the Defender case is a tad too bulky for your comfort level and that the screen protector is interfering with the touchscreen sensitivity.

Although the case does not actually quadruple the weight, it will add a bit to the ounce count. Perhaps our Symmetry Series Folio case would be a better fit as it is slimmer than the Defender. Check out the link below for more information on that OtterBox case.

I love the solid protection that the Otterbox Defender gives for my iPad Air 2 . The only drawback is the weight, but the protection for my tablet out weighs the weight. Also I wish there was a ways to get rid of the oily residue when putting the screen on my tablet so it doesn't look like it has water spots. I will figure that out,. I would recomend this product to friends if they are looking to have solid protection from accidental drops which can happen

i almost didn't purchase because of the price. I am very happy I did buy it. I like that the cover has a built in stand. You get a screen protector, cover and case all in one. I like the hard shell case. It is a little difficult to get the rubber casing off the hard shell, the rubber is very stiff. Taking the case apart can be a little tricky so you can put the iPad into it. BUT it is all worth the time! The iPad is totally protected!

    Best protection for an iPad!

Last month, I bought the top-of-the-line iPad Air 2 with wifi & cellular & 128 GB of RAM. . Best Buy had it on sale for $200 off. I had to take advantage of that! I spent hours on the internet watching Youtube videos & reading reviews about different iPad cases. I wanted good protection for my $800 iPad. I didn't want a folio case because it wouldn't offer protection for my iPad. About the only thing that I don't like about the case is its bulkiness. Otterbox cases are rated #1 in the US. I haven't tested the case by dropping the iPad. I also have insurance on the iPad if the Otterbox case doesn't survive a fall.
