Not too bad

The one bad thing about this unit is that there is NO digital inputs, so you can't watch you TV in 5.1 surround sound.
Now for the good news is that it does have 5.1 surround sound (DVD only), Progressive DVD, it sounds fantastic and is very easy to set up and use. Having a wireless base to hook up your two rear speakers is very nice. You don't have to run speaker cables throughout the house.
I really like the iPod dock.
There is some really nice features on this unit the only bad thing is that you can't watch TV in 5.1 and if that doesn't matter to you then I highly recommend this unit. If not being able to watch TV in 5.1 is something you can't live without then you most likely won't like this system. I'm supprised Panasonic didn't add at least one digital input. That was very short sighted on their part. Over all it has all the other features that you'ld want in a player/surround sound system.

1080P upconvert 5 disc player. Rich sound.

What sold me was the upscale 1080P player. Plays beautifully plus is a 5 disc changer. HDMI and component connectivity. Sound is rich and clear, plenty of backbone when powered up with minimal distortion. Wireless connectivity for additional room or rear speaker set up. However, not true wireless as with most similar systems. Speakers are adjoined to a power source with speaker wires side to side. Still beats running wires front to back across the room. Good multi setting for the base with sound settings to most peoples preference. Disadvantage is no opitical connection for additional component hook up for 5.1 surround sound. Not a big fan of the tall tower speakers for my use although they actually produce very accurate sound. Overall a nice unit with many positive features that will impress when you play dvd's in 1080P with 5.1 sound.

Mix Bag

Purchased this unit along with a 37" Samsung LCD after comparing to Sony & Samsung HTIB in same price range. Not too difficult to set-up. Once system is set up noticed that rear speakers are almost inaudible. Also, the rear speakers are not completely wireless. You need to wire them to their receiver which is wireless from the main receiver. The dvd image is same as that of a lowest priced RCA upconvert dvd player (this was a major disappointment to me). To give credit to this system, it is loud and you don't get distortion; however, don't expect crystal clear sound coming from all directions (speakers). Also, a plus is its Ipod dock which may come in handy to some people.
At a lower price, this would be a good buy. Ended up returning system and ended up ordering 860W Pioneer HTIB which seems to have good reviews. Will see about that?
Reasons for not liking this system: rear speakers, dvd image, not crystal clear sound.
Reasons for liking this system: Loud without distortion, looks, 5 disc dvd player.

This is the third home theater system we have had, and is the second one from Panasonic. The first we purchased was adequate, but not outstanding. The second was a Panasonic system which we used for several years until moving into our new home. The move prompted us to look for a system that wouldn't require punching holes in the wall for the rear speaker system. Our new system gives excellent sound without the usual distortion that is inherant in wireless speakers and has saved the effort of routing speaker wire through the rafters.

Best Home Theatre for my Kids

I bought this home theatre for the kids. The setup was easy, however, I find the manual to be confuse and hard to follow at time. The output options are normal, you have your jack, component, hdmi, etc. The two most useful features for me are the upconvert and the sound quality. With the help of my HP 42 LCD TV and the upconvert feature, I was able to watch a regular DVD on my HDTV without much distortion. The sound quality is outstanding for me (for the price I can afford). When putting the base into W4, the equalizer into Heavy option, and vol at 75%, you can feel your heart pounding with action movie. Overall, it is a good buy for the price.

It all worked out

I read the reviews and had concerns about the installation and the ability to play through the tv. When I first installed, with only one HDMI input, I could not figure out how to have the DVD/CD/Docking station and TV all work. I called the 800 number listed in the Panasonic manual and they were both friendly and helpful. They instructed me to connect from the audio out on the tv back through the cable digital box and operate the home theater in aux mode for the tv. Big thumbs up to the helpline and very pleased with the home theater.

Great sound for the $$$

With this sound system the saying "You get what you pay for" is on the money. Setup was easy and using it is just as easy. I loved the microphone it comes with to help setup sound. You feel like you're at the movies with the outstanding sound and bass. The ipod dock is great; it charges the ipod and plays music at the same time. The sound from the TV is excellent . The wireless speakers are fantastic. It would've sucked having to run the wires through the middle of the room. Overall this is just a first-rate system. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for awesome sound and at such an excellent price

pretty good purchase

This is a great system, I love the sound quality and the five DVD changer is great, but if you are planning on hooking up your Xbox 360 or PS3 to the surround sound you will run into trouble if you use an HDMI cord. Even with the separate adapter from Xbox for the HDMI, you will need a digital audio port to get the sound from the surround sound and this surround sound does not have a digital audio port. Other than that, i love this system.

Good buy for the money

I bought this system when I purchased my first LCD-HD TV, mostly as an upgrade from my previous Panasonic system. I was disappointed with my previous system and was a bit skeptical about getting another from Panasonic, but as soon as I set it up, I knew this was a great system.
I am a bit confused about why people are saying there are no HDMI inputs/outputs, my system has it and works perfectly on my TV. It, however, does not have any optical outputs which could be a downside for some, but not me.
The sound is great and it has an aux setting so your TV will work with the system. It gets very loud and I have yet to need to turn the volume up past 3/4ths of its capacity and even that is loud and crisp. Anyone buying a new system and looking in this price range should seriously consider this system over any other. The set-up is easy and the sound is great. The added features are hard to find anywhere (the I-Pod deck and the microphone that tunes your sound perfectly for you).
Great buy!

Wish I would've read all the specs first....

