Graphics improved from the original outlast game, but it's missing a lot of the tension built from the first one. Good price for the game. Game is decent with the jump scares but it can't be compared to the first game. If you like adrenaline rush from jump scares, I recommend the game.

There are plenty of reviews for the first Outlast and it's DLC, The Whistleblower, so this entry will focus on just Outlast 2. I will say that considering Outlast 2 being retailed at $29.99USD, an extra $10 for the first game and DLC on disc, ready to install, is a steal.
Outlast 2 changes the environment heavily and there are good and bad reasons for that.
Good reasons; the game is stunningly beautiful. It has AAA graphics and polish. It also has amazing Sound FX and an OST that compliments every moment in the game.
Bad reasons; the game is too linear for how open-ended a lot of sections seem. That open-endedness dramatically ruins the stealth/hiding mechanics in the first game. The barrels are almost pointless to try to hide in and they are everywhere. They're the primary hiding spots throughout the game and they are essentially useless, especially the ones full of liquid. It's best to run in almost every situation, which ruins the dread factor in moving forward that the original did so well. There are no new ways to defend yourself. I know that the concept of the game is run, hide, or die, but when an enemy blocks a doorway and you can't even push them aside, well, that's frustrating. Your character will constantly get caught up on rubble as you run aimlessly trying to figure out where to go while you got enemies on your tail so it's again pointless to bother trying to hide as it will just halt your overall progress. A lot of times I chose to get myself killed because I wasted all my batteries hiding from spot to spot trying to find the path forward. It's really easier to figure all that out just running like a headless chicken. Hence the joke, "Outlast? More like Outrun!"
There are a bunch of nightmare sequences where you're in an abandoned catholic school. This is where the game truly shines and gives you the most authentic horror experience it has to offer. There were sections that I truly trembled in fear, slowly advancing a proper linear path that felt a lot more true to the power that the original game had. Sadly, these sections are in between snacks with the course meals of the main game.
Overall, I found the game very satisfying. The tedious bits were indeed frustrating, but I well over got my fix of terror that I am happy to see the console industry continue to produce. The game is an average 5-6 hours depending on playstyle. There is an achievement/trophy for beating the game in under 4 hours, to give you a better idea on top of that. Players had a problem with the ending, but the game is meant to be confusing and there are video/forums to clear that up after you beat the game.
Closing Pro Tip: Keep the camera out as much as possible unless you're sprinting, so that you don't miss any recording events.

I’d rate this game 10/10
Great story line, this was by far the best survival horror game I have played. This was exactly what I was looking for. Great stress reliever, jump scares catch you by surprise. I’m looking forward for the next installment of Red Barrels series “Outlast”

I've been a fan of Outlast ever since I played the first game. Upon purchasing this, I've hosted several horror-game-nights at my house, and this is almost always the center of those nights. It's the kind of game that you need a big group for moral support, and to switch the controller off with, otherwise it gets quite terrifying and stressful. But this is exactly what I would want in a good horror game! Its graphics, gameplay and storyline has met and exceeded all of my expectations! 10/10 would recommend.

The game is hard but it is also fair. Stealth is essential, noise is death and your ears are just as important as your camcorder. You won't always be able to see your enemies, but you should be able to hear them approach. The game tries its best to differentiate between locations, puzzles and succeeds in doing so for the most part.

If you've played the first one and enjoyed it and haven't bought this one yet I do not know why not. This game just as the first outlast game defines the horror genre perfectly. Every second you're on edge. The wall you hug that sure; but it wont matter the enemies movement are randomized so well one of them will see you eventually I promise. Oh yeah you'll be running alot. Resident Evil compared to this wasn't difficult or scary. I love this game if horror is your thing you need to add this to your collection.

Outlast Trinity combines the fantastic original game, whistleblower DLC, and the sequel in one package. This is one of the scariest horror games to come out in the past decade and will definitely have you on the edge of your seat!

I came into this game knowing the what I was getting myself into. I've played Outlast, and loved it, but this is a whole new beast. The setting, character, and scenario are all new, but the gameplay stays the same. This is a fantastic deal, coming out at $40 ($34.07 with the gamers club membership) and is setting a pacing for quality games coming out at a cheaper price. You also get Outlast and the Whistleblower DLC. This game is a must for any survival horror fan!

This is one of the most terrifying series you will ever play. I often found myself having to pause the game in order to get my heart-rate down. The story is great, the music/sound effects is chilling, and the gameplay is exciting. For the price, the Trinity collection is a steal.
