I gave this 4 stars only to catch Pany's attention. It can easily be 5 stars. This is the cousin to the Oly em1.2. I dont change lenses. In my camera backpack for NICA mountain bike races the pany is for 12 to 35 zoom and video and Oly has the 40to150 f2.8. PRO: -Configurable autofocus pattern. Not on Oly -In ap priority minimum shutter speed can be set.(like Oly) -Exp comp is good. Push button and dial. (oly is direct dial) -Easy to tweek the custom settings and store. Oly is harder. -Direct access to HDR on configurable button like Oly - A lever for man, continuous and single shot focus. Good for run and gun. CONS: -Depth by Defocus contrast autofocus is good. Oly has phase detect. -No mic power. mic must have batteries. Oly supplies power. -menus can be long scrolls. Oly has menus sectioned better. -No Pany PC software for raw files. Oly does. -No dedicated Back Button Focus like Oly. Must be configured. Canon does have direct BBF. WISH LIST Apart from listed cons: -Add an extra dial or two (like Fuji). - one or two more configurable physical buttons - improve dynamic range. Stay out of the megapixel war Since I cannot edit this after submitting, I will use comments to add more to this. Bottom Line: Happy Owner

I'm coming to the Panasonic G9 as someone already bought into the micro-4/3 system, and who already owns a good selection of lenses and accessories. My previous camera was a Panasonic G85, so I had a good idea of what to expect. Fast autofocus with Depth from Defocus on Panasonic lenses, quick standard contrast detect autofocus with Olympus lenses. It's not magic, it won't focus as fast as your phase-detect Canon EOS 7D, but it's about as fast a contract-detect camera as you can get - similar to the Olympus E-M1. Huge, bright, clear viewfinder - enormous compared to the finders on the G7/G85. Decent eye relief for us glasses-wearers, and includes diopter adjustments. Multiple custom white balance settings - very handy if you're shooting an event with multiple "scenes," like a wedding ceremony or sports event with uneven lighting. Super-responsive shutter release - took some getting used to how sensitive the shutter release button is compared to other cameras I've used over the years - found myself shooting when I thought I was just focusing. Great from the perspective of "getting the shot", but requires an adjustment period. Very minimal shutter lag. Most of the other good points about this camera can be read out of the specs sheet, but in summary, it's the first micro-4/3 camera I've used that "feels" like a professional tool, rather than a really nice camera for enthusiasts.

I have been looking for a camera that has professional features yet is lightweight and the Panasonic G9 fits the bill. I've tried it with all of my Olympus lenses and they work great, as expected since they are also micro 4/3. I also purchased a Panasonic 100-300mm lens which works great with the G9. I highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a camera that handles both video and stills with ease.