I really wish I would have read the specs VERY closely on this before bringing it home. Reading all the reviews would have helped me too (learned my lesson on that).
If all you do is watch DVDs or listen to CDs within the formats this system supports, then this will be an excellent choice for you.
If, on the other hand, you appreciate killer sound with your TV and gaming consoles, this is NOT the system for you. I will repeat, NOT the system. With only analog inputs, this system does not deliver like one might think it would.
If it would be helpful to anyone, you might consider going with a combination of a separate receiver system with a separate video player of whatever kind fits your needs. It may or may not end up being a little more expensive (depending on your choices), but it MORE than pays off. What I personally changed to was a combination of the Sony BRAVIA SS2000 system with a cost-effective, but well performing single-disc upgrade player. This combination was right about the same price as this system that I originally went with. I will give up the 5-disc convenience without a second thought. The sound is awesome on that system. I listed a full review under that product as well, if you wish to read it.
Hope all goes well for you in your search for audio/visual nirvana.

This System ROCKS!

For me this system is great. It has performed up to expectations and I have had it for a month now. The sound quality is fantastic and the semi wireless is great. I was a little disappointed when I found out that it was not a completely wireless surround sound system. But after talking to the Sales Rep I felt comfortable enough to take a chance on this system and I am happy that I did. The first DVD I played was the plane scene in Superman Returns and the sound quality was AWESOME! Now to be totally honest this system may not be for everyone but for someone who is looking for a reasonably priced surround sound system that you don't have to run wires across your living/entertainment room floor this is the system for you.

Not For HDTV Owners

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I purchased this system online with the belief that there was an HDMI input which I could run my cable box to. As soon as I set this system up I found this was not the case. I wanted a system that would control everything which if you read the specifications you would believe that would be the case…. But it is not. I was also disappointed with the sound, especially from the sub. The sub does not have its own power source which makes it weak. Also there were only a couple setting for sound control and the sound didn’t really change much with those equalizer settings. I have returned this unit back to the store, spent $30 more for a Sony which has 2 HDMI inputs and more aux/video inputs then I know what to do with. If your using an HD TV I would suggest that you find a unit that has HDMI inputs so that you can continue to enjoy the true HD experience.

first home theater system... awesome

My goal was to buy an affordable home theater system for watching movies. I did not care much about sound because I don't need insanely loud speakers. After some use, it has proven itself worthy. The set up took less than 20 minutes. The speakers are loud and the sound is clear. I love the wireless rear speakers because I don't have to worry about covering any cables running from the front to rear. The 5 disc changer is convenient. My only problem would be with the audio ports. It does not have enough ports to hook up other systems. But, changing the cables isn't a hard task, so it's no big deal. And for those of you wondering, you can hook up your game systems with this surround system.

No Digital Inputs!!!!!!!!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I was very excited about this unit. Got it with the 50” plasma and loved the sound. The video up converter doesn’t deliver on some videos like Harry Potter. So I went to hook up the Blue-Ray and there is no way to get the 5.1 surround audio from the Blue-Ray (or any other digital audio accessory) into the PT-950. It will accept left and right (2 channel) audio from the TV via analog cables. I think this is really short sighted on the part of Panasonic. I’ve already tossed the boxes so I don’t think I’ll be able to take it back. Going up to the PT-1050 will get you an optical digital audio input. Then just hope you never need to hook up two accessories such as Blue-Ray and HD-DVD players. If you ever plan on doing anything but use there built in DVD player you’d better look for something else.

Nice sound, poor connectivity

Very easy setup, easy to use. Extremely handy wireless rear satellite speakers (should honestly become a staple in more surround systems.) iPod hookup is convenient as well as XM radio option, even though I drop it long ago for Sirius.
Unfortunately, the lack of inputs is enough for me to take this system back. Its not that the fact that it lacks an HDMI input, but that it lacks any sort of digital input WHATSOEVER, so there's no chance of letting other components take advantage of the surround sound. So unless you don't mind limiting the surround sound to just the DVD player, or are content with the single analog input then I'd find another setup.

After spending thousands of dollars on my first home theater system, and a storm ruining it. I bought this as a replacement when money was tight.
I was completelysurprised at the performance of this system. No need to spend thousands to replace it. Great sound, good speakers, all this with a built in up convert DVD player, which works perfectly. System is easy to set up and use, sounds great. Perfect choice for main home theater, or second or bedroom setup.
I reccommend the Rocketfish Universal Wireless Rear Speaker Kit Model: RF-WHTIB with this unit.

Great Home Theater System!

I highly recommend purchasing this system. I'm an avid movie and video game fan and this addition has improved my almost daily experience. The sound is full, powerful and easily adjustable. The home theater comes with a variety of connectors in the back to assist in the connection of different components. The picture quality of movies is fantastic and I've even had luck playing scratched cds. Overall, this is home theater system is worth the money. I'm sure people in the adjacent apartments couldn't disagree more. :)

Let Down

Not having familiarized myself with current Home Theater System jargon prior to purchase, I thought wireless rear speakers meant wireless rear speakers, silly me. After the fact, the engineering problem of power to completely wireless speakers (assuming they don't require batteries) dawned on me. But wireless in this regard just means wires have to run to the floor to the power unit, instead of through the attic. Wireless subwoofer is nice and puts out a ton of bass. The rear satellites are terrible and almost completely inaudible. It seems to have a lot of bells and whistles I don' t really need, like the iPod dock, etc. I just expected more bang for the buck in this one. I plan to return item and try a Samsung instead.

Simply Amazing

Not much to add to the good reviews given on this system. The system is easy to set up (took more than 10 minutes) and for the price, this system is amazing. My only minor complaint would be that it could use more audio ports. I don't really mind taking 20 seconds to switch the audio cable. Besides I bought this solely for movie enjoyment, so it's outstanding. I even connected my PlayStation 3 to this system for future use.
