Not as bulky as the Defender (though Defender for 6 is a lot slimmer (is that a word?) than the old 5 version). I combined it with a "Glass" screen protector and the wife is happy and safe.

It's slim enough that it's still comfortable in my pocket but sturdy enough that I don't worry about it if I happen to drop my phone.

I can't remember if the old versions had the plastic insert, but I always found those useless and preferred something else anyways. They got rid of the plastic insert!

Great back protection

Yet, in my experience my phone fell on its screen and shattered all completely! Sure I was under warranty and apple repaired it for cheaper than anyone else I could find, but still sucks that you have to get it fixed. If you just need something to protect scratches then this would be ok, but for severe damages get a life proof case.
