As a boy we got my dad a triple header for fathers day. So, I learned to use an electric shaver by watching him. (No YouTube yet). But for most of my adult life I used either shave cream of a bar and brush for lather, and the dual blade or disposable. Now that the wet/dry electric has been around I thought I'd try it.
Using shave cream did what I hoped , a clean and fast shave. But, I went back to 'lectric shave prep as it was what I was use to. Makes my beard stand up for a closer shave.
The directions state you will need to give your beard time to adjust to a new method.
I also like the wall charger and way the head comes apart so I can rinse it under the tap for cleaning. Should get a weeks worth of shaves on a charge.
Love the feel of the navy blue rubber cover and thumb grip. Pop up side trimmer works great. Blades and screen are replaceable. Easy to replace in a year or two. Sharp blades cut easier and worth the small cost.

But this in place of new blades for my expensive Braun unit. Purchasing this costs less and it works just as good and has the additional feature of wet use -- will never go back to the expensive units.

The Panasonic Arc is amazing I enjoy using it over the period of a few days. Its design is nice making it easy to hold and grip and the nice dark blue color doesn't draw too much attention, It has a very strong masculine design I'm loving. While using it has a 3 precision blade cut for extremely close up shaves giving a smooth to the touch face. The Arc can also be used in the shower so its made for Wet and Dry conditions which is a plus. Backup Blade trimmer is useful to getting the details of your shave.
Battery life is Ok was able to run this for about 18 mins straight just to test but its enough to get the job done. Its also easy to clean for reuse so no problems there. Overall its just a really solid shaving tool that you can't go wrong with. Love the product.

A basic shaver built around old technology

It’s hard to get too excited about Panasonic’s new Arc3 shaver. It is an altogether unremarkable device in terms of what it does. That is, yes it’s a wet/dry shaver and it does that OK. But not much else.
The ergonomic design feels good in the hand and rubbery sides provide good grip if you opt for a shave in the shower. As a long time user of rotary electric shavers, I found this one a bit less comfortable and less capable of navigating the contours of my face. And it seems to take more passes over he same terrain to get a clean shave. But it gets the job done. The instructions maintain it takes 30 days for your face to get used to any new shaver.
Now for the bad news. The internal specs are about 30 years out of date. The biggest shortcoming being that this shaver is built around nickel metal hydride battery technology. That was the latest thing way back in the 1990s. Not so much now, when lithium ion rules the roost in the world of rechargeable devices. But NiMH is a lot cheaper, which is why I assume it was used.
Even worse, almost everything about this shaver’s electronics are dated or scream of penny-pinching. Consider that it takes 16 HOURS to charge the thing if it is dead dead dead. Yep, that’s what the instructions say for the first time out (8 hours after that). And you have no choice but to accept those charging times since the shaver has no battery gauge to tell you the state of the charge. And the charger itself does not have a light that tells you when the shaver is fully charged. Something fairly common on even the cheapest rechargeable electronic device these days. They are cutting some serious corners here folks, not something you expect from a device this expensive.
Once you get to fully charged, you can expect about 20 minutes of run time. A week or so of shaves. When it’s new. Less when it’s not Or if you wait too long between shaves. The aforementioned NiMH batteries quickly lose charge when not in use. One of their big drawbacks.
But it gets worse. Charging can only be accomplished by plugging the entire shaver, which is pretty bulky, into the rather large charging brick. And that brick must be plugged directly into an outlet. Quite a large kludge that likely will not fit well in most bathrooms, where outlets are often in short supply.. There is no cord to the the power brick and no cord from the brick to the shaver. Not that it would do you any good if there were since the instructions say the shaver will not run while charging. That’s another bad design choice. What if your shaver suddenly goes dead? With this one, you must wait at least eight hours for it to recharge. Good thing the unshaven look is all the rage these days.
Ready for more bad news? The consumables. Yes, you are supposed to replace the foil head every year. And replace the blades after two years. Per the instructions. The only good news is that after three years, you can throw the entire thing away since the battery will be dead – per the instructions – and cannot be replaced. Leaving you with a very stylish paperweight.
Hard to recommend this one folks. There are better products for a LOT less money

This is a very good electric razor, one of the best features being that it is a wet/dry razor. This option makes shaving when and how you want to a breeze and the best part is clean-up is super easy. Just throw it under the water and it cleans out in a few seconds. This is possible due to the cutting heads being mostly straight up and down which keeps hair from getting stuck as it does in most circular razors.
The design is very functional while still having a nice look, the charger is one of the best that I have seen for a razor, it just plugs in and the razor sits right on the plug.
Overall this is a great razor and I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to get a new razor for themselves or for anyone else.

The Panasonic shaver is a good product with a few minor quibbles. The product is packed extremely well and the initial feel and appearance is excellent. This is a foil style razor and it replaced my ancient floating head shaver. The grip is rubberized and fits nicely into your palm. The unit is a wet/dry model and includes a sideburn trimmer. The product offers excellent battery life. I recently took it on vacation and was able to leave the charger at home!
Now the quibble - the charger is a single unit designed to plug into an outlet and then have the shaver plug into that in an upright position. The combination of the charger and the razor will cover both outlets of a standard two plug outlet. Why not just use the upper plug? The weight of the combined charger and shaver was too much for my outlets and would actually cause the charger to fall off the wall! Even if you used the lower outlet the amount of leverage that it takes to plug in and unplug the razor will dislodge the entire unit from the outlet.
Overall the look and feel and the reasonably good shave you get from the product would still make me recommend the shaver to friends.

