This is a beautifully packaged DVD set of the first season of the Starz network show OUTLANDER. Four DVDs of the show are included plus a bonus disc with deleted scenes, director comments and other extras. Added is a two disc set of soundtrack music by Bear McCreary, as well as an engraved metal flask for your favorite Scotch whisky! All components make this a reasonable purchase despite the price of approximately $90.

    Fun Time Traveling Romance

Overall, this is a great adaptation of the novel. It's very faithful to the novel. I just didn't like some of the characters' personalities as portrayed in the show (which were different in the book). For example, Jack Randall is presented an absolute, World War II-type of psychopath, which he's not in the book. In any case, though, the actors are all splendid- they definitely make the show a joy to watch. Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have a wonderful chemistry as the leads. Tobias Menzies does a good job at playing two very different characters. The music, costumes, sets, and scenery are great. The characters and story lines are well developed. I particularly love the inclusion of the Scottish Gaelic language. Parents should be aware that this is an adult show and has suggestive and some explicit material in it. Although this is not my favorite story, the actors and creators have made this an enjoyable show to watch. Can't wait for Volume 2. Highly recommended.

I highly recommend this series! It is as good as Game of Thrones in it's own way. The plot and character development are outstanding. If you like period pieces you will love this series. The photo and description does not indicate whether a digital copy is included but I can confirm that the Complete First Season Version DOES include a UV Digital Code..

    Great series

Outlander masterfully blends fantasy (time travel) with historical fiction (the Jacobite revolt in 1743 Scotland). The series does very well in portraying mid-18th century Scotland by actually filming from a Scottish castle. Viewers should also appreciate the show producers' efforts in meticulously tracking period-appropriate dress and traditions. Discretion should be exercised for those under 18, however. The military conflict between the English and Scots brings with it some graphically violent scenes. But the series also gets into, at times, gratuitous intimate scenes. The last episode should be screened before showing it to others for an extended, non-consensual male-on-male scene.

I have loved these books for years and was so excited, but a little worried, about seeing them on screen. My worries have been put to rest. They have done a great job. Costumes, cast, locations all exceeded my expectations. I didn't think I could love these stories more, but I do after watching them on DVD. I loved the extras on the DVD as well. The back story of production is very interesting. I only wish they would come out sooner on disk. The waiting now for Season One volume TWO is excruciating. I don't have cable so I'll just have to try to be patient. I will continue to recommend the books and now the DVD's to my friends.

    Exceptional Adaptation

I usually am not a fan of movie or TV adaptations of my favorite books, because they are always lacking in detail and rarely ever accurate. Outlander however is an exceptional book to TV adaptation. The details and accuracy of the characters is outstanding and the content of the story is kept in tact throughout the series. This is one of my all time favorite book series and I was skeptical that there could ever be a movie or television show that would capture the book as well as it is written, but this TV series does exactly that. Absolutely can not wait for the second half of the season to be on DVD.

After the first eight episodes some viewers may be left scratching their head and saying "what, that's it?" But don't be quick to give up on this remarkable fantasy, sci-fi, romantic, dramatic adaptation of the book series. This is not the rabid, raw and unbridled type story as is Game of Thrones but instead a calmer, slowburn story telling with novelistic type narrative. The lavishly beautiful Scottish locations and authentic period piece details and outstanding performances make for an epic show. This blu-ray offers great video, audio and solid supllements. Highly Recomended.

First off I want to say Outlander is a good historical fiction show. With that being said, I love that it is very close to the book. The cast is amazing at the show and the best part with this blu-ray is that one of the episodes is extended. And that extended episode isn't on the DVD version that is for sure. You won't be missing out on anything if you buy this version along with the Season One Vol 1 to make your set complete.

My wife and I watched Outlander on Starzz and really enjoyed it. It is amazing just to look at with big screen production values and amazing locations. The story is very good. It's more than the romance. You've got political intrigue and one of the nastist villains ever and very hot love scenes. I have a friend who won't check it out because it sounds romance novel. It's like when Walking Dead came out I thought who needs a zombie show. Boy was I wrong! If you are dismissing this as a bodice ripper you are missing some great tv and some pretty good ripping.

With Volume 2 putting the finishing touches on a remarkable season 1 for this unique and satisfying part romance-novel fantasy, part time-travel story and part wartime drama one cannot hardly wait for season 2 to unfold. The lush Scottish scenery and the smart, sexy chemistry coming to life between the lead actors only helps to immerse you in the brilliant story telling in depth character building that is going on here. The video and audio aspects are strong in this blu ray release along with solid supplements. HIGHLY Recomended!

I have never bought a series on DVD, until now. For anyone who knows me, that says a lot. The cast is superb. They are very believable in their roles. I love the story and how it enfolds. The costumes, set, performances, everything keeps you involved in the story. I didn't find myself distracted from what was going on....well, except for how vile Jack Randall is. I couldn't watch the episode that centered around him and Jamie. Menzies does an excellent job with that character. They all have done an excellent job!!

This is the second volume of Series 1 of Outlanders and as with the first is well written, acted and directed. The initial story (Volume 1) takes us from the end of WWI and picks up a young married couple who have been separated by war. Volume 2 picks up the adventure in Scotland 1700s (You have to watch Volume 1 to find out how that happens). The story itself is compelling and has an interesting twist on time and moving through time, on legend and myth and reality. Well done and would highly recommend.

I had watched season 1 a year ago, and was looking forward to watching it again with my wife, who hadn't seen it OR season 3 of Poldark. We watched episode 1 of Poldark 3, and while it was good, it didn't grab me like seasons 1 and 2. So the next night I suggested episode one of Outlander. We love Scotland and Dr. Who, so I figured this was a no-brainer for her. Major binge-out! Three episodes the first night. My wife is hooked

The production is true to the book which is so appreciated. Beautiful scope of landscape, Scottish culture and customs. Great love story and historical background. Great job of production! Rich and luscious storyline. Bought Volume 2 of First Season because the sticker price was placed over the Volume number. Had to go back to the story and get Volume 1 to see the beginning of the story. Can't wait for Season 2 to come out even though I am in Book 5 of the series.

I am so glad I purchased this series. The Outlander series is an amazing combination of history, relationships, action and romance. I really appreciated that a lot of extras were included in the set, it made watching the episodes even more interesting to me. I was very impressed by the lengths they went to create authenticity for the era...amazing. I will be going back again and replaying the series from the beginning, and look forward to the next season of Outlander!

Outlander fans will love this series, but even if you have never heard of Outlander, this cable series is something you'll enjoy at many levels. It's not just another woman's romance tale. There is also drama, music, fighting action, sex, humor and fascinating historical detail - much of it filmed on location. All of it is sharp and smartly done. Acting is superb and so is the cinematography! Definitely worth your time.

The book has Season 1 episodes, deleted scenes and music, beautiful. There are also interchangeable pictures with a beautiful frame and finally a nice little flask you can put some scotch in to sip on while you watch the show. All these items come in a very nice box. A must have for any Outlander fan.