I have used a traditional razor for most of my adult life and have always been happy doing so. When I got the chance to try the Panasonic ARC 3 (ES -RT17) I was pleasantly surprised by the close shave it provided. The razor fits well in your hand and has rubber grips to keep it secure in wet or dry shaving conditions. The pop up trimmers are also a nice feature, but was caught off guard by the main blades still running when in the trimmer mode.
Positives: price point, easy to clean head, rubberized grip and wet or dry use.
Negatives: charging block is kind of clumsy to use in smaller bathrooms, main blades continue to run when using trimmer, charging the unit takes longer than would have liked.
Overall: this razor does what it claims to do which is provide a nice close shave in wet/dry use and at a very reasonable price point. It would not be my first choice if buying an electric razor, but should fit the bill for many users.

Decent Overall Shaver - Awkward Charger

This shaver is a good shaver, and will do what you need it to. At $50, it's not a bad asking pricepoint for a decent shaver. It gets in real close to the skin, has an included detail trimmer for sideburns and what not, and the swivel function is welcomed as well to make shaving easier.
My only quib, like other's have stated in there reviews, is the awkward charger. You have to push the bottom of the charger which has prongs into the top of the wall charger, then plug that into the wall socket. If this is under your medicine cabinet, there is no way you will be able to open the door if you plug this in. Obviously you can very easily use a different outlet, in a hallway, kitchen, etc., but if you don't have very easily accessible outlets in your bathroom, this will get in the way.

Ergonomic shaver, not the best.

First off, when ordering the product, the description said 'Black'. When the product arrived, it is navy blue. That put it on the back foot right away. An odd color for an electric shaver, compared to the traditional blacks and silver you see.
The big clear plastic cover over the blades took a second to work out how to get it off with out breaking it the first time. It seems a little overkill, and when it did come off, it took the shaver foils with it as well. So before even powering it up, I had to put it back together.
Once put back together, the shaver is well put together and very ergonomic in your hand. It fits nicely and the material has a good grip to it, whether dry or wet. The shaver also powered up right away, so it did come with some charge in it from the factory, which is a plus.
On to the shaving. I first tried a dry shave on day old stubble. Wasn't sure what to expect, but the foils felt good on the skin, no sharpness or tugging from the foils/blades. However, it took quite some time to get a closeness I was looking for, tightening my skin helped with this, but I had to go over the same spot several times to make sure it was taken care of.
The shaver works a lot better when combined with some shaving foam. The next day I put a thin layer of shaving foam on first, to try it's wet ability and surprisingly I got a much better shave the second day using it wet, than I did the first day using it dry.
The trimmer is a little awkward to access, the button to eject it for use are a little fiddly, and it doesn't protrude from the shaver that much for accurate trimming.
After shaving, the unit comes apart easily to wash the blades and foils.
Charging the unit is a little sketchy in my opinion. The charger mounts to the wall in the electrical socket, suspended by itself. And then the shaver clicks into the holder. I wasn't keen on the strain to the electrical socket while the unit charges. However, when the charger is out of the wall socket, it sits on your countertop and holds the shaver well.
The little bag that comes with this is pretty much a throwaway, as the shaver doesn't totally fit in it! I've tried it tail first and nose first, both ways it doesn't really fit in there.
Overall, the shaver does what it's intended for, that is shave. And it seems to only do a decent job when wet/using foam. The dry shave just didn't seem up to par with other brands I have used in the past. It is very ergonomic in the hand, so the design is on point, but I came away a little disappointed in the performance.

I would consider this a budget razor, and having said that it will have several shortcomings that some people might be looking for in an electric razor.
Overall, it's quite light in the hand. The fit is comfortable and the razor performs as a new razor would be expected to, that is, quite well. The shave is very smooth although I found myself going over a few areas several times to achieve that smoothness. To be fair, that could just be that I wasn't used to shaving with it yet. It will work both wet or dry or with shave cream or gel (which I didn't try). All in all, I found the experience adequate.
The down sides of this particular razor start as soon as you need to charge it. First off the charging base that come with it is extremely limited. The razor has to be snapped into the base and the base has to be plugged into a wall outlet, so if the razor is dead, you're out of luck for a shave until it charges. Which brings up my next point, it takes forever to charge this guy. I'm talking hours and hours. Combine that with the fact that there is no indication of battery charge on the razor and the base just has a small red led (I guess it's lit if the razor is charging). Also, the charging base can only plug into an outlet in one direction, which meant for me that the razor was plugged in sideways, not vertically. It does work since the razor snaps into the base, but it looks dumb hanging there sideways.
As I said it is a wet dry razor which is nice when you want to clean it out, but I expected a nice little brush to aid with this. There is no brush included so you have hope that the water can flush out everything on its own. It does however come with a cloth sack which would be nice for traveling.
It does also have a trimmer that you slide up to use, but I found it very small and a bit ineffective and I quickly lost patience with it. For the price of this razor, it does what it needs to do, but there are absolutely no bells or whistles included with it. It's just a decent shaver and no more. I would expect that most people would want a little more especially if you're looking to upgrade your current electric razor. This would however make a fine travel razor as long as you can leave it plugged in somewhere for the day. A single charge only lasts about twenty minutes.
